SVC Men's Basketball
11/15 - York Tournament - Catholic

The Bearcats lost their season opener to Catholic University by a score of 70-58 in the first round of the York College Tournament.

Saint Vincent led for the game's first six minutes, but a 7-point Catholic run put the Bearcats at a six-point deficit, 13-7.   A three-pointer by Mike Watkins closed the gap to three, 15-12, with 9:05 left in the first half, but another eight-point run by Catholic opened the advantage to eleven, 23-12, with just under eight minutes remaining in the half.

Five points in the last 90 seconds by Ryan Nelson helped SVC cut the gap to just five, 34-29, but Catholic closed the half with five quick points to take a 39-29 lead into the break.

Saint Vincent started strong in the second half, with a three by Watkins, then six straight points by BJ McGill cutting the gap to just one, 39-38, with 16:50 left on the clock.  However, McGill then picked up his fourth foul and had to go to the bench, and Catholic shut down the SVC offense.  Catholic scored the game's next 16 points, and the run grew to 20-1 before Stephon Berry's jumper at the 7-minute mark tallied SVC's first field goal in nearly ten minutes, making it a 59-41 game.

The Bearcats slowly worked their way back into the game, with a three by Edmond Wright and a layup by Garrison Gross making it a 10-point game, 66-56 with just over two minutes left.  However, it was as close as the Bearcats would get, as Catholic held on for the 70-58 victory.

McGill led all scorers in the game with 25 points and added six rebounds.  Watkins also grabbed 6 boards to go along with 8 points.  Ryan Nelson tallied 7 points on the night, while both McGill and Mo Hawkins had four steals each.

11/16 - York Tournament - PSU York

The Bearcats downed Penn State-York in the second round of the White Rose City Classic hosted by York College by a score of 63-57.

Mo Hawkins scored in the game's first minute to put SVC ahead 2-0, and the team never trailed.  Saint Vincent dominated play in the early portion of the game, opening a 16-3 lead after a three-pointer by Mike Watkins, who scored 14 first half points.

PSU-York then went on a 7-point run to cut the margin to six, 16-10, and the teams continued to trade baskets until another Watkins trey put SVC ahead by nine, 32-23, with three minutes left in the first half.  The Lions then outscored SVC 7-3 over the final three minutes, and the Bearcats went into the break with just a five point advantage, 35-30.

SVC quickly opened the advantage to nine to start the second half, with Watkins scoring on a feed from Stephon Berry and a pair of BJ McGill free throws.  The Lions once again fought back, cutting the gap to just three, 43-40, with just over 14 minutes left, before McGill took control, scoring six points and helping to build the lead back to nine, 51-42.

Still, the Lions refused to go away, and after both Watkins and Berry fouled out, they tied the game at 55-55 with 3:24 remaining.  Edmond Wright then drew a foul for the Bearcats (1-1), and hit both shots to put SVC back in front by two.  The rest of the game was spent at the foul line for the Bearcats, as the team hit four more free throws to take a 61-57 edge.  The Lions had one last chance to keep the game within reach, but Hawkins came up with a blocked shot in the closing seconds, and McGill hit two more free throws to seal the win.

McGill led all scorers with 24 point, while Watkins added 16.  Garrison Gross added nine.  McGill's 8 rebounds led the team, with Watkins and Armani Fountain adding six each.

11/21 - PSU-Fayette

The Bearcats won their home opener by a score of 80-47 over visiting Penn State-Fayette.

Stephon Berry opened the game with a bucket for the Bearcats (2-1), and Fayette came back to score the next three points to take a 3-2 lead...but it would be their only lead of the game.

Behind strong play from Mike Watkins both on offense and defense, SVC went on an 11-3 run and never looked back, cruising to a 44-24 lead at the half.

The second half also belonged to the hosts, as Saint Vincent won their 27th consecutive home game.

Both teams spent plenty of time at the charity stripe, as the teams combined for 49 fouls and 73 free throw attempts.

Watkins led all scorers on the night with 23 points, while BJ McGill added 17. Both Watkins and McGill grabbed seven rebounds to lead the team.  McGill added 7 steals.

Garrison Gross added 15 points, shooting 6-for-10 from the floor.  Edmond Wright added 9 points,  4 steals and was 3-3 from the floor.  Henry Utku added 5 points.

Despite the win, the young SVC team struggled from the foul line, connecting on just 16 of 39 attempts.

