The Bearcats went to double overtime before falling to nationally ranked NAIA school California Baptist, 89-85. The
teams traded baskets in the early portion of the game, with Cal Baptist
twice building a five-point lead before a Bearcat comeback. With just
under 5 minutes remaining in the first half, a Mike Watkins
three-pointer cuts the Cal lead to just one, 17-16, and ignited an
eight-point Bearcat run that was capped by a BJ McGill finger roll that
gave Saint Vincent a 21-17 lead. Saint Vincent closed the opening
20 minutes with an 18-footer by Joey Butler and a three-pointer by
Billy Bains to take a 31-23 lead into the break over Cal Baptist, a
team that until last week was ranked #1 in the nation in the NAIA's
Division I, and had lost to NCAA-1 Seton Hall University last week in
an exhibition by just 12 points. After Mike Medved set up McGill
to give Saint Vincent a 10-point advantage at the start of the second
half, Cal Baptist unleashed a 9-point run to cut the gap to just one.
With just over 15 minutes remaining, Cal took their first lead of the
half, 40-38, before Medved tied the game at 40-40. After that,
the tide turned back in favor of the Lancers, as they scored the game's
next seven points to make it 47-40 with 12:18 remaining. Saint Vincent
coach DP Harris called time out to give the Bearcats a chance to
regroup, and the team responded with a 12-0 run over the next three
minutes, including five points by McGill and four by Butler, to take a
52-47 lead. The Bearcats managed to hold the lead until the 4:42
mark, when Cal's Mark Roussin, the reigning player of the year in his
conference, hit a pair of free throws - his 5th and 6th in a
four-minute stretch - to tie the game at 60-60. Both teams
played well on defense and kept the offense from scoring over the next
two minutes, before Roussin hit another pair of free throws to give the
Lancers a 62-60 advantage with 2:42 left. The game stayed that
way until McGill scored to tie the game with 45 seconds left in
regulation. Cal missed an opportunity to score and SVC's Tre'sor
Kalambay grabbed a key rebound, then Joey Butler drew a foul with 11
seconds left and hit both shots to give Saint Vincent a 64-62 lead. Cal
Baptist missed a pair of shots with less than 5 seconds left, but
managed to grab two straight offensive boards, with the Lancers' Robert
Rose hitting a last second fadeway as the buzzer sounded to tie the
game at 64 and send it to overtime. In OT, a Medved free throw
and field goal by Kalambay gave SVC a 3-point edge with four minutes
remaining, but Cal eventually fought back and took a two-point lead,
71-69, after Medved fouled out with 1:45 on the clock. With 1:20 to
go, trailing by three, Butler nailed a three-pointer that gave SVC a
74-73 lead, but Cal took a one-point lead with 28 seconds left. Just
three seconds later, Butler drew a foul and went to the line, hitting
the second shot to tie the game at 75. The Lancers failed to convert
at the buzzer this time, sending the game to a second overtime. Cal
quickly took a six-point lead, 81-75, but the Bearcats stormed back,
with Butler tallying five straight points, then Billy Bains hit a free
throw to tie the game at 81-81 with two minutes remaining. After a
pair of Lancer free throws, McGill banked home a jumper to tie it back
up at 83. Again the Lancers responded with a score, but Bains tied it
back up with a drive with 47 seconds left. A free throw gave
Cal an 86-85 lead, and SVC could not convert the next trip down the
court, and the Bearcats were forced to foul. Again Cal hit just one of
two shots to take a two-point edge, but the Bearcats again failed to
convert. A pair of late free throws ended the scoring as the Lancers
held on for an 89-85 victory in a hard-fought game. Joey Butler
led all scorers with 33 points on the night, playing 49 of the game's
50 minutes. McGill added 19 points, while Bains, who was on the court

The lead quickly grew to 16 in the second half (60-44) after an 11-point Bearcat run, but the Titans then outscored Saint Vincent 19-8 over the next six minutes to make it a five-point game, 68-63, with just under six minutes remaining. However, the Bearcats proved to be too strong down the stretch, pulling away to a 13-point win.
Butler led the Bearcats with 28 points, while Medved added a career-high 25. BJ McGill added 13 points for Saint Vincent (15-3). Butler led the team with 7 rebounds, while Tre'sor Kalambay added 6.

