10/30: Lady
Bearcats' season ends with playoff loss
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcat soccer season ended on Saturday afternoon with
a playoff loss on the road at Tiffin University. The final score was
4-0.
"They played hard," said Coach Keith Harmon, "but we just weren't able to
score. It's been a good season, overall."
The loss gives SVC a final record of 10-7-1, equalling the school record for
wins in a season.
Freshman Nicole Mannella, who was unable to play against Tiffin due to an
injury, finished the season with a school record 19 goals. She also tied
the all-time record for points in a season with 47. Her twin sister, Erin,
equalled the school record for assists with 15.
Chris Basilone, a junior midfielder, became the school's all-time leader in
assists. Her eleven assists this year give her 36 in three seasons, more
than any player in the program's history.
Three seniors have concluded their SVC careers. Stephanie Hewitson, who
was injured and did not play against Tiffin, was a starter throughout the season
and played well. The team's two main defenders, Erin Urick and Tearra
Kuhn, also wrapped up their collegiate careers on Saturday. "All three
have been key contributors for us," Harmon said. "They played hard and
will all be missed."
10/26:
Griffins defeat Lady Bearcats
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcat soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision in
Greensburg against rival Seton Hill University.
The loss will force SVC into a road game this weekend in the first round of
the American Mideast Conference playoffs. SVC finishes the season with a
conference record of 5-2-1, tied for third place with Roberts Wesleyan
College.
10/23: Mount
Vernon shuts out SVC
The Lady Bearcat soccer team wrapped up the home portion of the regular
season with a 3-0 loss at the hands of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, the
first place team in the AMC South.
The non-conference loss drops the Lady Bearcats to 10-5-1 overall. MVNU
is now 14-3.
10/22: SVC
battles, falls to #9 Houghton
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats fought hard for the first 84 minutes, but an
errant deflection led to a victory by the visiting Houghton Highlanders, ranked
#9 in the nation. The final score was 2-0.
It was a defensive battle for most of the game, with the SVC defense
constantly thwarting scoring efforts by the undefeated Houghton team.
However, with six minutes remaining, an attempt by a Highlander to cross the
ball in front of the SVC net deflected off a Lady Bearcat defender into the net
for a goal. Less than one minute later, a deflated SVC squad gave up
another goal to seal the game.
Jessica Urban played well in the net for SVC but suffered the loss.
"Our entire defense played an unbelievable game," said Coach Keith Harmon.
"What can you say. They all played so well and then lost on a
deflection. There isn't much you can do about it. I'm proud of the
way we played."
10/19:
Basilone's late goal lifts SVC to victory
The Lady Bearcats recovered from a 2-1 halftime deficit to defeat Geneva in a
divisional road game on Tuesday afternoon.
Chris Basilone's goal with less than two minutes remaining broke a 3-3 tie
and gave SVC its fifth conference win.
Nicole Mannella started the scoring with a header off a corner kick from her
sister, Erin. The goal was Nicole's 19th of the season, establishing a new
Lady Bearcat recorded, eclipsing the mark of 18 set by Julie Gongaware in
2000.
In the second half, Jenna Hall tied the game at 2-2, assisted by Nicole
Mannella and Lindsay Baudoux. The assist for Mannella gave her 47 points
for the season, equalling the school record set by Gongaware in 2000.
Later, Hall returned the favor by setting up Baudoux for SVC's third
goal. Hall, who enjoyed perhaps her best game of the season, also
provided the help on Basilone's game winner.
The win guarantees a spot in the post-season for Saint
Vincent.
10/12:
Mannella equals record in 5-0 victory

school record of 47 set by Gongaware in 2000.

The tenth SVC goal was scored by senior defender Erin Urick. Urick, who
