Becky Polaski received an A.J. Palumbo Reseach Grant for her senior research. She had the following to say about her research: “I recently received an A.J. Palumbo Student Research Grant to travel to the New Mexico State Records Center and Archives in Santa Fe, New Mexico to conduct research for my senior thesis. My project focuses on the development of the legend surrounding the famous outlaw, William H. Bonney, alias of Billy the Kid. I spent ten days in New Mexico in mid-May conducting research at the archives and also traveled to Fort Sumner, New Mexico to visit the supposed grave site of Billy the Kid. While in New Mexico, I was able to find a wide variety of information relating to my thesis topic, including a large amount on the Lincoln County War, which is one of the events I am focusing my thesis on. I am extremely grateful for having had the opportunity to travel to New Mexico and conduct this research.”
