Despite a promising start, the Saint Vincent Bearcats dropped their
season opener at home to McDaniel College by a score of 38-7. The
Bearcat offense struggled throughout the day, gaining a total of just
66 yards of total offense, while McDaniels offense posted 208 yards
rushing and 407 total yards of offense. On the first series of
the game, McDaniel's defense forced a fumble by SVC running back Jairus
Marlow, but the host Bearcats responded in a big way. On
McDaniel's first possession of the contest, and third play from
scrimmage, Bearcat corner back Antoine Barber stepped in front of a Joe
Lapkowicz pass, and scampered 75 yards down the sideline for the first
SVC score of the year. Aaron Jones' extra point was good, and the
Bearcats led 7-0 just two minutes into play. After the
interception, McDaniel turned to the run game, embarking on an 11 play,
51 yard drive, all via the ground, capped off by an Eric Zwilsky plunge
from the one yard line to tie the game up at seven. On the drive,
Zwilsky ran seven times for 32 yards, while his backfield partner, TJ
Develin, accounted for 14 yards on three carries. The Bearcat
defense started the second quarter strong, forcing a McDaniel
three-and-out. On fourth down, Travis Wenrich blasted a 61-yard punt,
using a favorable bounce, to back the Bearcats up to their own 25. A
forgettable drive for SVC then followed. After a three yard run by
fullback Joe Yezovich, SVC quarterback Jordan Cleary was sacked for a
loss of 10. A five-yard false start penalty then backed the Bearcats
up to the 13, and McDaniel again sacked Cleary, forcing a fumble that
was picked up by center Kelly Knepshield on the SVC one yard line.
Punting from the shadows of the goal post, Jim Rockovich avoided a
heavy rush, quickly getting off a 22 yard punt that gave McDaniel the
ball on the Bearcat 23. Despite the favorable field position,
McDaniel was unable to gain any ground, but the Green Terror took the
lead on a 40-yard Jay Leonard field goal with seven minutes to go in
the second quarter. The two teams then failed to muster any
offense, with four straight drives ending in punts. McDaniel took over
at its own 20 yard line with just over two minutes to go, driving to
the Bearcat 13 with three seconds left on the clock. The Green Terror
then sent on its field goal unit to attempt the 18-yard field goal, but
Barber again came up big, streaking around the right side to block
Leonard's kick, sending the game into halftime with a 10-7 score in
favor of McDaniel. After the intermission, McDaniel came out of
the gates quickly, covering 60 yards in just five plays and two
minutes, with Zwiksly scoring his second touchdown of the day, from 27
yards out, to put the Green Terror up 17-7. The next Bearcat
drive started promisingly, with quarterback Jake Smith, in for an
injured Cleary, completing his first collegiate pass to Dan Blaszkowski
for eight yards. The drive then stalled, forcing another Rockovich
punt that was downed at the McDaniel 31. The Green Terror offense
then put together another impressive drive, capped by a 33 yard
touchdown pass from Lapkowicz to Saum Sami. The extra point was good,
and McDaniel went up 24-7. Marlow returned the ensuing kickoff 56
yards, to the McDaniel 36, and, thanks to a pass interference call on
the second play of the drive, the Bearcats had favorable field
position, getting a first down at the McDaniel 29. Smith then
completed a five-yard screen pass to Zach Mihalko, but the play was
nullified due to a holding penalty, setting up a second and 16. Smith
found tight end Jake Gabelt for a nine-yard gain, but was then sacked
for a loss of 10, bringing Rockovich back onto the field for his fifth
punt of the afternoon. SVC's defense forced yet another three and
out, with the Bearcat offense inheriting the ball on the 50. Mihalko
then hauled off consecutive six yard rushes, but the drive stalled when
Wenrich intercepted a Smith pass to end the third quarter. McDaniel
made it 31-7 on Lapkowicz's second touchdown pass of the day, this one
a 34-yard strike to Matt Cahill, to go up 31-7, and the Green Terror
capped off the scoring after another SVC turnover on when Zwilsky
scored his third touchdown of the day, this one from 11 yards out, to
make it 38-7. After the first quarter interception, Lapkowicz
completed his final 12 passes of the day, finishing with 199 yards and
two touchdowns. Zwilsky led the way rushing, with 111 yards, while
Sami paced both sides with four catches for 101 yards. Mihalko
led the Bearcat rushers with 40 yards on 10 carries. The SVC passing
game struggled, with Cleary, Smith, and Kevin Corona combining to
complete just six of 21 passes for 45 yards and two interceptions. Six
different receivers caught a pass for the Bearcats, paced by a fourth
quarter 15-yard reception by freshman Caleb Parson. Defensively,
SVC freshman linebacker Anthony Johnson made a fine debut, finishing
with 12 tackles, including two for a loss, and a sack. Sean Hufgrad
added 10 stops, while Barber finished with nine tackles and a pass
break up to go with his interception and blocked kick.