Saint Vincent senior Joey Butler dished a school-record 16 assists as the Bearcats fired on all cylinders to defeat visiting Waynesburg 106-73.
Butler added a game-high 21 points, and was joined in double figures by five teammates, including Mike Medved (20 points), Billy Bains (19), Tre'sor Kalambay (12), Jordan Cleary (11), and BJ McGill (10).
The Bearcats led from the start, taking a 12-2 advantage just three minutes into play after a McGill three-pointer. Waynesburg battled back to close the gap at five, 15-9, before Medved scored six straight points in a 90-second span to push the SVC advantage to 20-9 with 13 minutes left in the half.
After Medved's tear, SVC went cold, connecting on just two field goals over the next six minutes to allow the Yellow Jackets to close the gap to two, 24-22, with seven mintues left.
A 9-2 run from SVC, starting with a Butler three and capped off with a Kalambay trey, pushed the Bearcats ahead 38-24 with two minutes left, and Butler then sent his team into the intermission in fine fashion, beating the buzzer with another long ball to put the Bearcat in front 45-31.
Kalambay and Bains got the second half off on the right foot for the hosts, with the pair each scoring five points over the first two minutes to give SVC a 55-33 advantage.
The lead hovered around 20 points for the next several minutes, before the Bearcats exploded for 10 unanswered points - six from Medved and four from Butler- in a 90 second span to go up 81-50 with seven minutes remaining.
With 1:36 left to go, Butler then entered the record books, recording his 16th helper of the night on a Joe Marzullo jumper that allowed SVC to crack the century mark, 100-66.
The assist shattered a 36-year old record set by Terry Vrabel in 1973 win over Ashland University.
In addition to his 16 assists and 21 points, Butler also posted game-highs in steals (five) and rebounds (nine), to finish one board away from his second triple-double of the year. Medved added eight boards and Kalambay seven, as SVC out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets 39-33.
For the game, SVC connected on 54 percent (37-69) from the floor, and hit on 12 of 28 attempts from long range, led by a 3-4 effort from Cleary.

The Bearcats used a big first half and held off a late Geneva rally to pick up a 102-89 road win over the Golden Tornadoes.
Saint Vincent's Tre'sor Kalambay set the tone early, scoring the first four points of the game. The lead continued to grow throughout the half, as the Bearcats shot 67% from the field. A three-minute, 13-0 run later made it 41-24. Geneva cut the gap to 20 with a 7-0 run of their own, but it was as close as they would get in the first half, as Saint Vincent took a 56-36 lead into the break.
The teams were more evenly matched in the second half, as Geneva cut the gap to twelve at the 12:45 mark (69-55), but the Bearcats managed to keep the lead between 14 and 18 points throughout much of the second half. Geneva cut the gap to just nine (94-85) with just thirty seconds left, but Saint Vincent's Maurice Hawkins hit four free throws and scored on a powerful dunk in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.

The Bearcats improved to 18-3 on the season with a 74-59 win over Bethany College on the road in West Virginia.
Saint Vincent was sharp at the outset, as BJ McGill scored the game's first five points. Another three by McGill stretched the lead to ten, 16-6, eight minutes into play.
The Bison then caught fire, outscoring SVC 19-8 over the next nine minutes to take a 25-24 advantage. A dunk by Medved and another three by McGill helped to give the Bearcats a 31-30 lead at halftime.
The game remained close through the first nine minutes of the second half, with Bethany once taking the led, 45-44, after a free throw at the 13:00 mark. However, Joey Butler, who had been kept off the scoreboard in the first half, scored nine consecutive points, followed by a Medved score that completed an 11-point run that turned a five-point lead into a 70-54 advantage with less than four minutes remaining, and Saint Vincent easily held on for the win.

