After a fast start, the Bearcats saw visiting Geneva charge back to earn a 32-17 win at Chuck Noll Field.

Saint Vincent roared out of the gates, opening up a 14-0 lead with nine minutes gone in the first quarter, but the Geneva defense clamped down and the Golden Tornado running game took over.

The Bearcats scored their first touchdown of the game just two minutes in, with Kevin Corona connecting with Sheldon Loughner on a 15-yard scoring strike.  Aaron Jones' extra point capped off the five-play, 54-yard drive, giving the Bearcats the early 7-0 lead.

Saint Vincent's defense earned the team's next touchdown five minutes later, when linebacker Tom Quirin stepped in front of a David Girardi pass and scampered 36 yards down the sidelines untouched for the interception return.  Jones again converted on the extra point, and SVC was up 14-0 with six minutes remaining in the opening quarter.

Geneva got on the board on its next possession, with Girardi finding Brian Wilson in the end zone on an 11-yard pass with just over a minute left in the quarter.  The extra point attempt was no good, and the score was 14-6 SVC at the close of the first quarter.

The Golden Tornado defense then forced a three-and-out on the Bearcats first possession of the second quarter, and after receiving very favorable field position after the ensuing punt, Geneva's Matt Barge found a seam and raced 30 yards for a touchdown.  The two-point conversion attempt was failed, and the Bearcat lead was shrunk to 14-12.

Both team's defenses then took over, as the teams traded scoreless possessions over the next several minutes.  With three minutes left in the quarter, the Bearcats then looked to embark on a scoring drive to close out the half, as Corona completed a trio of long passes, including a 15-yarder to Jake Gabelt, a 21-yarder to Jairus Marlow, and a 29-yarder to Marvin Daney, setting up a first-and-goal on the three with just under a minute left.

Geneva's defense held on the goaline, and Jones then came on to continue his perfect day, knocking home a 23-yard field goal to give SVC the 17-12 halftime lead.

The Golden Tornadoes took advantage of a questionable roughing-the-punter call to score the only points of the third quater, with Matt Dean ending the prolonged drive by bowling in from two yards out.  The two-point conversion attempt again failed, but Geneva took the lead, 18-17, with seven minutes remaining in the third.

After two SVC three-and-out possessions, the Golden Tornadoes ended the third quarter driving, thanks to back-to-back 24-yard rushes by Gerard Muschette setting up a first and goal from two yards out.  On the first play of the fourth quarter, Dean scored his second two-yard touchdown of the game, and the extra point kick was good, pushing the Geneva advantage to 25-17.

After another scoreless possession, the Bearcats looked to get a boost from punter Mike Winderski, as his 27-yard kick pinned the Golden Tornadoes down inside their own five.  Geneva quickly regained ground, using a 49-yard pass from Girardi to AJ Delmonico, followed by an 11-yard Muschette run and a 21-yard scamper by Barge, to set up a first-and-goal on the six.

The Bearcats then sacked Girardi on back-to-back plays, first by David Ribero and then Calvin Demillion, but the quarterback recovered to find Wilson on a fade in the back of the end zone to put the visitors ahead 32-17 with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

Saint Vincent looked to get back into the game on its next possession, and after a roughing the passer call on Geneva, the Bearcats had a first-and-10 on the Geneva 20.  The Golden Tornado defense then came up big again, forcing an SVC fumble with six minutes left to end the scoring threat and effectively put the game away.

Corona finished the day 16-28 passing for 173 yards, throwing two interceptions as well as the touchdown pass to Loughner, who led the SVC receiving corps with five catches for 69 yards.  Marlow also hauled in five grabs, gaining 41 yards, while Daney made three catches for 38 yards.

The Geneva defensive front limited the Bearcat ground game, however, holding SVC to just 40 yards rushing, 39 of which were gained by Mihalko, who also tallied 122 yards in kickoff returns.

Girardi ended the day 15-29 for 208 yards, with Delmonico gaining 92 yards on four grabs, and Wilson 49 yards on four catches.  Muschette paced the Geneva ground attack with 153 yards on 24 carries, while Barge added 79 yards on 11 attempts.  For the game, the Golden Tornadoes amassed 246 yards rushing.

Defensively, SVC's Sean Hufgard led both sides with 12 tackles, with Ribero adding nine and John Jackson and Armando Fortunato eight apiece.  Jackson, Ribero, Demillion, and Jeff Graham each finished with one quarterback sack.

Adam Rose paced the Geneva (2-0) defense with 10 tackles, including 2.5 for loss and a quarterback sack.  Marcus Costanza, Matt Curry, and Aaron Tommelleo each added six stops.

The Bearcats will now look for their first win next Saturday, in a Homecoming Day matchup with Westminster College at Chuck Noll Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm.