The Saint Vincent Bearcats overcame a 17-point deficit to win their first game since the program's return, posting a 23-22 victory over Gallaudet University on the road in Washington, DC. The Bearcat defense played well throughout the day, starting with the game's opening drive. SVC shut down the Gallaudet offense at the outset, forcing a punt. However, on the first play from scrimmage, Bearcat starting quarterback Jake Smith was intercepted by the Bison's Ty Hubbard, who returned the ball to the Bearcat three-yard-line. Two plays later, Gallaudet pushed the ball into the end zone to take a 6-0 lead after the extra point attempt failed. Later in the first quarter, Gallaudet put together a drive that appeared to stall at the Bearcat 12-yard-line. On fourth down, they attempted a pass into the end zone which fell incomplete, but a disputed pass interference call on Saint Vincent gave the Bison a first-and-goal. Again, the defense held for three plays, but Gallaudet connected on a 4-yard touchdown pass on fourth down that pushed the lead to 13-0. In the second quarter, Saint Vincent had a red zone opportunity that concluded with a 33-yard field goal by Aaron Jones that put the Bearcats on the board, 13-3. However, on the next play from scrimmage, the Bearcat defense made their only mistake of the day, giving up a 69-yard touchdown pass on a slant play that put the hosts up by a score of 20-3. Saint Vincent refused to give up, and stormed right back thanks to the legs of Jairus Marlow. On the second play of the ensuing drive, Marlow broke free for a 59-yard touchdown run. The point after kick was blocked, leaving the score at 20-9. Later in the quarter, Saint Vincent was forced to punt from deep in its own end, and the snap went over Jim Rockovich's head, through the end zone, for a Bison safety that made it 22-9. Before the quarter ended, Saint Vincent was able to make amends. Freshman quarterback Kevin Corona rushed once and completed five straight passes, the last of which was a 24-yard touchdown to Rob James that made it 22-16 at the half. The second half became a defensive battle, as neither team managed to score in the third quarter. Saint Vincent did establish the running game, as Zach Mihalko tallied 52 yards in a single drive. SVC was unable to score, after Jones' 25-yard field goal attempt was wide with six minutes remaining in the third. Things remained that way until the fourth quarter, when SVC's Dan Blaszkowski returned a punt 20 yards to the Gallaudet 42 with eleven minutes remaining. Coach Bob Colbert then called a play that caught the Gallaudet defense off guard. Quarterback Corona pitched the ball to Rob James, who ran right, stopped, and threw a strike to a wide-open Marvin Daney, who took the ball to the Bison 1-yard line, a 41-yard pickup. On the next play, Ryan Kilmer scored to tie the game at 22-22. Aaron Jones converted the extra point to give Saint Vincent their only lead of the day. The defense - which had held the Bison scoreless throughout the second half - held on the final drive and SVC picked up its first win in over 45 years in varsity competition. Corona was 9-of-15 on the day for 101 yards. Mihalko gained 85 yards on 14 carries, while Marlow netted 70 yards on seve carries. Kilmer carried the ball 10 times for 35 yards on the day. Blaszkowki had three receptions to lead the team, while James and Marc Gonzales each caught two passes. Mike Speal led the defense with 11 tackles on the day, while Alex Rowan, Sean Hufgard, Leo Hetrick and Anthony Johnson each had six. Sacks were recorded by Joe Titler, Alan Wolfe and Taofik Amokomowo. On special teams, Blaskowski returned 4 punts for 56 yards, while punter Rockovich averaged nearly 37 yards on six punts.