In a true team effort, the Bearcats made quick work of visiting Thiel College, defeating the Tomcats 84-56 in the Carey Center.
Five SVC players scored at least 11 points- led by Joey Butler's 20 - while eight scored five or more, as the Bearcats improved to 19-3 on the season by winning their 24th consecutive home game.
Things couldn't have started much better for the Bearcats, as a Butler long ball gave SVC a 13-1 lead just four minutes into play. Thiel's first field goal of the night, with 13:43 left, temporarily halted the SVC onslaught, but the Bearcats tore off another long run, starting with a Jordan Cleary three with 13:13 to go, and capped off by the junior's second trifecta of the night three minutes later, to go ahead 27-6.
Thiel regrouped, outscoring the hosts 13-9 over the final six minutes of tha half, but the damage was done, and the Bearcats entered the intermission up 38-23.
Over the first 20 minutes, SVC limited Thiel to just six field goals on 22 attempts, as the Tomcats nearly equaled their point total from the field (12) as their output from the foul line (11). Thiel also committed nine turnovers, compared to three from the Bearcats.
SVC then used a fast-paced pressure defense to add onto its lead following the break. Butler scored a pair of buckets in the first 90 seconds- both coming after Thiel turnovers- and moments later, Mike Medved scored five points in a 10-second span to give the Bearcats a 48-24 advantage with 17 minutes left.
After Billy Bains, Mike Watkins, and Tre'sor Kalambay scored consecutive buckets to push the Bearcat lead to 62-34 at the 12-minute mark, Medved then made it a 30-point game, putting an exclamation point on the contest with an emphatic two handed dunk with 11:35 left.
Back-to-back threes from Watkins and Bains gave SVC its largest lead - 84-50 - with 4:20 left, before the Bearcats pulled back the reigns and coasted to their seventh straight victory.
Kalambay (13 points), BJ McGill (12), Medved (11), and Watkins (11) all joined Butler in double-figures on the scoresheet, while McGill added a game-high six assists and Medved paced both sides with four steals. SVC forced a total of 19 Thiel turnovers while committing just nine, and the Bearcats tallied 20 assists on 32 field goals.

The Bearcats held off a determined Washington & Jefferson squad, posting a 73-71 victory at the Carey Center. Tre'sor
Kalambay's driving basket with 1:10 remaining broke a 65-65 tie and put
Saint Vincent ahead to stay. The Presidents had one last chance to tie
in the closing seconds but could not convert, as the Bearcats improved
to 20-3 on the season and avenged a loss last month at W&J. Saint
Vincent was strong in the early going, opening an 11-4 lead after a
Kalambay bucket six minutes into play. W&J fought back to tie the
game by scoring the next seven points, and the teams continued to trade
runs throughout the rest of the half. A 6-0 run put the Bearcats ahead
22-16, and the hosts would never trail again for the rest of the half,
but could not pull away from the pesky Presidents. Saint Vincent led
by seven, 35-28, after a Joey Butler drive with 1:40 to go in the half,
but the visitors scored the final four points of the half to make it a
three-point game, 35-32, at the break. W&J continued their
strong play to start the second half, scoring the first four points and
taking a 36-35 lead just over a minute into play. Butler promptly hit a
three-pointer and the lead went back to the Bearcats, but the
Presidents kept the game close. Saint Vincent managed to open the
lead to seven after a Kalambay score with 12 minutes left, 51-44, but
again the Presidents refused to quit and kept the game close. With
6:11 left, a Mike Watkins three pointer once again ran the lead to
seven (63-56), but Washington & Jefferson scored the game's next
nine points to make it 65-63 with just 2:07 left on the clock. Mike
Medved then drew a foul, hitting both shots and tying the game at the
1:48 mark, and after the defense stopped W&J on their next trip
down the court, Kalambay drove for the key basket to give Saint Vincent
the lead, 67-65. A steal by Butler gave BJ McGill a break down
the court, and he drew an intentional foul with 44 seconds left,
hitting one shot to make it a three-point game. Saint Vincent was then
given the ball, and Butler drew a quick foul. After hitting both
shots, he gave SVC a 70-65 lead with just 43 ticks remaining. The game
then became a battle at the charity stripe, with W&J close the gap
to three, 71-68 after a pair of one-pointers by Brian Felker with 29
seconds left. Kalambay then drew a foul and hit both shots, widening
the gap to five with 27.6 seconds to go. At the 15 second mark, Josip
Lucic-Jozak scored and drew a foul, completing the 3-point play to cut
the gap to two. After SVC failed to convert at the free throw line
following a quick foul, W&J had the ball with 11 seconds left, but
could not convert, and Saint Vincent won in the Carey Center for the
25th consecutive time. Kalambay led the Bearcats with 18 points,
while Butler added 16. Medved and McGill posted 10 points each.
McGill topped the team with 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots, and Butler
added 4 steals. Felker led all scorers with 20 for W&J, while
Wahab Owolabi added 17. Lucic-Jozak had a game-high 12 rebounds, while
Owolabi added 11 for the Presidents (15-8). Saint Vincent will take to the road on Wednesday to face Grove City College at 8PM.

