4/27-28: SVC falls in third round of tournament
After a thrilling 6-3 victory over Geneva College in the second round of the NAIA Region IX/X Tournament, the Saint Vincent Lady Bearcat season ended with a loss to Ohio Dominican University on Thursday afternoon in Ohio. The final score was 7-2.
Ellie Fayen won a singles event for the Lady Bearcats, while the doubles team of Nicole Long and Sarah Rendulic also posted a victory.
The Lady Bearcats, in just their second season since returning to the court after a 10-year hiatus, finished the year with a record of 8-10 under Coach Jim Bendel. "We've still got a lot of work to do, but I'm proud of the effort by our ladies this year," he said.
4/26: SVC opens postseason with win
Coach Jim Bendel's Lady Bearcat squad had a perfect day in the opening round of the NAIA Region IX/X Tournament in Cedarville, Ohio.
Saint Vincent swept Lyndon State (VT) by a 9-0 score.
Singles winners for SVC were Maria Buoni, Sarah Rendulic, Ashley Nord, Ashley Ogline, Nicole Long and Ellie Fayen.
In doubles the teams of Buoni/Fayen, Nord/Ogline and Rendulic/Long were all victorious.
It was the first playoff apperance for Saint Vincent since restarting the women's tennis program in the spring of 2004
4/7-4/9: SVC completes 3-day Ohio trip
The Lady Bearcats opened a three-day swing through Ohio on Thursday, April 7, losing to Walsh University by a score of 7-2.
Ashley Nord and Ellie Fayen posted singles victories for SVC.
On Friday, it was a similar result against Capital University, as the Lady Bearcats dropped a 7-2 decision.
Both victories were in doubles, credited to the teams of Maria Buoni/Ellie Fayen, and Liz Walters/Nicole Long.
On Saturday, the team of Walters and Long were repeat winners, but it was the only victory for the Lady Bearcats, as they lost to Ohio Domincan by a score of 8-1.
3/22: Fayen shines in SVC loss
The Lady Bearcats dropped a non-conference match to West Liberty State on
Wednesday afternoon. The final score was 6-3.
Ellie Fayen recorded her second straight singles victory for SVC (3-6).
The other pair of SVC wins were by default.
3/20: Griffins defeat Lady Bearcats
The Lady Bearcats fell to crosstown rival Seton Hill University by a final
score of 7-2. Both SVC victories were in singles, by Avyn Bartrug and
Ellie Fayen.
3/4: SVC defeats W&J
Coach Jim Bendel's Lady Bearcats started the day with an 8-1 victory.
Maria Buoni, Ashley Ogline, Sarah Rendulic and Nicole Long were singles winners,
while Buoni/Ellie Fayen, Ogline/Rendulic and Liz Walters/Long scored in
doubles.
3/2: Lady Bearcats show improvement vs. Cal
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats lost to California University of
Pennsylvania, but were competitive in all matches before falling, 7-2.
"We've played them twice a season the past couple of seasons," said Coach Jim
Bendel. "In the past there has been a great spirit of cooperation.
This year, there was a spirit of competitiveness. We hung with them in
every match and performed well."
Avyn Bartrug won her singles match (#5) by a score of 8-6. Ellie Fayen
(#6) was the other singles winner, posting an 8-5 victory.
2/21: SVC drops season opener
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcat tennis team started its 2005 season
with a 7-2 loss at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Match results are as