The Saint Vincent Bearcats fought back from a 21-point fourth
quarter deficit, but lost to Westminster on the road by a score of
31-24. Zach Mihalko gave the offense great field position for the
game's first drive with a 41-yard return on the opening kickoff.
Quarterback Kevin Corona completed a pair of passes to keep the chains
moving, then Westminster was called for pass interference that put the
ball at the 19-yard line. After losing 10 yards on the next two plays,
Corona connected with tight end Jake Gabelt in the end zone for a
29-yard score that put SVC ahead, 7-0. The defense shut down the
Titans forcing a three-and-out punt, and the offense went back to work.
After Corona completed a 7-yard pass to Rob James on first down, the
Bearcats caught the Titans off guard on second down. Corona steppd
back and threw a backward pass to Dan Blaszkowski, who then threw a
strike to Sheldon Loughner for a 35-yard completion to the Westminster
7-yard line. However, the Titan defense held, and the Bearcats were
forced to settle for a 32-yard field goal off the foot of Aaron Jones. After
both teams traded punts, Westminster began a drive late in the first
quarter that ended with a 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Kevin
Franz at the 13:02 mark of the second quarter, making it 10-7. Both
defenses played well throughout the second quarter, keeping the
offenses off the board. SVC's best opportunity ended with an
interception at the Titan's 11-yard line by Mario Camerota. With just
1:18 remaining, Westminster started a drive at their own 29, but Franz
engineered a two-minute offense that drove downfield quickly. However,
the clock did not allow Westminster a chance to get into the end zone,
and they settled for a 28-yard field goal as time expired, sending the
game into the halftime break tied, 10-10. Westminster running
back Nick McKolosky came out ready to run in the second half, churning
through the Bearcat defense for 33 yards on seven carries on the first
drive of the half, and Franz completed the near-6 minute drive with a
touchdown pass to Jordan Belosh that gave Westminster their first lead
of the game. Saint Vincent appeared poised to respond on
their first possession, as Mihalko ran for 18 yards on the first play
of the drive, and 15 more yards were tacked on to the end of the play
courtesy of a face mask penalty. However, the game turned on one play,
as Corona was sacked on third down from the Westminster 35-yard line.
The "horse collar" tackle, outlawed in the NFL but not in college
football, jarred the ball loose and Westminster recovered. On the very
next play, McKolosky broke through for a 59 yard scoring run that gave
the Titans a 14-point lead. After a Saint Vincent punt,
the hosts marched right back down the field and scored again, this time
on a 1-yard run by McKolosky that made it 31-10 with just over a minute
left in the third quarter.
It appeared as though the Titans were going to cruise to an easy
victory at that point, but the Bearcat defense once again rose to the
occasion. Freshmen Mike Nadeau came up big on two consecutve plays -
first sacking Franz for a 20-yard loss, then sacking him again for a
loss of 7 and causing a fumble, which was recovered by the Bearcats.
After SVC was unable to move the ball and turned it over on downs, the
defense took it up another notch. Titan backup quarterback Shawn
Lehocky threw a pass on second down that was intercepted by Mike Speal,
who returned it 76 yards for a Bearcat score to make it 31-16 with 4:57
remaining. The extra point attempt failed. Saint Vincent tried an
on-side kickoff, but Westminster recovered. The defense once again
stopped the Titans, but the Bearcats were forced to use all three
timeouts to stop the clock. With 3:34 left, quarterback Jake Smith and
the Bearcats started a drive that included six complete passes, the
last of which was a 14-yard touchdown pulled in by Rob James. Smith
converted the 2-point conversion on the ground, making it 31-24 with
just one minute left. However, SVC was unable to recover the on-side
kickoff attempt, and the Titans ran out the clock for the victory. Saint
Vincent (1-2) was led on the ground by Mihalko, who carried the ball 11
times for 53 yards. Mihalko also had 3 kickoff returns for 76 yards.