Saint Vincent senior Billy Bains eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career in the Bearcats' 74-62 win at Grove City College.
Bains scored 13 and was one of four Bearcat players to eclipse double-figures, as Joey Butler led the way with 23 points and Tre'sor Kalambay added 15 and Mike Watkins 10.
The Bearcats jumped out to a hot start, taking an 14-2 lead on Butler's first three of the night at the 13:20 mark. Grove City battled back, pulling to within six, 19-13, with 7:50 left, but the advantage quickly went back to 12 for SVC after a three from Watkins.
The Wolverines again fought back to close the gap at eight with two minutes remaining, but a trey from Butler preceeded a two-handed dunk from Watkins with 30 seconds left to close the half's scoring and send SVC into the break up 35-23.
Kalambay's first three of the night opened the scoring for SVC 60 seconds into the second half before Bains entered the history books, gathering his own miss under the hoop and laying it in to become the 28th player in school history - and only internationally-born player- to eclipse 1,000 points for his career.
Bains' bucket put the Bearcats up 40-25, and Grove City could never get to within single-digits. SVC enjoyed its largest lead of the night, 64-48, after two Kalambay free throws with 5:48 remaining, and SVC then coasted down the stretch to earn their ninth straight win.
The Bearcats were able to enjoy such a cushion thanks to strong free-throw shooting, as they went 13-15 from the line for the game, including a 10-12 showing over the final 20 minutes.

The Bearcats came back from a six-point deficit with less than four
minutes remaining to end the regular season with an 85-79 victory over
the visiting Thomas More Saints. Saint Vincent senior Tre'sor
Kalambay scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Bearcats in the
final regular season game of his career. He was one of four
double-digit scorers, as Joey Butler added 17 points, Mike Watkins 15,
and Billy Bains 12. Thomas More got off to a fast start, taking a
7-0 lead in the game's first 2+ minutes, but subbed their entire team
at the 17:00 mark, and Saint Vincent quickly scored four points before
the Saints starters' returned. Thomas More once again ran the lead to
five, 14-9, before once again bringing five subs into the game, and the
Bearcats again capitalized and closed the gap. A 3-point play by
Watkins gave SVC its first lead of the game, 15-14, with 11:27
remaining in the half. Kalambay's sharp shooting allowed Saint Vincent
to build the lead as high as six on two occaisons, and the Bearcats
went into the half with a 42-38 lead, with Kalambay accounting for 16
points and Watkins accounting for 8. Three minutes into the
second half, the Saints had cut the gap to just one, 48-47, but Saint
Vincent quickly rallied. A three-pointer by Watkins later made it a
7-point game, 61-54, with 12:38 left, then Kalambay fought hard for a
second chance basket that ran the lead to nine. The Saints, however,
showed why they are the top seed in the conference tournament, going on
a 10-0 run to take a 66-65 edge after a Mark Tinklenberg three pointer
at the 7:25 mark. After Billy Bains hit a shot to end the run, the
Saints promptly added another five quick points and led 71-67 with 5:20
remaining. After Kalambay scored to make it 71-69, Thomas More
scored on consecutive trips down the court to take their largest lead
of the half, six points (75-69) with just 3:40 left on the clock.
Bains then drove through the lane and scored, drawing a foul in the
process, at the 3:28 mark. The ensuing free throw make it a 75-72
game. After a Saints free throw, a putback by Medved cut the gap to
just two, setting up more heroics from Kalambay, who fought hard for a
rebound, putback score and foul that put SVC up by one with just 1:30
left. After a defensive stop, Kalambay added another driving basket
with just 43 ticks remaining that put the Bearcats ahead 79-76. After
a Bearcat foul and a Tinklenberg free throw, Kalambay drew a foul and
hit one of two shots to make it 80-77, his sixth consecutive point.
The visitors then attempted a three-pointer to tie the game with 23
seconds left, but the shot missed its mark, and Watkins grabbed the
rebound for SVC before being fouled. Watkins hit his first shot, but
his second shot caromed to the left, right into the hands of Butler,
who hit the layup to make it a six point game, 83-77, with just 12
seconds left, and the Bearcats were able to hang on for the 85-79
victory. Watkins led all rebounders in the game with 8, while
Kalambay added 7 for the Bearcats, who improved to 22-3 on the season
and won for the 26th straight time at home.
