Mass by Fr. Cyprian premieres at Abtei St. Walburg in Bavaria

The Mass in Honor of St. Walburga, composed by the Rev. Cyprian G. Constantine, O.S.B., organist/choirmaster of the Archabbey and academic dean of the Seminary, had its European premiere at the Abtei St. Walburg, in Eichstätt, Bavaria, on Saturday, Feb. 25, the feast day of Saint Walburga.

Student uses A.J. Palumbo Grant to study antibacterial agents

Graham P. Harbison used his A.J. Palumbo Student Research Grant to help with his senior research which involved the surface antibiotic ability of a supplement called Royal Jelly and common honey such as blossom and clover honey.

Senior biology major Branden Teets will use his A.J. Palumbo Student Research Grant to present his research at the annual meeting of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology which will be held April 1-5 in San Francisco.

Special Announcements

Library announces spring break hours

On Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 the Library will be closed for spring break. From Monday, March 6 through Friday, March 10, the Library will be open 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. On Saturday, March 11, the Library will be closed, but will be open on Sunday, March 12 from 6 to 10:45 p.m. Regular hours will resume on Monday, March 13.

Phi Alpha Theta announces initiation for March 31

A formal initiation for both fall and spring initiates of Phi Alpha Theta is planned for Friday, March 31 in the Student Union Conference Room. Refreshments will be served, and initiates who wish to invite their parents or family are welcome to do so. All current members should plan to attend. Officers for next year will be elected at this meeting.

Living Green in Westmoreland County event to be held March 16

“Living Green in Westmoreland County” will take place on Thursday, March 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Science Center Amphitheatre. The program will be geared to the general public, with two workshops focused on two areas of interest to the average local homeowners. The workshops will address the question of how can we buy local, fresh foods grown sustainably, and how we can use environmentally friendly approaches to manage our yards, gardens and lawns.

Cancer Society Relay for Life kick-off event scheduled for March 18

All members of the Saint Vincent community are invited to take part in the American Cancer Society Latrobe Relay for Life 2006 kick-off event, “Lights, Camera, Take Action For A Cure,” on Saturday, March 18 at the Four Points Sheraton, Greensburg, from 7 to 11:30 p.m. The event features food, contests (including a Marilyn Monroe Look-Alike contest), give-aways, raffles, dancing and prizes. Retired Archabbot from Indiana to speak to Oblates on March 12

The Right Reverend Lambert Reilly, O.S.B., will be the guest speaker at the meeting of the Oblates of Saint Benedict affiliated with Saint Vincent Archabbey at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 12 in the Westmoreland Room of the second floor of Placid Hall at Saint Vincent College. Archabbot Lambert is the retired Archabbot of Saint Meinrad Archabbey in Indiana, the author of two books, and a well-known preacher and retreat director. He will speak on the topic “Oblates, Like Monks, Must Become Better.”
