This past November, the Latrobe Rotary gave a gift of $2,000 to Saint Vincent College for the Latrobe and District 7330 Rotary Scholarship Fund. This endowed scholarship fund offers a full-time Saint Vincent College student an amount from $500 to $2,000 per year, depending on the student's need in any given year. Through the additional gift of $2,000, the Financial Aid Office will be able to assist a student in meeting an urgent need for additional financial aid that has recently arisen. Without this gift, this assistance would not have been possible.
The Rotary Scholarship Fund began in 1993 with a $10,000 gift, but the fund has now grown to $12,710.47. Rebecca Miller, a senior communication major at Saint Vincent, received the scholarship during her freshman, sophomore and junior years.
Students given priority for this scholarship include graduates of Greater Latrobe, Derry
Area or Greensburg Central Catholic High School, as well as students from the following Pennsylvania counties: Westmoreland, Washington, Greene, Fayette, Somerset and Indiana. The Saint Vincent College Committee on Scholarships and Financial Aid awards this scholarship to students based on academic and/or leadership criteria.
Last summer the Latrobe Rotary also gave a gift of $7,500 to construct an observation deck behind the Gristmill, which is used by the College Environmental Education Center as an outdoor classroom.
