Despite 27 points from Ian McCollough, the Bearcats were dealt their first
loss of the season at Westminster, by a score of 81-72.
B.J. McGill added 20 points while Joey Butler had 14 for the Bearcats, but
thanks to a strong shooting performance and a solid second half, the Titans
earned the win.
The Bearcats looked to be in control at the outset, as they opened up a 17-9
lead just five minutes into play. Westminster battled back to shrink the SVC
advantage to four, at 19-15, until McCollough scored four quick points to give
the visitors another eight-point lead, 23-15, with 11 minutes left until the
half.
Five minutes later, Westminster capped off a 12-3 run to take its first lead
of the game at 27-26. The teams then shared the lead three times over the next

next eight points- six from McCollough and two from Tre'sor Kalambay- to close
the Westminster lead to two at 61-59. After a Titan bucket, McGill hit a three
and McCollough followed with a jumper to put the Bearcats up 65-64 with four
minutes to play.
It was all Westminster after that, however, as the Titans scored 12
unanswered points to go up 76-65 with a minute to play. Another three from
McCollough closed the gap to 76-68, but it was as close as Saint Vincent would
get, as Westminster made five free throws over the final minute to ice the
win.
The Titan offense was clicking all night, as Westminster shot 64 percent from
the field (29-45) while hitting on seven of 14 three-point attempts. Craig
Hannon scored 25 for the victors, while teammate Ryne Murray added 21 points and

SVC increased its lead to 14 points, 45-31, on a Kalambay three at the
15-minute mark, but the Eagles posted a strong rally, outscoring the Bearcats
24-8 over the next eight minutes to take a 55-53 lead with six minutes left in
the half.
After a Jim Ewing basket gave the Bearcats a 63-59 lead with a minute left,

McCollough was quickly fouled, and hit the front end of the bonus, putting the
Bearcats ahead 64-62 with nine seconds remaining. Juniata quickly rushed the

buckets, and after two Butler free throws, SVC's lead stood at 77-74 with four
seconds remaining.
Cannon again played hero for Juniata, as he hit another buzzer-beater, this
time a three-pointer, to send the game into a second overtime.
McCollough started the second extra session by once again converting on a
three-point play, and a jumper from McGill from the corner three minutes later
put the Bearcats up 87-84 with 1:35 on the clock. A McGill free throw put SVC
up 88-85 with nine seconds left, and then Juniata's David Thompson drove the
length of the floor for a lay up to make it a one-point game once again. Butler
was then fouled on the inbounds, made both free throws, and then McCollough
intercepted Juniata's ensuing inbound pass to seal the win.
Juniata had five players score in double figures, led by 19 apiece from
Thompson and Brent Ferko. Cannon added 16, Opitz 15, and Jon Tundel 10.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Saint Vincent remained undefeated at home (9-0). The Bearcats (14-3 overall) received solid play from point guard Joey Butler, who scored 15 points, dished out 13 assists and had 5 steals. BJ McGill added 11 points, while Mike Medved scored 10, Tre'sor Kalambay tallied 9 and Jim Ewing, 8. McCollough's performance made him the 27th player in school history to reach the 1000 point plateau.

SVC went on a 15-4 run to start the second half and the game was never close from that point on. Other top scorers for SVC were Mike Medved (12), Tre'sor Kalambay (12) and Jim Ewing (10). The Saint Vincent Bearcats rolled to their eighth straight victory, defeating the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets on the road by a score of 78-61. SVC's Joey Butler had a career night, scoring 29 points, while teammate Ian McCollough added 16 and BJ McGill 14. The Bearcats' Mike Medved also had a fine night, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for the double-double. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening moments, but McCollough scored on three straight possessions to put the Bearcats up 15-11 seven minutes into play. A three-point play from Medved gave SVC a 26-23 lead with 8:30 until the intermission, and it spurred a torrid finish of the first half for the visitors.
Waynesburg scored just four points over the final 10 minutes of the first half, recording its last bucket of the half with 4:24 left, and a Butler lay up at the 3:24 mark gave SVC its first double-digit lead of the night at 35-25. The junior point guard then hit a jumper on SVC's next possession to put SVC up by 12, and he finished the half with a free throw to give the Bearcats a 38-25 halftime lead. SVC opened the second half with three-pointers from Butler and McGill and a McCollough offensive rebound put back to make the score 46-25 SVC with 17:28 left to play. Saint Vincent's lead was never less than 13 points over the final 15 minutes, and the Bearcats used a distinct size advantage to generate a number of second chances via offensive rebound down the stretch. SVC out-rebounded Waynesburg by a wide 38-18 margin for the game, and the Bearcats shot 57 percent (32-57) from the field.