Smith rushed six times for 35 yards. Corona was 6-for-14 passing
for108 yards and one touchdowns, while Smith was 9-22 for 63 yards and
a score. James had 4 catches for 72 yards and 1 TD, while Rob Minjock
caught three passes for 22 yards. Dan Blaszkowski had 4 punt returns
totalling 38 yards, and was 1-1 passing for 35 yards. Defensively,
safety Josh Diamond, who replaced injured Sean Hufgard in the first
quarter, talled 13 tackles, followed by Anthony Johnson (10) and Roscoe
Barber (9). Nadeau hadtwo sacks for a total of 27 yards.

Visiting Waynesburg University came back from an early deficit to
defeat the Saint Vincent Bearcats by a score of 21-12 at Chuck Noll
Field. After both teams struggled to move the ball early, Jairus
Marlow took matters into his own hands for Saint Vincent. After a
Waynesburg punt put the Bearcats in a tough spot at their own 7-yard
line, Marlow took a handoff, picked up great blocking in front of him,
and dashed 93 yards for a touchdown, the Bearcats' longest play from
scrimmage since their return to the gridiron in 2007. Aaron Jones
added the extra point and the home team led, 7-0 with 7:44 left in the
first quarter. The SVC defense continued to hold the Yellow
Jackets throughout the rest of the quarter, but Waynesburg put together
an extended drive that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run by Billy
Becker at the start of the second quarter to tie the game. Later
in the quarter, Becker again carried the Waynesburg offense, rushing
six times in the drive, getting the ball to the 1-yard line, where
Davis Younkins plunged in for the go-ahead score that made it 14-7. In
the third quarter, Yellow Jacket QB found Ray Hightower for a 38-yard
touchdown score that made it 21-7, but SVC fought back on the ensuing
drive. Zach Mihalko carried the ball six times and threw a pass to
Marvin Daney that took the ball down to the Waynesburg 5-yard line.
The Waynesburg defense, however, stopped SVC and the Bearcats settled
for a 22-yard field goal by Jones that made it 21-10. Waynesburg's
defense continued to play well, intercepting four Bearcat passes and
registering 9 quartback sacks on the day. SVC added two points late in
the fourth quarter after stopping Waynesburg deep in their own end.
Rather than risk a blocked punt, the Yellow Jacket punter intentionally
stepped out of the end zone for a safety with 1:10 remaining. Saint
Vincent was led by Marlow's 89 yards (net) rushing on the day on five
carries. Mihalko added 31 yards on 13 carries. Jake Smith was 7-for-21 passing, for 91 yards, with Marlow making three catches for 13
yards. Jeremy Drischler caught two passes for 56 yards, while Jake Gabelt caught a pair for 22 yards.
Mihalko returned two kickoffs for 67 yards, including a 51-yard return
in the second quarter. Defensively for the Bearcats, Anthony Johnson made 10 tackles, while Roscoe Barber, Tom Quirin and Josh Diamond added 7 each.

