4/23: SVC caps season with victory
The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team capped off a great season with a 13-8 victory at home over the University of Pittsburgh. The Bearcats finish the season with a 10-2 record.
Ian Poole, who took over as the team's leading scorer this season after an injury to his brother, Bryan, scored four goals and added three assists against Pitt. Vince Chiodo and Jeff D'Antonio each scored three goals.
Bill Leindecker (2) and Tim Maser (1) posted the other Bearcat tallies.
Assists were recorded by Leiendecker (1), Gavin Bates (2), Luke Swerdlow (2), Evan Chatauneuf (1) and Kevin Thomas (1).
4/20: SVC crushes WJU
The Saint Vincent Bearcats defeated Wheeling Jesuit University by a score of 17-8.
Ian Poole led the way on offense, scoring six goals. Tim Maser, Evan Chatauneuf and Vince Chiodo each added a pair of goals.
Single goals were scored by Bill Leiendecker, Gavin Bates, Kevin Thomas, Jeff D'Antonio and Dan Bish.
Assists were recorded by Maser (2), Leiendecker (2), Chatauneuf, Chiodo and Bates.
The Bearcats are now 9-2 on the season and will wrap up the year by hosting the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
4/16: SVC falls to D1 Bellarmine
NCAA-Division I school Bellarmine University outdueled the Saint Vincent Bearcats in Kentucky. The final score was 15-11.
Ian Poole scored six goals and added an assist for the Bearcats (8-2). Vince Chiodo scored three goals and added four assists, while Luke Swerdlow scored a goal and an assist. Other Bearcat scorers were Gavin Bates (1 goal) and Evan Chatauneuf (2 assists).
The Bearcats trailed 9-7 after a hard-fought second quarter that saw them score five goals...four of which were scored within 90 seconds to cut the margin to just one. Saint Vincent tied the game 9-9 early in the second quarter after two straight Poole scores off passes from Chiodo. The Bearcats later took an 11-10 lead, but Bellarmine soon regained control of the game.
Bellarmine (11-1) shut SVC out in the final quarter and scored the final five goals of the game to seal the victory.
4/10: SVC defeats Army JV
The Saint Vincent Bearcats redeemed themselves following yesterday's loss to Molloy with a 14-5 victory over the B-Squad of the U.S.M.A. on Sunday afternoon in New York.
Ian Poole scored three goals and added an assist, while his brother Bryan scored twice and asssisted on two other goals. Evan Chatauneuf also has two goals and two assists.
Other goal scorers for SVC were Luke Swerdlow (2), Gavin Bates (1), Bill Leiendecker (1), Jeff D'Antonio (1) and Dan Bish (1).
Pete DeSantis recorded 11 saves in the first 30 minutes, while Alden Ainsworth played the second half in goal, saving 15 shots.
Brian Geckler won five of 14 faceoffs, while Adam Sam won 3 of 7.
4/9: Molloy ends SVC win streak
The Saint Vincent Bearcat lacrosse team failed in its bid to start the season with seven straight wins, falling on the road to Molloy College (NY) by a score of 13-10.
The game was tied 6-6 at halftime, but Molloy came on strong in the second half to cruise to victory.
Vince Chiodo led the Bearcat offense with 3 goals, while Evan Chatauneuf scored twice.
3/22: Bearcats topple upstart Griffin team
The Saint Vincent Bearcats outmanned a startup program from Seton Hill University, winning 22-0.
Saint Vincent improved to 6-0 on the season.
3/16: Bearcats win by five over W&J
Washington & Jefferson freshman attacker Ed Farruggia set a new school record with eight goals, but it was not enough as Saint Vincent held off the Presidents, 19-14, in menĂs lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium. W&J also set a school record for team goals in a single game in the loss.
The Beacats (5-0) rushed out to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter and extended their advantage to 9-4 at halftime.
Saint Vincent upped its lead to 13-6 at the 11:17 mark of the third quarter after a goal by Mike Leiendecker, but W&J responded with 4 straight goals over the next four minutes to make it 13-10.
SVC answered with a five-goal stretch to claim an 18-10 advantage, but the Presidents once again rallied to bring hte margin back to four, 18-14, with 5:47 remaining. SVC's Luke Swerdlow ended the scoring with a goal at the 5:03 mark.
Vince Choido led the offense with 2 goals and 6 assists. Bryan Poole added four goals and one assist. Pete DeSantis earned the win in the cage, making 6 saves.
2/26: Bearcats end perfect road trip

Saint Vincent’s Vince Chiodo scored the game-winning goal with 1:24 remaining as the Bearcats topped host Catawba 14-13 at Shuford Stadium and Kirkland Field.
The teams battled through six ties and four lead changes and the largest lead was three goals. Bryan Poole opened with two goals in the opening 1:39 to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead. A goal by Ian Poole tallied at the 4:36 mark of the opening quarter to give SVC a 5-2 edge.
Catawba scored three straight goals to tie the game on a goal by Todd Watkins with 12:41 before the half. The Bearcats led 8-7 at the break. Catawba took its first lead on a goal by Criag Emory with 2:41 remaining in the third quarter. The Indians took an 11-9 lead early in the fourth quarter, by Saint Vincent scored three straight and retook the lead at 12-11 with 11:01 left on consecutive goals by Bart Costello. Brent Smith gave the Indians a 13-12 lead with 6:52 left, but Tim Maser tied the game at the 4:42 mark and Chiodo notched the game-winner with 1:24 left. Catawba had possession in the final minute, but failed to get the tying goal.
2/23: Bearcats improve to 3-0
The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team remained undefeated following a 13-12 victory over Wingate University in North Carolina on Wednesday.
Bart Costello and Evan Chateauneuf each scored three goals and an assist for SVC (3-0). Alden Ainsworth earned the victory in the net.
SVC trailed 5-2 early, then fought back to tie the game 5-5 at the half. The game remained close in the third quarter, before SVC opened up a three goal lead in the fourth. Wingate fought back to close the gap to one, but the Bearcats held on for the close victory.

2/20: SVC completes MI sweep
The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team completed the sweep in its two-day trip to Michigan, downing Oakland University by a score of 14-11.
Bryan Poole scored three goals and added three assists in the victory. Luke Swerdlow scored three goals for SVC, and Pete DeSantis earned the victory in goal.

2/19: Bearcats defeat University of Michigan
The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team defeated the University of Michigan (ranked #6, CCLA) on the road in the Wolverine's indoor facility. The final score was 9-8.
Ian Poole and Luke Swerdlow led the scoring with 2 goals and one assist each. Vince Chiodo added two goals. Bill Leiendecker had a goal and an assist, while Tim Master and Bryan Poole each scored once. Bart Costello added an assist.
Bryan Poole's goal was the game-winner.
Pete DeSantis recorded 13 saves and posted the victory in the net, but the entire SVC defense had a stellar night. Michigan had 12 man-up opportunities but could not defeat a determined Bearcat squad under Coach Peter Tulk.