PSU-Fayette was led by David Winns, who scored 12 points before fouling out in the second half.  Jonathan Eicher added 10 points and 8 boards.  The Bearcats forced 31 turnovers by the Lions.

Saint Vincent will host Penn State-Abington on Tuesday night at 8PM in the Carey Center.

11/24 - PSU-Abington

The Bearcats won their third straight game with a convincing 76-50 decision over visiting Penn State-Abington from the Philadelphia area.

Mike Watkins opened the game with a three-pointer for SVC (3-1) and the team never trailed.  Another three by Watkins later extended the lead to ten, 14-4, then a steal led to a bucket by BJ McGill that made it a 16-4 SVC advantage.

A pair of McGill three pointers helped the lead to grow to nineteen, 31-12, at the 6:30 mark of the first half, and McGill later closed the first half scoring with yet another three, part of his 17 first half points, that made it 43-18 at the break.

Saint Vincent continued to roll in the second  half, stretching the lead to as high as 31 points (60-29) before slowing the tempo late in the game.

McGill’s 17 led all scorers on the night, while Watkins added 15 points to go along with 8 rebounds.  Edmond Wright reached double figures with 11 points, while Alberto Benetti contributed 8 points and 8 boards.  McGill had six assists and six steals, tops on the team in both categories.

The Bearcats caused 23 turnovers and out-rebounded the Lions by a 40-21 margin.  The team also improved at the charity stripe, converting 14 of 19 free throws.

11/28 - PSU-Altoona

The Bearcats lost a heartbreaker in overtime on the road at Penn State-Altoona by a score of 62-59.

SVC took an early 8-4 lead after a pair of three-pointers by Mike Watkins, part of his 12 first half points.  Altoona fought back and took a 19-16 lead midway through the first half, but a trey by BJ McGill quickly tied the game.  Saint Vincent later took a 25-21 lead after Mo Hawkins converted following a steal, then extended the lead to seven, 28-21, after free throws by Alberto Benetti and McGill.

However, Altoona scored the half's final four points to make it 28-25 at the break.

Early in the second half, McGill added back-to-back scores to make it 32-27, but the Lions then took over the game, outscoring Saint Vincent 16-1 over a seven minute stretch to take a 43-33 lead.

Hawkins then hit a three to end the PSU run and start an 11-point Bearcat run, which ended with another score by Hawkins at the 8:16 mark with SVC ahead, 44-43.

The Lions took a 51-48 lead at the 3:13 mark, but Hawkins hit another three of his own to tie the game 17 seconds later.  The Bearcats hit three free throws down the stretch to take a 54-51 lead, and while both teams had opportunities, no one was able to hit a field goal until the Lions hit a three pointer with less than 5 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime, tied at 54.

SVC scored first in OT with a McGill free throw, but the Lions later took a 57-55 lead before a putback by Stephon Berry tied the game at 57 with 2:40 remaining.  At the 2:05 mark, the Lions scored to take the lead, but McGill drove through the lane and scored at the 1:40 mark to tie the game at 59.  The Lions went ahead with 1:08 to go, and SVC was unable to convert on a pair of free throw attemps in the closing minute, then could not hold possession to get another opportunity.  A late free throw made it a three point game with two seconds left, but SVC was unable to get off a final shot.

McGill led the Bearcats in points (21), rebounds (8) and steals (9).  Watkins and Hawkins added 12 points each.

12/2 - Thiel

Despite a career-high 30 point performance from junior BJ McGill, the Bearcats were unable to complete a second half comeback, falling 80-67 to Thiel College in the Carey Center.

The loss snapped the Bearcats' 28-game home winning streak, spanning to January 2007.

Both teams traded leads throughout the first 10 minutes, with SVC taking a 16-14 lead on a long field goal from BJ McGill near the midway point of the first half.  Thiel then went on a six-point run to take a four-point lead thanks to strong inside play from Matt May.

Thiel opened the lead to five, 28-23, before a steal and score by Edmond Wright cut the gap to just three, but the Tomcats closed the half with an eight-point run to take a 36-25 lead into the break.

The second half was played much more evenly, until SVC got into foul trouble.  Down 60-48, Saint Vincent hit back-to-back threes by Wright and McGill to make it a six point game, and a pair of free throws by Stephon Berry at the 6:56 mark cut the lead to just five, 61-56.

However, center Alberto Benetti fouled out just seconds later, joining Hawkins and Wright with five fouls, depleting the Bearcat bench.  With just five players remaining, SVC showed signs of being tired in the closing minutes as Thiel increased the margin to 13 at the buzzer.