Grove City College handed the Bearcats a 27-12 defeat in front of an overflow crowd at Chuck Noll Field on Homecoming Day. The
visiting Wolverines gained 345 yards of total offense, including 184
yards on the ground, while the GCC defense forced three Bearcat
turnovers. Grove City took a 6-0 lead on its first possesion of the game, when Brian Mercer bowled in from two yards out at the 8:43 mark. After
the teams traded scoreless possessions over the remainder of the first
stanza, SVC punter Jim Rockovich pinned the Wolverines down at their
own one-yard line with a 43 yard kick. Three plays later, Jeff Graham forced a Stephen Mercer fumble, and the Bearcats took over on the Wolverine 30. The
Bearcats then proceeded down the field to set up a first-and-goal on
the nine. However, on third down, the Wolverines' Ian Minster sacked
SVC quarterback Jake Smith for a nine-yard loss. SVC then turned to
kicker Aaron Jones on fourth down, who converted on a 26-yard field
goal to cut the Bearcat deficit in half. The score remained 6-3
until just under a minute before halftime. With the Bearcats driving,
GC's Zach Fulmer jumped in front of a Smith pass and raced 60-yards
down the sideline for the Wolverine touchdown. The extra point was
good, and the Bearcats went into the intermission trailing 13-3. Grove
City added to its lead on its first trip of the second half, with a
15-yard touchdown strike from Andrew DiDonato to Brian Mercer capping
off an eight-play, 61-yard drive that eclipsed seven minutes. The
extra point was no good, making the score 19-3. The Bearcats
answered with a long drive of their own, and a bruising seven-yard run
from Joe Yezovich gave SVC a second-and-three on the GC nine. Two
incomplete passes, along with a Bearcat holding penalty, then pushed
the ball back, and SVC faced a fourth-and-14 on the 20. Jones' number
was called again, and the sophomore made good on the longest field goal
attempt of his career - 37 yards- to make the score 19-6. Grove
City answered on its first drive of the fourth quarter, with DiDonato
finding Zach Summy in the end zone for a 21-yard strike. The two-point
conversion attempt was successful, pushing the Wolverine lead to 27-6. Dan
Blaszkowski then returned the ensuing kick to the SVC 46, and Smith
went to work, completing a 19-yard pass to Jeremy Drischler and a
10-yard shovel pass to Zach Mihalko. Smith then went deep, lofting a
pass high into the back of the end zone that was snared by Blaszkowski
in traffic for a 22-yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was no
good, and the Bearcats trailed 27-12 with nine minutes left in the
fourth quarter. The Wolverines then chewed more time off the
clock, using 11 plays to bring the ball to SVC's 18-yard line. On
fourth down, GC went for it, with DiDonato looking for the end zone.
His pass, however, was picked off by Roscoe Barber, with the touchback
giving the Bearcats the ball on the 20. SVC gave the ball right
back, however, with a third down pass from Smith intercepted by Jason
Ferguson on the SVC 32. The pick ended the Bearcat hope for a
comeback, and sealed the team's third straight defeat. Despite
the two interceptions, Smith finished with career highs of 18
completions and 146 yards. Rob Minjock was Smith's favorite target,
snaring three passes for 22 yards, while Blaszkowski and Jairus Marlow
each caught a pair of balls for 16 yards. The Bearcat running
game struggled on the day, gaining just 56 yards on 28 attempts.
Marlow led the was with 24 yards on six carries. Defensively,
linebacker Mike Speal was in on 10 tackles, while Quillian Reid and
Josh Diamond each made nine stops. In addition to his interception,
Rowan made six tackles, including two for a loss.

The Bearcats lost to a tough Thomas More College team on the road in Kentucky, 34-7. Saint
Vincent started off the game with possession of the ball and appeared
as though they would not get a first down on the drive, but a fake
punt, snapped directly to Mike Speal, resulted in a 7-yard gain that
kept the drive going. However, the Saints defense remained strong and
the Bearcats were unable to move the ball and had to punt. On the
ensuing possession, Thomas More drove 86 yards in nine plays, scoring
on a 14-yard run by Trevor Stellman. The Bearcats drove down
the field well on their second possession, but Aaron Jones' 34-yard
field goal attempt was blocked, and the momentum shifted back to the
Saints. Three plays later, Kendall Owens broke free for a 42-yard
scoring run that made it 14-0. On the next Thomas More possession,
Owens ran 38 yards for another score to make it 21-0, and Stellman's
second score later in the second quarter made it 27-0 after the extra
point attempt failed. The Thomas More offense added another big
play to start the third quarter, with Anthony Knott scampering 50 yards
for a touchdown run that made it 34-0. With 4:00 remaining in the
fourth quarter, Saint Vincent's Matt Pietrowski forced a fumble that
bounced off the turf right into the hands of Armando Fortunato, who
took it the final 10 yards into the end zone for a Bearcat touchdown.
Jones' extra point ended the scoring for the day at 34-7. Yardage
was hard to come by for the Bearcats on the afternoon, as the team
posted just 23 net yards rushing. Jairus Marlow accounting for 18
yards on five carries. Starting quarterback Jake Smith was 10-for-20
for 65 yards, while Kevin Corona went 9-12 for 71 yards, and Caleb
Gelsomino was 3-7 for 19 yards. Jake Gabelt and Dan Blaszkowki each
caught three passes. Zach Mihalko averaged over 23 yards on five
kickoff returns. Defensively, Josh Diamond had 7 tackles, while Leo
Hetrick, Evan Lucas and Roscoe Barber had 5 tackles each.

