Graduating seniors need to file applications with Registrar by Jan. 31

Any student anticipating a May 2006 graduation should have an application on file in the Registrar’s Office. Only those who have applied by Jan. 31 will be eligible for graduation. Seniors who already have an application on file should have received a memo from the Registrar regarding graduation requirements. If you did not receive this memo or are unsure whether you have filed a graduation application, please stop by the Registrar’s Office immediately. May 2006 graduation applicants taking courses at another college or university during the Spring 2006 semester must see the Registrar immediately. This meeting is very important since instructions on having grades documented prior to graduation will be explained. Your immediate attention to this matter is strongly suggested.

Education Club provides school supplies for hurricane victims

Thanks to the efforts of the Saint Vincent Education Club, youths living in an area of Mississippi affected by hurricane Katrina have been given new school supplies. The Education Club provided backpacks, used books, notebooks, crayons, paper and markers worth about $300 for hurricane victims.

Mock trial team preparing for regional tournament at IUP

The Saint Vincent Mock Trial team is preparing to compete in a regional tournament to be held Feb. 24 and 25 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The performance at this regional competition will determine the schools which will be able to compete nationally.

Psychology Club visits Torrance State Hospital

On a visit to Torrance State Hospital, members of the Saint Vincent Psychology Club learned about the hospital and its mission, viewed a group therapy session and a life skills class, toured a building and were able to ask questions of hospital staff. During the tour which took place this fall semester, the students learned that the hospital’s patients are usually under 30 and suffering from a serious mental disorder, and that an important part of the treatment plan involves the patient’s involvement and input. Psychology Club president Stacy Eddleton said that the trip was a “very rewarding and enlightening experience,” and students had gained a greater understanding of the staff’s role within a state-run mental facility.

Student Journalism Conference to take place Jan. 26-28

Experience counts in the world of political journalism. "Covering Crises: From Terrorist Attacks to Natural Disasters" will be presented in Oklahoma City Jan. 26-28 and will show aspiring journalists what it takes to succeed. It will teach them to make valuable connections as they get to know the pros, and network with their peers.

Dickinson Law School representative to be on campus Feb. 6

Career Services, in conjunction with the McKenna School, will be hosting Barbara W. Guillaume, director of admissions at Dickinson School of Law, on Monday, Feb. 6. The agenda calls for students to arrive at 5 p.m. in the Metten Room for dinner and then listen to a presentation about the law school followed by a question-and-answer period. The program will most likely adjourn by 6:30 p.m.
