David Wilmes, C’96, attends conference in Philadelphia

On Saturday Jan. 7, David Wilmes, C’96, Fellow of the Saint Vincent College Center for Northern Appalachian Studies, attended a conference at the Free Library of Philadelphia hosted by the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project. The conference honored Philadelphia area veterans and all the partners of Pennsylvania for the work they have accomplished preserving the stories of our nation’s military service men and women. Saint Vincent’s Center for Northern Appalachian Studies was singled out as one of the higher education institutions that has committed itself to, and excelled at, documenting the stories of our country’s veterans. Mr. Wilmes met with Robert Patrick and Dr. James H. Billington, the Librarian of Congress, and discussed the veterans projects that the Center has developed. Both were highly impressed with the Center’s projects, including the publications, The Long Road and They Say There Was a War, and praised the Center for bridging generational gaps by incorporating the students into these programs. Mr. Wilmes and other members of the Center have been invited back to Philadelphia to interview the entire Philadelphia Chapter of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
