Living Green in Westmoreland County event to be held March 16
“Living Green in Westmoreland County” will take place on Thursday, March 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Science Center Amphitheatre. The program will be geared to the general public, with two workshops focused on two areas of interest to the average local homeowners. The workshops will address the question of how can we buy local, fresh foods grown sustainably, and how we can use environmentally friendly approaches to manage our yards, gardens and lawns. Laurel Rush, from the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, will be present to talk about food. For the backyard advice, Bill Paxton, a well-known local naturalist and landscaper, will be present along with other people such as representatives from the master gardeners’ program. Students will provide information on common sense pest control and backyard storm water management. The event is sponsored by The Sierra Club’s Westmoreland Community Action Team, Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture and the Saint Vincent College Student Environmental Awareness Club. Refreshments will include locally grown and made cider, bread, jam and butter. All are invited to come and learn how to eat green and grow green! For more information or to RSVP, contact Dr. Cynthia Walter at cwalter@stvincent.edu or 724-805-2329.