McGill's performance paced all scorers on the night, but he was the lone Bearcat in double figures.  Hawkins tallied eight points, while Berry and Wright scored 7 each.  Armani Fountain grabbed a game-high seven rebounds, while Benetti recorded six.

For Thiel, freshman Blair Rosenblad scored 27 points while Devon Adams added 20 points, five steals, and a team-high six boards.

SVC out-rebounded Thiel by a 36-30 margin, but the Tomcats caused 23 Bearcat turnovers.

12/5 - Westminster

The Bearcats dropped their second straight, falling 82-73 to Westminster College in the Carey Center.

Saint Vincent came out of the blocks in a hurry, opening up a 9-2 lead just over five minutes into the game, with Garrison Gross contributing four points.  A pair of free throws by Edmond Wright then increased the lead to 12-3 at the 13:13 mark, but the Titans closed the gap to just three, 13-10, just 90 seconds later.

SVC responded with five quick points to make it 18-10, and a baseline jumper from Armani Fountain made it a nine point game (20-11) just past the midway point of the first half.

Westminster then scored four points to cut the gap to five, and the teams played evenly for the next several minutes.  With 5:17 left, Alberto Benetti hit a jumper that put the Bearcats ahead 26-21.  Unfortunately, it would be the last points SVC would score in the first half, at the Titans unleashed an 18-0 run over the final five minutes, taking a 39-26 lead.

The run stretched to 24 points early in the second half before BJ McGill sparked an 11-2 Saint Vincent run.  McGill started with a drive and layup, then hit a three-pointer, and later closed the run with a tip-in at the 16 minute mark that cut the deficit to ten, 47-37.

However, Westminster later ran the lead back to fifteen (57-42), and it wasn't until a conventional three-point play by McGill with 8:17 remaining that the gap dropped to single digits, 59-50.  Once again, the Titans played well on both sides of the ball, and SVC never got back within nine.

McGill led all scorers on the night with 24 points, while Maurice Hawkins added 14 for the Bearcats.  Gross scored 9, while Wright tallied 8 points.

12/11 - Hood

The Bearcats lost a tough battle with Hood College on the road at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland, by a score of 75-70.

SVC led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but four Bearcats fouled out later in the game, and the Blazers took advantage of the opportunity.

The teams played evenly through the early minutes, with the Bearcats holding an 11-10 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the first half, before points by Mike Watkins and BJ McGill helped stretch the lead to seven, 18-11.

Hood fought back to tie the game at 26 with just 2:35 on the clock, but a score by Watkins in the paint, a jumper by Stephon Berry and a three by Maurice Hawkins gave SVC a seven-point lead, which they later carried into the break.

A Watkins three at the 14:45 mark of the second half stretched the lead to eleven (47-36), but the Blazers then embarked on a 21-2 run, including 14-0 at one stretch, to take a 57-49 lead with under ten minutes left.

A layup by Henry Utku brough the Bearcats back within six, and a McGill three with 4:53 left made it a one-point deficit, 62-61.

The Bearcats, who had already lost Watkins to five fouls, could not stay out of foul trouble, as the team lost Hawkins and Alberto Benetti, and McGill was forced to play with four fouls, eventually picking up his fifth in the closing seconds.

Hood took advantage at the foul line, extending the lead and holding on for a five-point win.

McGill led all scorers on the night with 33 points, a career best, shooting 12-21 from the floor including 5-9 from outside the 3-point arc.  He also grabbed 9 rebounds.  Watkins had 15 points and a team-high 11 boards.  Armani Fountain and Stephon Berry each scored 6 points.  Hawkins recorded 9 assists, while McGill had three steals.

12/29 - St John Fisher Tournament

Despite leading at the half, SVC lost to tournament host Saint John Fisher by a score of 68-47 in New York.

Both teams struggled from the floor during the first half, with SJF shooting 25% and SVC just over 23%, including 1 of 11 from outside the arc.  Still, the Bearcats took a 22-21 advantage into the break thanks to solid defensive play, led by five first-half steals by BJ McGill.  Offensively, Mike Watkins scored 8 points in the first 20 minutes.

Things changed as soon as the second half began, with the hosts going on a 16-4 run in the first five minutes of play.  While Saint Vincent continued to struggle, shooting just 32% in the second half, the Cardinals shot 76% (19 for 25) in the second half to pull away to the win.

Jodran Koch (SJF) led all scorers in the game with 25 points, while Jason Norsen added 11 rebounds and 15 points for Fisher (4-2).