The Saint Vincent Bearcats came from an 8-point deficit then held off a late charge by the visiting Geneva Golden Tornadoes to post a 66-64 victory. Freshman BJ McGill led SVC with 16 points, while Billy Bains grabbed 9 rebounds to help the Bearcats remain undefeated at home (10-0) and improve to 17-3 on the season. The game was close throughout much of the first half. Neither team held anything larger than a four-point lead. A McGill basket gave SVC a 27-25 lead with less than two minutes remaining, but three late free throws put Geneva up 28-27 at the break. An offensive rebound and putback by Tre'sor Kalambay gave SVC a 36-35 lead, but Geneva then went on a 9-point run to take a 44-36 edge. Kalambay hit a three-pointer at the 12:00 mark to start the comeback for Saint Vincnet. Bains tied the game at 47-47 with a nice follow up play on a rebound, the first of three times in the second half he trailed a play, grabbed an offensive rebound and scored. A Mike Medved basket on a pass from McGill put SVC up 55-53 with less than six minutes remaining, then an end-to-end drive by Joey Butler and another putback by Bains extended the lead to six (59-53) with four minutes to go. The Bearcats still held a six-point lead with 1:16 to go (65-59), but a long three-pointer by Bryan Hill cut the gap to three and ignited the Golden Tornadoes. A Justin Nardi drive and bucket with 32 seconds left made it a one point game, 65-64. Kalambay was fouled, and made one of two shots at the charity stripe to extend the lead to two, but Geneva had the ball with 14 seconds to work with. A missed three-pointer from the corner with seven seconds left, and a failed last second attempt secured the win for Saint Vincent. Joining McGill in double figures for the Bearcats were Butler (13) and Bains (10). Kalambay added 9 points, while Medved had 8 and McCollough 7. Butler had 7 rebounds and 5 assists as well.

The Saint Vincent Bearcats gave Coach DP Harris his 100th career coaching
win, holding off a furious charge by Bethany for a 77-76 victory on Senior Night
in the Carey Center.
It was all Saint Vincent in the early going, as the hosts scored the game's
first 11 points before Bethany scored on a free throw almost 4 1/2 minutes into
play.
The Bearcats extended the lead to 17 with less than seven minutes remaining
in the first half (29-12) thanks to a balanced attack.
Brody Jackson hit a pair of three-pointers consecutively to cut the margin to
11, then the Bison continued to wear down the Bearcats, getting as close as five
points, before SVC went into the locker room with a 36-30 halftime lead.
A Joey Butler put-back, followed by a steal and a Butler fadeaway jumper
helped SVC run the lead back to eleven (47-36) early in the second half, but
Bethany refused to quit. A banked 3-pointer by Jackson tied the game at 50-50
at the 12:45 mark, then a layup by Jonas Ankrom gave the visitors their first
lead of the night, 52-50.
Billy Bains put SVC back in front with a three-pointer that made it 58-56,
followed by an Andy Ostach trey that gave SVC a five-point lead, 61-56 with less
than 8 minutes remaining.
Bethany closed the gap once again, but another three by Bains from the corner
made it 66-60 Saint Vincent with six minutes left. Yet again, the visitor
fought back, tying the game on a Jackson layup, then going up by three on
Jackson's fifth three-pointer of the night. A jumper by Marcus Adams gave
Bethany their largest lead of the night, four points (71-67) with less than
three minutes remaining, but Mike Medved and Billy Bains both scored for SVC to
tie the game at 71-71.
With 1:20 left, Ian McCollough hit a baseline jumper to put SVC up by two,
then SVC forced a turnover with less than a minute to go. Butler was fouled on
the play, and hit one of two from the line to make it a 3-point game, 74-71. A
Tyler Morando bucket with 17 seconds left cut the gap to one, but Butler took
matters into his own hands, driving through the lane and scoring for the
Bearcats, and drawing a foul in the process. He completed the three-point play
to put SVC up by four points. Bethany hit a three-pointer with one second left,
but it was too late to have a chance at another possession, and the Bearcats
held on for the win.
McCollough led all scorers on the night with 22 points. Butler added 18 for
the Bearcats, while Bains scored 16. Medved added 8 points and a game-high 11
rebounds.

