The Saint Vincent College athletic department is mourning the death of former standout football player Len Demalon. Demalon, a native of North Huntingdon, PA, died on September 29th at the age of 73. A native of Elizabeth, PA and graduate of Elizabeth High School, Demalon is a 1958 graduate of Saint Vincent, where he excelled on the gridiron. A two-way lineman, he was named to the Associated Press Little All-American team as a guard in 1957, and was chosen by the Baltimore Colts in the 1958 NFL Draft. After graduating from Saint Vincent, he remained very active in the football world, serving as head coach at Chartiers-Houston and Glassport High Schools, before being named the first head coach of North Huntingdon's St. Agnes 7th-8th grade team, where he won three championships. He also attended graduate school at Duquesne University, and worked for 30 years as a Certified Medical Representative for Sandoz/Navartis, eventually achieving the title of Senior Sales Professional. Len is survived by his wife Marie, brother Thomas, sister Shirley, four children, and 10 grandchildren. A memorial Mass was held at Immaculate Conception church in Irwin on Saturday, October 3rd.