Saint Vincent (3-6) was led by McGill's 22 points, while Stephon Berry grabbed a team-high 9 boards.  Henry Utku played well off the bench, scoring 5 points and adding 5 rebounds in just 12 minutes, while Joe Marzullo also played well in his first action of the season, scoring 5 points and adding three assists.

12/30 - St John Fisher Tournament - St. Lawrence

The Saints from St. Lawrence University defeated the Bearcats in the consolation of the St. John Fisher Holiday Tournament by a score of 64-54.

SVC dominated play in the opening minutes, taking a 6-0 lead on baskets by Mike Watkins, Maurice Hawkins and BJ McGill in the opening four minutes.

After the Saints cut the gap to one, 6-5, SVC then scored the game's next five points on a trey by Watkins and a reverse layup by Henry Utku, making it 11-5.

St. Lawrence then went on a 14-point run to take a 19-11 lead before a McGill score ended the SVC dry spell with 7 minutes left in the first half.  Later, a 3-point play by Joe Marzullo reduced the deficit to three, 24-21, at the 3:30 mark, but the Saints outscored the Bearcats 10-2 the rest of the way, taking at 34-23 lead into the break.

A basket by Alberto Benetti, followed by a McGill three-pointer at the 14:30 mark of the second half  cut the gap to seven, 40-33, but SVC could not get any closer, as the team dropped its sixth straight game, falling to 3-7 on the year.

McGill led all scorers in the game with 26 points, while grabbing 7 rebounds and posting six steals.  Stephon Berry had a team-best 9 rebounds.

1/2 - PSU-Fayette

The Saint Vincent Bearcats completed a season sweep over Penn State-Fayette on the road, winning 71-67.

SVC led throughout the first 6+ minutes, but the Roaring Lions took the lead at the 13:45 mark after a three-pointer, 12-10.  BJ McGill quickly drove downcourt on the ensuing possession and tied the game at 12, then Mike Watkins hit a pair of free throws at the 13:12 mark to put Saint Vincent back in front.  From that point, the Bearcats never gave up the lead the remainder of the game.

Late in the first half, a baseline jumper from Armani Fountain gave SVC a 36-23 lead, their largest of the half, but the hosts scored the final six points of the half, making it 36-29 at the break.

A pair of scores by Watkins in the opening minute of the second half ran the lead back to eleven, then Fountain scored again to make it 42-29.  Later, McGill scored twice to make it a 15-point game, 48-33, but the Roaring Lions then went on a 13-1 run, with a David Winns bucket making it 49-46 with nine minutes left in the second half.

Watkins quickly responded with four points to extend the lead back to seven, but the next four points belonged to PSU, as a James Pratt score one again made it a 3-point game, 53-50, with less than 8 minutes remaining.

Once again, the Bearcats responded, with a Moe Hawkins score followed by a McGill drive to the hoop at the 6:50 mark, making it 57-50.

Saint Vincent continued to hold a moderate lead until the closing minute, when a pair of free throws by Winns, were followed by a Bearcat turnover and a trey from Joshua Tomson that made the score 66-62 with just 22 seconds remaining.  After a pair of Watkins free throws, Anthony Howard hit a three with just 14 seconds on the clock that made it 68-65, but Hawkins and Watkins each hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to help clinch the hard-fought win.

Watkins led all scorers on the day with 24 points, including 8-of-10 shots from the charity stripe, and also grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds for the Bearcats.  McGill added 20 points and recorded 4 steals.  Hawkins scored 10 points and added 5 boards.

1/5 - W&J

The Saint Vincent Bearcats erased an 11-point halftime deficit and defeated the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents in overtime by a score of 71-68.

SVC held the lead throughout the first 10+ minutes, opening up by as many as six (13-7), and holding a 19-15 lead after a McGill steal and score with under 9 minutes left.

The Presidents then stormed back, going on a 14-0 run, led by senior point guard Matt Drakeley, who tallied 21 points on the night.

Down 29-19, Saint Vincent finally got a bucket with just 2:50 left in the first half when Mike Watkins hit a three-pointer, but the lead grew to 14 before a Stephon Berry tip-in closed the half with the Bearcats down 36-25.

The lead remained eleven (40-29) before SVC went on a 5-point run early in the second half, with Watkins providing four of the points.  However, a Brian Felker trey at the 14 minute mark once again pushed the lead to eleven (47-36) before the Bearcats got physical and started to close the gap.

