Psychology Club visits Torrance State Hospital
On a visit to Torrance State Hospital, members of the Saint Vincent Psychology Club learned about the hospital and its mission, viewed a group therapy session and a life skills class, toured a building and were able to ask questions of hospital staff. During the tour which took place this fall semester, the students learned that the hospital’s patients are usually under 30 and suffering from a serious mental disorder, and that an important part of the treatment plan involves the patient’s involvement and input. Psychology Club president Stacy Eddleton said that the trip was a “very rewarding and enlightening experience,” and students had gained a greater understanding of the staff’s role within a state-run mental facility. Students taking the tour included, in addition to Ms. Eddleton, Catie Collins, Aaron Conway, Becki Gazda, Ryan Growden, Brandi Klein, Julie Leonard, Lana Lippiello, Nicole Lodge, Mike MacConnell, Emily McDevitt, Nicole Rohrbacher, Lindsey Rose, Katie Thorwart and Leah Turner. Also accompanying the students was the Psychology Club’s academic advisor, Dr. Mark Rivardo.