The Bearcats extended their winning streak to 11 games with an 81-77 road win
at Thiel College.
Thiel jumped out to a 7-0 lead early, then extended the lead to twelve, 21-9,
with 12 minutes left in the first half.
Saint Vincent fought back, and an alley-oop layup by Andy Ostach made it a
5-point game, 24-19. Thiel later ran the lead back to ten, 35-25, but the
visiting Beracats outscored the Tomcats 11-5 over the last six minutes to cut
the deficit to 40-36 at the half.
Billy Bains set the tone for the second half in the opening seconds, hitting
a 3-pointer that cut the gap to just one, then Mike Medved scored to put SVC up
by a point, 41-40. The teams then traded leads several times over much of the
rest of the half.
Thiel's Devon Adams put the Tomcats up by six, 66-60, with seven minutes
remaining, but SVC fought back and took the lead with less than three minutes
remaining, after Ian McCollough fed Medved in the paint for a 75-74 lead.
Joey Butler then hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to put SVC ahead
78-74, but Thiel responded with a bucket at the 1:05 mark to make it a two-point
game.
SVC failed to score on their next possession, but Bains grabbed a key rebound
to keep the ball in the Bearcats' hands. Thiel refused to foul Butler, waiting
until BJ McGill received a pass before fouling. By that time, the clock had
wound to 10 seconds.
McGill hit one of two, and Thiel senior Joe Herrmann was fouled while going
for the rebound on the second shot. He hit his first shot to make it 79-77
SVC. On his second shot, much to the surprise of everyone, Herrmann did not
attempt to score, opting to fire a hard throw at the backboard in hopes of
getting a rebound. The officials ruled that the ball did not touch the rim, and
awarded the ball to Saint Vincent. Thiel coach Tim Loomis protested the call
and received a technical foul, sending Butler to the line. Butler remained
perfect on the night, hitting his seventh and eighth free throws on the evening
to end the game 81-77.
McCollough led the Bearcats with 22 points, while Butler added 21. McGill
put in 12 and Medved scored 11. Bains had a team high 6 rebounds. As a team,
SVC only turned the ball over 8 times on the night, but caused 20 Thiel
miscues.