BJ McGill scored five straight points, the last three of which came on a conventional three-point play, then Henry Utku drove the lane and did the same.  After he converted the free throw, the Bearcats trailed by just three, 47-44.  A pair of free throws, one by Ed Wright and one by McGill, made it a one-point game midway through the second half, before the Presidents added a three-point play of their own by Felker to make it 50-46.

Down by three with 6:30 to play, the Bearcats received a lift from Wright, who hit a three-pointer to tie the game, 54-54 then stole a pass and picked up a foul, hitting one shot at the line to give the Bearcats their first lead since the first half, 55-54.

The teams continued to bounce the lead back and forth through the closing minutes of regulation.  Felker put the Presidents back in front by two, 60-58 with 1:42 left, but a turnaround jumper by Armani Fountain tied the game 19 seconds later.  Wright then put SVC ahead with just 55 seconds to go, but Felker hit a pair of shots from the charity stripe with 39 ticks remaining to tie the game.  Neither team could score in the closing seconds of regulation, sending the game to overtime.

SVC quickly jumped to a four-point lead after a McGill fadeaway and a circus-layup by Moe Hawkins.  After a free throw by W&J, a Berry putback gave the hosts a five-point lead, 68-63, with 1:15 left in OT.  Drakeley cut the lead to three at the 1:04 mark, but Fountain hit a free throw to make it a four-point lead, 69-65, with just 14.9 seconds left.

Drakeley then drove the lane and scored, picking up a foul in the process, with 7 seconds left, and the lead was down to just one, 69-68.  However, McGill drew a foul with 5.9 on the clock and hit both shots, and a desperation last second half court shot by the Presidents fell short.

McGill led Saint Vincent on the night with 22 points, while Watkins added 19.  Each had six rebounds, while McGill added 5 steals.  Utku tallied seven points and 8 rebounds, while Berry scored six points and had a team-best 9 boards.  Wright scored 7 points, while Fountain had 6 points and 5 rebounds.   As a team, SVC outrebounded W&J 46-36.

1/7 - Geneva

The Bearcats had trouble shooting, converting just 30% from the floor, in a 79-55 loss at Geneva College.

BJ McGill put SVC ahead 2-0 seconds into the game, but Geneva took the lead at the 19:07 mark with a three-pointer from Brandon Sopko, and the hosts kept the lead the remainder of the game.

Geneva was ahead 11-4 before Mike Watkins scored five straight points to cut the deficit to two, but Geneva's three-point shooting kept the Bearcats playing catch-up the rest of the half, and SVC struggled from the floor, shooting just 29% in the opening 20 minutes.

The Bearcats continued to struggle in the second half, shooting just 31%, while Geneva hit just under 50% on the night.  The Golden Tornadoes scored the first seven points of the second half and continued to build the lead, drawing away to a 24-point victory.

Watkins led the Bearcats with 16 points, and added six rebounds.  McGill scored 11 and added three steals, while Stephon Berry had a game-high 9 rebounds.  Ed Wright added 7 points and 5 rebounds for SVC (5-8).

1/9 - Bethany

The Bearcats, dressing just eight players, suffered a tough home loss to Bethany College by a score of 62-56.

The Bison opened the game by scoring five points in 45 seconds, but SVC fought back to later tie the game at 7-7 and the teams remained close throughout much of the remainder of the first half.

Bethany took the largest lead of the opening half, 20-15, with just under nine minutes remaining, but SVC later tied the game at 25-25 on a baseline drive by Ed Wright in the closing minutes.  However, the Bison outscored Saint Vincent 5-1 before the break, taking a 30-26 lead into the locker room.

Strong play by Henry Utku on both offense and defense brought SVC right back into the game to start the second half, but Bethany later opened a 7-point lead, 37-30, at the 14:55 mark.

BJ McGill then hit a three-pointer and a long jumper that cut the deficit to two, 37-35, and after a Bison score, Hawkins took over with a reverse layup and a drive through the lane, tying the game at 39-39.

Saint Vincent then took its first lead since early in the game when McGill hit a trey at the 8:35 mark, making it 42-39, but the Bison scored the game's next five points to take a 44-42 lead.

The teams then traded leads six more times in the next four minutes, with the Bearcats taking a 52-50 lead after a three by Wright with 4:40 remaining.

With just two minutes on the clock, the Bearcats found themselves behind by a score of 56-53, but Hawkins again fought through the defense and scored to make it a one-point game, but it was as close the hosts would get, as the Bison hit several free throws in the closing seconds to pull away to the victory.