The Bearcats lost to nationally ranked Washington & Jefferson College on the road, by a score of 72-20. The
eighth-ranked Presidents scored 17 first quarter points, then extended
the lead to 24-0 early in the second before Saint Vincent's passing
game got on track. Kevin Corona completed a pass to Jeremy Drischler
for 28 yards to midfield, then halfback Jairus Marlow completed a pass
to Dan Blaszkowski for another 29 yards. Later in the drive, Corona
hit Jake Gabelt on a 19-yard touchdown strike to make it 24-7. After
two more W&J scores, SVC again went to the trick playbook, as wide
receiver Blaszkowski completed a pass to Caleb Parson for 33 yards.
After a sack cost SVC 21 yards, Corona hit Drischler for 35 yards to
set up a fourth down and one play. Corona then completed an 18-yard
pass to Phil Masciantonio to the six yard line. After a penalty moved
the ball to the three, Marlow took a handoff and completed a jump pass
to Gabelt for the touchdown that made it 38-13 at the half. The final Saint Vincent touchdown came in the fourth quarter, when Zach Mihalko returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown. The
Bearcats struggled on the ground throughout the day, posting a net of
-90 yards rushing compared to 374 for W&J. Overall, W&J had
751 yards of total offense compared to just 107 for SVC. Chris Brown,
who had one yard on one carry, was the lone Bearcat to post positive
yardage on the ground for the day. The air attack was more successful,
with Corona going 9-for-16 for 131 yards. Jeremy Drischler had two
catches for 63 yards. Caleb Parson, Dan Blaszkowski, Jake Gabelt and
Joe Yezovich each had two catches. Mihalko returned 10 kickoffs for a
total of 222 yards. Defensively, Josh Diamond led the team with 9 tackles, while Roscoe Barber had 8 and Anthony Johnson had 7.5.

The Geneva College Golden Tornadoes held off a second half rally by
the Bearcats to defeat Saint Vincent 42-19 at Chuck Noll Field. After
falling behind 28-0 early in the second quarter, the Bearcats responded
by scoring 19 unanswered points to pull to within 28-19 with nine
minutes left in the fourth quarter. Geneva, however, put the game away
with two touchdowns over the final 5:25 of regulation. Geneva
came rolling out of the gates, with quarterback David Girardi and
running back Matt Barge each scoring on five-yard to go up 14-0 just
seven minutes into the opening quarter. When SVC's third drive of
the game stalled, Jim Rockovich's punt pinned the Golden Tornadoes back
at their own one-yard line. Geneva then put together a seven play,
99-yard drive, capped off with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Girardi to
Brian Dvorsak to make the score 21-0. It was Dvorsak's second big play
on the series, as he caught a 54-yard strike on the drive's first play.
Geneva's defense then came up with a big play, resulting it the
team's fourth touchdown. With the Bearcats driving inside the Geneva
10, SVC quarterback Jordan Cleary lost the ball while dropping back.
The fumble was recovered by Aaron Tommelleo at the 20, and he scampered
80 yards to pay dirt. The Bearcats finally got on the board in
the closing minutes of the half, when running back Jairus Marlow
scampered into the end zone from six yards out. Aaron Jones' extra
point was good, and the game went into halftime with Geneva leading
28-7. The Bearcats came out of the intermission inspired, using
the running game to briskly advance down the field on the first drive
of the half. SVC converted on three fourth down plays to keep the
drive alive, before a Cleary pass to Jake Gabelt set up a
first-and-goal from four yards out. Cleary then flipped a pass to Joe
Yezovich for the sophomore fullback's first career touchdown. The
drive spanned 65 yards in 17 plays, and took 7:19 off the clock, with
tailback Zach Mihalko running eight times for 35 yards. SVC's
defense then went to work, first forcing a Geneva punt before holding
on fourth down on Geneva's first trip of the fourth quarter, when
safety Josh Diamond stopped tight end Adam Chatlos for a two yard gain
on fourth-and-six. The Bearcats scored their third touchdown of
the day four plays later, when quarterback Kevin Corona found Marlow on
a screen pass, and the freshman sprinted 60 yards into the end zone.
