Questions You May Have About Reading Your Email or Files
Why would we do this?
There are times, when in the process of troubleshooting or fixing
problems we find it necessary to read someone’s email or the files they
have stored on Saint Vincent servers. We may be looking for
unusually large files, infected files, or files that may be associated
with a problem on campus. That being said, it is very unlikely
this will occur to most students. We merely reserve the right to
do this, if necessary in our opinion, and want you to be aware that it
may happen.
Will Information Services change any of my information?
The only action we may take is to delete something. In those rare
instances, we would attempt to notify you in some fashion prior to
doing so. If we cannot reach you in a timely manner, we may be
forced to advise you “after the fact.”
How about your very personal information?
Well…since you have been notified that we may read your data, you
should take that into consideration as you decide where to store your
most personal information. It would be unwise to store such
things as social security numbers, credit card numbers, bank account
numbers, etc. on Saint Vincent servers or to email them to
others. If you feel you need to do this, you should seriously
consider encrypting the information so that it is not readable without
your permission.
