The Bearcat men finished in a tie for 10th in the two-day Hal Hansen
Invitational, hosted by Clarion University.
Jeff Varga was the lowest-scoring Bearcat, shooting 77-76 to finish 11th,
just six strokes back from the winner, Millersville University's Corey Gast.
Doug Mehall finished 33rd for SVC, shooting 78-81. Devin Gmitter (82-79),
Matt Bronkar (82-81) and Adam Agin (89-92) also competed for Saint Vincent.

The Bearcats finished in third place, just two shots off the lead, at the Guy
Kuhn Memorial Tournament hosted by Allegheny College.
In a fine showing, a pair of Bearcats finished the day under par, including
Jeffrey Varga and Matt Bronkar.
Varga tied for the individual lead by shooting a three-under par 69, while
Bronkar finished in third place with a one-under 71.
Doug Mehall shot a
75, Adam Agin 80, and Devin Gmitter 81.
A total of 15 teams
participated at the event.

The Bearcats took fourth place at the Westminster College Invitational held
at the New Castle Country Club.
SVC's Jeff Varga took third place overall (out of 67 golfers) with an even
par 72, while Matt Bronkar finished with an 81, Doug Mehall 82, and Devin
Gmitter 83.
As a team, SVC shot a combined 318, finishing only behind Clarion (304),
Carnegie Mellon (307), and California University of PA (315).
The individual title went to Carnegie Mellon's Alex Timmons, who finished
with a two-under 70.

Devin Gmitter and Doug Mehall finished first and second overall,
respectively, in the Washington & Jefferson Fall Invitational.
Gmitter shot 151 for 36 holes (75-76) to take first place overall, besting
Mehall by two strokes (74-79). SVC's Jeff Varga finished in a tie for third
overall, shooting 74-77 (154).
The trio led Saint Vincent to an overall first place finish as a team, with a
total of 617, three strokes better than Susquehanna University in the 10-team
event.
Matt Bronkar finished 16th overall (84-75 - 159) and Adam Agin finished 44th
(89-93 - 182).

The Bearcats played a tune up event against Brevard College at the Remington
Golf Club in Orlando, FL.
In the best 4 of 4 event, the Bearcats were edged by a score of 319-338 by
Brevard, an NAIA school located in North Carolina.
Doug Mehall led the Bearcats with a score of 79, good for second overall
individually. Jeff Varga shot an 84, Adam Agin 86, and Devin Gmitter 90.

The Bearcats opened up the 2008 regular season with a strong second-place
finish at the Waynesburg University/Presidents' Athletic Conference
Invitational.
With a team score of 320, Saint Vincent finished just two strokes behind
Washington & Jefferson, the reigning PAC champions.
Doug Mehall led the way for the Bearcats, finishing with a six-over 78, good
for second place individually. Teammate Jeff Varga finished with a 79, tying
for third place, while Matt Bronkar fired an 80 (tied-6th), Devin Gmitter 83
(tied-14th), and Adam Agin 84 (tied-16th).
Thomas More College took third place with a score of 331, Westminster and
Waynesburg each tied for fourth (341), Grove City sixth (352), Bethany seventh
(361), and Thiel eighth (389).
The Waynesburg Invitational was the second flight of the four event PAC
Conference Championship, after the Washington & Jefferson Fall Invitational
in October, at which SVC took the team title.

Behind a one-under 71 from Doug Mehall, the Bearcats finished a close second
at the 2008 Westminster Titan Invitational, held at the New Castle Country Club.
With an even-par 36 on the front nine and a one-under 35 on the back, Mehall
earned the individual championship. The Bearcats finished with a team score of
306, six shots behind team champion Carnegie Mellon.
SVC's Jeff Varga took fifth place individually with a score of 75, while Matt
Bronkar tied for seventh (77), Devin Gmitter 15th (83), and Ben Lenhart 22nd
(84). A total of 59 golfers participated.
Westminster took third place as a team, with a score of 321, followed by
Slippery Rock (327), Grove City (328), Waynesburg (332), Penn State-Behrend
(342), Edinboro (352), Bethany (355), Thiel (356), and Pitt-Greensburg
(373).

The Bearcats finished 12th among 15 teams at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Golf
Invitational in Hershey, PA.
SVC was tied for 8th with the University of Rochester and York College, at
314 after the first day of competition.
On day one, Devin Gmitter shot a one-over par 74, good for 8th overall in the
tournament. Jeff Varga and Doug Mehall are tied for 19th after shooting 77.
Matt Bronkar shot an 86 and Ben Lenhart was in the clubhouse with an 88.
The Bearcats struggled in the second day of the tournament. Varga shot a
team-best 82 on the afternoon. Gmitter had the team-low total of 158, followed
by Varga at 159, Mehall (161), Bronkar (170) and Lenhart (177). Gmitter tied
for 23rd overall among 75 golfers. Collectively, SVC had a team score of
648.
St. John Fisher College won the event with a team score of 607.