The extra point was blocked, and the Bearcats found themselves down
just 28-19. Trying to cash in on the momentum, the Bearcats
attempted an on-side kick. They seemed to catch Geneva off guard, but
the kick went out of bounds untouched at the SVC 38. Geneva cashed in on the short field, going up 35-19 six plays later on a six yard touchdown pass from Girardi to Barge. On
their next trip, the Bearcats again went to the ground game to chew up
yardage, with Yezovich running twice for 14 yards and Mihalko twice for
seven yards, before a pass interference call on Geneva gave SVC a first
down on the 11 yard line. Corona found Yezovich on a five-yard
toss, but Mihalko was twice stopped short of the first down marker on
both third and fourth downs, and Geneva took over on their own four. Once
again, the long field did not deter the Geneva offense, as Matt Dean
rolled off back-to-back 38-yard runs, taking the ball to the Bearcat
19. The Bearcat defense then made another big play, with
linebacker Mike Speal recovering a Girardi fumble on the 12, but Geneva
got the ball right back, and then some, when Brian Wilson intercepted a
Kevin Corona screen pass in the backfield and went seven yards
untouched into the end zone with 1:38 left in regulation. The
successful extra point closed the scoring for the day, making the score
42-19 in favor of the visitors. For the game, the Bearcats
managed 22 first downs to Geneva's 20, while SVC also won the time of
possession battle by a margin of 31:49 - 28:11. However, Geneva
outgained SVC 436-270 in total offense, and forced three costly Bearcat
turnovers. Marlow finished the day with two touchdowns and 122
all-purpose yards, gaining 62 rushing yards on 12 carries in addition
to his 60-yard touchdown grab. Mihalko gained 55 yards on 16 carries,
and Yezovich 38 yards on nine tries. Yezovich also led the SVC
receiving corps with three grabs, including his third quarter TD, while
Jeremy Drischler and Derek Wiley each caught a pair of passes. Corona
led a trio of Bearcat signal callers, completing six of 11 passes for
92 yards, with Cleary completing five passes for 42 yards. The
Golden Tornado offense was led by Barge, who gained 106 yards on 17
attempts. Girardi completed 11 of 21 passes for 204 yards and two
scores, while Adam Chatlos made five grabs for 97 yards and Dvorsak
three grabs for 88. Defensively, Diamond and Anthony Johnson each
made 10 tackles, with Johnson making 2.5 for a loss. Quillian Reid and
Alex Rowan both finished with seven stops. Terracciano had a big day for the Geneva defense, making 11 tackles, while Dan Dillman and Matt Curry each tallying seven.