For Saint Vincent, McGill tallied 19 points, while Hawkins added 15.  Wright scored 11 and Utku added 6.  Stephon Berry grabbed nine rebounds for the Bearcats (5-9).

1/13 - Waynesburg

The Bearcats dropped a shocker to Waynesburg University on the road by a score of 58-56.

It was all Waynesburg in the early part of the game, as the hosts opened an 11-3 lead before SVC slowly started chipping away at the deficit.

Scores by Ed Wright and McGill helped SVC to tie the game at 18-18 with 8:45 left in the first half.  A three by McGill at the 4:44 mark put SVC ahead, 25-22, but Waynesburg fought back and eventually built a 34-27 lead, before McGill hit a long three in the closing seconds to make it a four-point game at the half.

Waynesburg continued to hold the lead until the 14:00 mark of the second half, when McGill converted a conventional three-point play to give the Bearcats the lead, 41-40.  After an Alberto Benetti free throw made it 42-40, Waynesburg went on a nine-point run to make it 49-42 with 10:35 remaining.

Again, SVC rallied, with a pair of scores from Henry Utku cutting the gap to just one (53-52).  McGill then hit a jumper with 5:22 left that put Saint Vincent back into the lead.  The game then turned into a defensive struggle, with neither team finding the hoop until the 2:04 mark, when Waynesburg retook command, 55-54.  They built the lead back to three, 57-54, when McGill drew a foul and hit both shots with just 39 seconds remaining.

A free throw by Waynesburg with 19 seconds put the hosts up by two, and SVC drew another foul seven seconds later.  However, the visitors were unable to convert the front end of the one-and-one, yet managed to end up with the ball after a scramble resulted in Waynesburg knocking the ball out of bounds.  SVC had one last chance, but a last second attempt to tie the game missed the mark.

BJ McGill led all scorers with 26 points on the night, and also grabbed 9 rebounds.  Henry Utku and Stephon Berry each had 8 boards.

1/16 - Grove City

The Grove City Wolverines invaded the Carey Center and defeated Saint Vincent by a score of 79-66.

Grove City scored the game's opening basket less than one minute into play and never trailed the remainder of the night.

The visitors led 7-1 before SVC mounted a comeback, getting to within two points, 11-9, on a fadeaway by Stephon Berry at the 12:57 mark.

After Grove City ran the lead to ten (25-15) with 6:20 to go in the half, SVC again fought back, with back-to-back scores by Berry making it a four point game, 30-26, with 2:10 to go.  However, the Wolverines went on a 7-0 run to end the half to take a 37-26 advantage into the locker room.

The lead grew to as many as 18 early in the second half, but scores from Henry Utku and BJ McGill helped to close the gap to just ten, 55-45, with eleven minutes left.

The lead then hovered between ten and fifteen the remainder of the way.  A free throw by Berry with just 1:06 on the clock marked the only time that the Grove City lead dropped to single digits, making it 75-66, before the visitors scored the game's final four points.

McGill led all scorers on the night with 24 points.  Berry had a career-best 13.  Armani Fountain added 8 points and a team-best 7 rebounds for Saint Vincent (5-11).

1/20 - Thomas More

The Bearcats outscored Thomas More in the second half, but could not overcome a halftime deficit, falling 84-72 on the road in Kentucky.

The Saints led from the start, building a 16-point lead (30-14) after a nine point run near the midway point of the first half.  The hosts continued to build the lead, eventually taking a 26-point advantage into the break, 53-27.

The lead ran as high as 28 before Saint Vincent started to chip away at the gap, thanks to strong play from junior guard BJ McGill.  With just under seven minutes left, SVC trailed 75-54, before McGill started an 8-point run with a pair of free throws.  Alberto Benetti then scored, followed by a drive from Moe Hawkins at the 5:21 mark.  McGill then came up with a steal and score at the five minute mark that cut the gap to thirteen, 75-62, before the Saints managed to stabilize their lead and hold on for the victory.

McGill led all scorers on the night with 30 points, grabbed six rebounds and tallied five steals for Saint Vincent.  Hawkins added 10 points and 6 boards.  Stephon Berry had 8 points and 6 rebounds, while Ryan Nelson scored 7.

Thomas More (13-4) was led by Daniel McKeehan's 18 points, while Eddie Brown scored 14 off the bench in just 13 minutes on  the court.  McKeehan had a game-high 7 rebounds.

1/23 - Thiel

The Bearcats lost a 70-52 decision to the Thiel College Tomcats on the road in Greenville, PA.