The Bearcats took the overall team title at the Carnegie Mellon University
Invitational at the Longue Vue Club in Pittsburgh.
With a team score of 298, Saint Vincent finished 10 strokes ahead of second
place Carnegie Mellon.
SVC's Jeff Varga took second place individually, with a one-over 71, one
stroke behind the leader. The Bearcats' Doug Mehall finished fourth overall,
with a three-over 73, while John Lutzka finished seventh (75), and Matt Bronkar
eleventh (79). A total of 35 golfers participated.
Following Saint Vincent and Carnegie Mellon, Davis & Elkins College took
third with a team score of 309, Westminster fourth (318), and Waynesburg fifth
(335).
The Carnegie Mellon Invitational is the first team title for the Bearcats in
the 2008 season, as SVC finished second at both Washington & Jefferson and
Waynesburg.

Saint Vincent's Jeff Varga finished second individually as the Bearcats took
seventh place at the two-day IUP Invitational at the Indiana Country Club.
Varga shot an even-par 71 on the event's first day, and a two-under 69 on the
second day to finish with a two day score of 140, two strokes under par. He was
one of only two players to finish the invitational under par, behind individual
champion Gavin Smith of IUP, who finished five under.
Doug Mehall was the second Bearcat finisher, with a two-day score of 152 (77,
75), good for 24th overall. SVC's Matt Bronkar and Adam Agin tied for 38th
place, both recording two day scores of 156, while John Luckza finished
54th.
A total of 62 golfers from 12 colleges participated. IUP took the team
title, with a cumulative score of 576, followed by West Liberty State (586),
Millersville (589), Clarion (594), Concord (595), and Duquesne (602). The
Bearcats tied for seventh with California and Allegheny, all posting cumulative
team scores of 604. West Chester, West Virginia Wesleyan, and Seton Hill
rounded out the participating teams.

The host Bearcats defeated 17 other squads at the Saint Vincent Invitational,
held at the Latrobe Country Club.
With a cumulative team score of 309, the SVC Gold squad finished two strokes
ahead of Washington & Jefferson for the team title of the largest event
in Saint Vincent history. Doug Mehall led the Bearcats individually, shooting a
40 on the front nine and a 36 on the back to finish with a 76, good for sixth
overall.
The Bearcats' Devin Gmitter shot a 77, Adam Agin and Matt Bronkar each a 78,
and Jeff Varga 82 to round out the top five SVC finishers.
Saint Vincent fielded two squads of five, as the Saint Vincent Green team
finished 11th, with a cumulative score of 339. Jon Luczka shot an 80, Adam
Yingling an 82, Ben Lenhart 86, and Jason Hammel 91.
Jared Schmader of Clarion University took the individual title, shooting an
even par 72, while Gavin Smith of IUP and Mike Grasso and Marc Fillari, both
from Washington & Jefferson, tied for second with scores of 74.
"This was a huge win and a teriffic event," said Saint Vincent head coach Dr.
Tom Cline. "We defeated a host of very strong schools, from both NCAA Division
II and III. It was a beautiful day for golf at one of the top courses around,
and I couldn't be more pleased."
It was the second team title for the Bearcats this season, as the team also
captured first at Carnegie Mellon exactly one week ago. SVC also boasts second
place finishes at invitationals hosted by Westminster and Waynesburg.
The Bearcats will now return to the course, and wrap up the 2008 season, at
the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship, to be played at the Oak Tree
Golf Club in West Middlesex next Monday and Tuesday.

The Bearcats finished second in the 2-day, Invitational portion of the PAC
Championship, and their 8-round season total was the best among 8 teams.
While the team is technically ineligible for the PAC Championship as an NCAA
provisional member, Saint Vincent had the lowest team total in the 8-round
Championship, which covered the fall and spring semesters.
SVC's 8-round team total was 2448, just five strokes ahead of Washington
& Jefferson College. Thomas More was a distant third, 95 strokes behind
W&J.
For the two-day PAC meet at Oak Tree Country Club, SVC led after the first
round with a 299, but ended up second after a team total of 302, just two
strokes behind W&J.
Jeff Varga was third overall for the 2-day Invitational, shooting 75-73
(148). Teammate Devin Gmitter was fourth, shooting 74-75 (149).
Individually, the PAC tallied individual scores as the best 6-of-8 rounds.
Gmitter finished third overall at 449, just two strokes behind the title winner,
Brad Cieslinski of W&J. Varga was fourth, at 450, while Matt Bronkar was
fifth, at 450. Other SVC golfers were Doug Mehall (10th, 461) and Adam Agin
(18th, 482). In all, 38 golfers competed.
Mehall, Gmitter, Varga and Agin (photo) were awarded PAC Coaches honors, the
equivalent of all-conference awards for provisional members.