The visiting Thiel Tomcats defeated the Bearcats 36-22 in SVC's 2008 home finale at Chuck Noll Field. Bearcat
quarterback Kevin Corona had a career day, completing 27 of 42 passes
for 284 yards, but SVC committed four costly turnovers, dropping their
seventh game in a row. In a fast moving first quarter, Thiel
scored the game's first points, on a 13 yard pass from quarterback
Willie Bova to running back Jeremiah Wagner, with the extra point
putting the Tomcats ahead 7-0 with just over a minute left in the
quarter. The Bearcats responded quickly, capping off their first
drive of the second quarter on an 18-yard touchdown strike from Corona
to Phil Masciantonio. The extra point failed, making the score 7-6 in
favor of Thiel with 13:18 left until halftime. SVC didn't wait
long to take the lead, as just two plays later, cornerback Roscoe
Barber stepped in front of a Bova pass and returned the interception 53
yards down the sideline and into the end zone for his second INT return
for a touchdown on the year. The SVC two-point conversion try failed,
giving the Bearcats a 12-7 advantage. The teams then traded a
pair of scoreless possessions before Thiel's John Madeline converted on
a 26-yard field goal with 5:07 left in the half, cutting the SVC lead
to 12-10. The Tomcats then utilized the no-huddle, hurry up
offense on their next possession, with Bova completing five straight
passes in a span of 36 seconds, including a 27-yard touchdown to
Brendan Taylor. The extra poing was good, and the Tomcats took a 17-12
lead into the intermission. After forcing Thiel to punt on the
opening trip of the second half, the Bearcats took over on their own 15
yardline. On the first play following the punt, SVC's Jairus Marlow
busted loose for a 68-yard run, taking the ball to the Thiel 17. The
Bearcats advanced it to the nine before settling on a 26-yard field
goal by Aaron Jones, pulling to within two at 17-15. Thiel
quickly answered back, taking a 23-15 lead on a 13-yard touchdown
strike from Bova to Taylor. On the extra point attempt, the Tomcats
lined up to take the kick, but Madeline took the snap directly and ran
into the end zone untouched, making the score 25-15 with 8:10 left in
the third quarter. On the ensuing possession, the Bearcats gave
the ball right back to Thiel on a fumble, and the Tomcats turned the
turnover into points, with Madeline hitting a 30-yard field goal to put
his squad up 28-15 with 4:27 remaining in the quarter. The
Tomcats looked as if they were about to add to their lead on their
first possession of the fourth quarter, embarking on a long drive that
set up first-and-goal on the SVC seven. The Bearcat defensive
secondary then made another big play, with safety Josh Diamond
intercepting a Bova pass on the three-yardline. As was the case
earlier in the game, a Bearcat fumble on the next play gave the ball
right back to Thiel on the seven, and Bova then scored on a four-yard
keeper. The Tomcat two-point conversion was good, and Thiel enjoyed
its largest lead of the game at 36-15. SVC answered back on a
scoring drive of its own, going 56 yards in eight plays, capped off
with a Corona toss to Sheldon Loughner, who made a leaping,
highlight-reel grab in the back of the end zone. Jones' extra point
kick was good, and SVC trailed 36-22 with six minutes remaining in
regulation. The Bearcats would get no closer, however, turning
the ball over on downs on their next possession before a Corona pass
was intercepted by Clint Walker on the final drive of the game. For
the game, SVC gained 384 yards of total offense, led by Masciantonio,
who enjoyed a breakout game by making six catches for 108 yards. Dan
Blaszkowski and Rob James each made four grabs for the Bearcats, while
Marlow led the SVC ground game with 80 yards on seven carries. Bova
turned in a strong performance for the victors, completing 23 of 40
passes for 258 yards and three scores, while running 12 times for 105
yards. Taylor caught seven passes for 87 yards. Defensively,
Diamond finished with 10 tackles to go with his interception, while
Armando Fortunato and Anthony Johnson each made eight stops. Barber
finished with five tackles and broke up three passes to go with his
interception return touchdown.

The Bethany Bison downed Saint Vincent in the "Green Game" to end the season. The final score was 44-14. Eric
Walker scored a pair of first quarter touchdowns for the Bison, first
on a 38-yard run, then on a 10-yard pass from Chad Smith, giving the
hosts a 14-0 early lead. After a Smith to Taylor McNeil 60-yard
pass made it 21-0, Saint Vincent got on the board with a 5-yard run by
Jairus Marlow that made it 21-7. However, Bethany socred just three
plays later, courtesy of an 88-yard touchdown pass from Smith to McNeil
that made it 28-7 at the half. Bethany added a defensive
touchdown early in the third quarter, as Brandon Zeman returned an
interception 39 yards for a score to make it 34-7. Later in the third,
down 44-7, SVC added a touchdown when quarterback Kevin Corona pushed
through from a yard out. The score was set up by a 59-yard run by
Marlow to the one-yard line. Marlow led the offense with 130
yards on the day on 13 carries, the most yards by a Bearcat this
season. Joe Yezovich added 38 yards on 9 carries. Jake Smith started
at QB and was 6-for-15 in the first half for 101 yards. Corona was
4-16 in the second for 35 yards. Phil Masciantonio caught three passes
for 29 yards, while Derek Wiley had a pair of catches, good for 25
yards.