The Saint Vincent men won their 12th game in a row, but had to go to overtime
to defeat Washington & Jefferson on the road. The final score was
77-70.
W&J took the early lead, 2-0, but it would be the only time they would be
on top until late in the game. Joey Butler scored 10 of Saint Vincent's first
14 points, as the Bearcats opened a 14-9 lead. A pair of baskets by BJ McGill
later in the half put SVC up 26-12 with just over 8 minutes to play.
An Ian McCollough score later ran the lead to its highest point, eighteen
(38-20), before W&J closed the gap back to 15 at the half, 41-26.
W&J took control at the outset of the second half, going on a 19-6 run
over the first six minutes to cut the margin to just two, 47-45. Butler once
again pushed the Bearcat lead, scoring on a three-point play, followed by a pair
of free throws, making it 52-45.
The game then became a free throw battle, with both teams spending a lot of
time at the charity stripe. W&J closed the gap to just one,
but Butler went coast-to-coast to extend the lead to three, 55-52. At the 6:30
mark, however, W&J managed to finally take the lead, 60-59. A pair of
McCollough free throws with 5:00 left put SVC back up by one, 61-60, then
a 3-point play by Butler put the Bearcats up by four. Each team then added four
points, all at the free throw line, to make it 65-64 with 2:35 to go. A
McCollough basket put SVC up by three, but the Presidents' Albert Varacallo hit
a three-pointer with 1:27 to go to tie the game.
With 1:10 left, McCollough was fouled and hit both shots to make it a 2-point
game once again. After SVC failed to score on their next possession, W&J's
Brian Felker attempted a game-winning 3-pointer with two seconds left but
missed. However, Varacallo grabbed the rebound and scored with 0.2 seconds left,
sending the game to overtime, tied 69-69.
Neither team scored in the first two minutes of the overtime period.
McCollough hit a jumper with 2:58 to go, and after a defensive stop, Billy Bains
nailed a three-pointer with 2:06 to go, making it 74-69. The Bearcat defense
held W&J to just one point in the overtime period, pulling away to a 77-70
victory.
Saint Vincent was led by Joey Butler, who scored 25 points and had 5 steals.
Ian McCollough added 16 and Billy Bains had 13 points and 8 rebounds. Mike
MEdved added 8 points and 7 rebounds, while BJ McGill had 8 points.

The Bearcats concluded the home schedule with a 68-64 win over Grove
City College, closing the books on an undefeated season at the Carey
Center. Everything was going right for the green and gold in the
early part of the game, as the Bearcats opened up a 12-2 lead in the
game's first four minutes. Grove City then doubled SVC's output
over the next 10 minutes, outscoring the hosts 16-8 to cut the Bearcat
lead to just two, 20-18. The Bearcats got hot again, widening the
lead to eight, 26-18 with under five minutes to play in the first
half. The Wolverines, however, cut the gap to one, 28-27. BJ McGill
hit a shot in the closing seconds of the half to make it 30-27, but
Grove City sent the teams into the break tied, thanks to a 3-point
buzzer beater by Shawn Carr. With the game tied at 34-34, Grove
City went on a 9-point run, but Ian McCollough nearly singlehandedly
brought the hosts back into the game, scoring eight points in a five
minute stretch as SVC went back on top, 47-45. The Bearcats
managed to keep the lead until the 3:07 mark, when Grove City hit a
pair of free throws to go ahead by a 60-58 margin. Billy Bains
then hit his second three-pointer of the half to put SVC on top to stay
at the 2:19 mark. It became a game of free throws in the closing
minutes, and SVC went on to win by four thanks to a key steal by Butler
and a pair of free throws by McGill with 4 seconds remaining. McCollough
paced SVC with 27 points on the night, along with 8 rebounds. Bains
added 13 points and 7 rebounds, while Butler had 7 assists and 5
steals. McGill scored 9 points for the Bearcats (21-3, 12-0 at home).

The Bearcats' 13-game winning streak came to a close on the final day
of the regular season, with a 85-63 loss on the road at Thomas More
College. The Bearcats opened the game on the right foot, leading
5-2 in the early minutes. However, Thomas More went on a 12-point run
and continued to play well throughout the first half. SVC struggled
from the floor, and the Saints kept the Bearcats from getting second
chances - SVC had only one offensive rebound in the first 20 minutes. Mike
Watkins kept the Bearcats in the game with three blocked shots and as
many three-pointers, his best showing since an 18-point performance in
mid-November. Thomas More (10-15) led by as many as 14 late in
the first half, before a pair of Joey Butler free throws cut the gap to
40-26 at the break. Saint Vincent cut the gap to eight early in
the second half, but that was as close as the team would get, as the
Saints continued to pull away throughout the remainder of the game. Joey
Butler led the Bearcats with 19 points, while Watkins added 12, all
from outside the arc. BJ McGill scored 10, while Mike Medved added 7. Saint
Vincent finishes the regular season with a record of 21-4, and will
await word the first week in March regarding a potential bid to the
Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason tournament.
