3/11: Bearcat season ends in Sweet 16
For the third consecutive season, the Sweet Sixteen round of the NAIA National Tournament proved to be the Achilles Heel for the Bearcats.
Indiana Tech defeated SVC 95-85 in overtime, ending the Bearcats' 16-game winning streak. Coach D.P. Harris' squad, which haven't lost a game since December 28th at Palm Beach Atlantic, finish the season with a 25-5 record.
Senior Tony Washam led all scorers with 36 points, and he grabbed 10 rebounds in the final game of his storied career. He was joined in double-digits by 6-11 junior center Jeff Mallory, who took advantage of an undersized Indiana Tech lineup, netting 18 points and pulling down nine boards. Washam's classmate Felix Indaye scored 12 on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the three-point arc.
The Warriors were led by Jujuan Cooley, who scored 32 (including an 18-of-19 effort from the foul line) and Kendrick Cornelius, who scored 26.
The play was back and forth for the duration of the game. In the first half, the Bearcats trailed by as many as five at the 10:44 mark, but went on a 17-6 run to take a 40-32 lead into half time.
The play belonged to Saint Vincent during the early stages of the first half, leading by as many as nine with 14:53 to go. Indiana Tech, however, refused to go away, and eventually took the lead at the 10:24 mark on a three-pointer by Cornelius.
SVC rattled off the next eight points, punctuated by a Mallory slam at the 7:32 mark. The Warriors again tied it at 68 with 3:17 left, but senior Marcus Fisher nailed a three-pointer with 2:22 left to take the lead.
The Warriors pulled ahead 72-71 with :40 seconds left, and it looked all but over when sophomore Ian McCollough came up short with a three-point attempt at the right wing with 17 ticks to go. After a pair of Warrior free-throws, Felix Indaye hit a three-pointer with nine seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Indiana Tech owned the overtime play, however, out-scoring the Bearcats 21-11.
The four Bearcat seniors, including Kenny Roberts, Washam, Indaye, and Fisher, finish their careers with an overall record 97-24, by far the winningest of any graduating class in history.
"We will never be able to replace that class," said coach Harris. "Kenny and Tony are the two best players to ever play at Saint Vincent, and they built this program."
Added Washam, the school record holder for career points and rebounds as well as single season and single game points, "I'm glad I got to play with the people I did," saying that it will be hard to move on.

They finish with an overall record of 23-4. 2/12: Bearcats move to 12-0 with OT victory
The Saint Vincent men's squad, which already clinched the AMC North with a

clubs, coming from behind in the night cap to defeat Daemen 96-95 in
an overtime thriller.
The ailing Tony Washam led all scorers with 38
points, including a 4-4 showing from behind the arc. Suffering from the
flu, the senior guard did not start or even travel with the team. He
instead arrived just hours before gametime with assistant coach Chris
Fite.
Point guard Kenny Roberts scored 24 and dished out four assists.
Despite jumping out to an early 6-0 lead, the Bearcats trailed
36-33 at the half and by as many as 12 with 12 minutes left in regulation.

61-59, but the Wildcats pulled ahead by eight at the six minute mark.
With nine seconds left, Daemen was ahead 85-82. Washam nailed a
three-pointer off of a Kharmen Wingard turnover to tie the game. The
two-time All-American then blocked a Darnell Jackson shot with one second
remaining to send the game into overtime.
The play in the extra session went back and forth, and Washam and center Jeff
Mallory both fouled out. With the Bearcats leading by one with 28 seconds
remaining, sophomore Ian McCollough continued his flare for the dramatic,
nailing a spinning fadeaway jumper to put the Bearcats up 96-93. Jackson
scored with 12 ticks left to make it 96-95, but he then missed a buzzer-beater
to end the game.

half.
Coach D.P. Harris' Bearcats shot a blistering 57 percent from both the field
and behind the three-point arc for the contest, and the Bearcats out-rebounded
the Wildcats 32-26.
Daemen was led by Brian Montanaro who scored 19. Ron Wright netted
18.
SVC, which stretched its winning streak to 11 straight, improves to 20-4
overall and a perfect 11-0 in the AMC North. The Wildcats fell to 16-10
and 6-4 in the division.

to go with nine assists. He also established the all-time school record
Saturday evening with his 114th consecutive start.
A pair of Bearcats recorded 20 points, including junior center Jeff Mallory
and sophomore guard Ian McCollough. Mallory shot a stellar 10-12 from
the field, and grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double. McCollough shot
8-9 on the night, including 4-4 from behind the three-point arc.
Both teams shot well from the field, with the Bearcats firing at a 60 percent
clip and the Falcons at 54.
Paul Benjamin scored 28 and Jerome Pierce 23 for the losers.
With the victory, the sixth-ranked Bearcats improve to a perfect 10-0 in the
American Mideast Conference's North Division and 19-4 overall. Notre Dame falls

2/1: SVC completes season sweep of rival Seton Hill
The Bearcats improved their record to a perfect 9-0 in the AMC after
holding on for a 76-73 victory over the Griffins.
Bearcat center Jeff Mallory had a near perfect night, leading the team to
victory with 24 points. He was 8-for-8 from the floor in the first half
and hit his first ten shots overall before his first miss midway through the
second half. He finished the night 11-of-14.
The Bearcats scored first, and never trailed the remainder of the game.
SVC opened up a moderate lead several times throughout the night, but Seton Hill
refused to go away.
The Bearcats led 19-9 with 10:30 remaining, but with 6:30 to go in the half
it was a three-point game, 27-24. The Bearcats ran the lead back up to
eight, but SHU cut it to four with 2:30 left. Finally, a Kenny Roberts
trey at the buzzer sent the Bearcats to the locker room with a 43-34
advantage.
The second half brought the largest lead of the night for SVC, eleven points
with 12:39 remaining (57-46), but once again the Griffins fought back.
With 4:32 left, the lead was just two at 67-65. The Bearcats continued
to hold a narrow advantage until SHU's Daniel George hit a hook shot with
1:05 remaining, tying the score at 73-73.
With 32.1 seconds on the clock, Roberts was fouled and hit both free throw
attempts, giving the Bearcats a 75-73 advantage. SHU missed a shot with
12.2 seconds left, but the rebound was knocked out of bounds by a Bearcat,
giving SHU a second chance. Dimitar Simovksi missed a three-pointer with 6
seconds remaining, and SVC's Tony Washam quickly grabbed the rebound and was
fouled.
His first free throw missed the mark, but when he converted the second one it
upped the advantage to three, 76-73. Following a time out, Seton Hill had
one final opportunity to tie the game, but a last second shot by Zarko Kostic,
who had a game-high 26 points, caromed off the rim and into the hands of
Mallory to end the game.
It closed a perfect day for SVC, which found out earlier in the afternoon
that the men's team had moved up five places to a #6 ranking in the nation.
Mallory's 24 points were a season high. Kenny Roberts added 20, Tony
Washam scored 15 and Felix Indaye 9, all on three-pointers.

Mallory also grabbed 10 rebounds.

the half.

night, as the Bearcats recovered from a 51-38 halftime deficit to defeat
crosstown rival Seton Hill University by a final score of 83-70.
The first half wasn't a pretty one for Bearcat fans, as SVC trailed by
as many as 17 before cutting the margin to 13 at the half.
At the beginning of the second half, center Jeff Mallory threw down an
emphatic dunk, reinvigorating the Bearcats, who went on a 14-2 tear to start off

including Kenny Roberts (13), Tony Washam (11), and Marcus Fisher (10).
SVC out-rebounded the Highlanders 87-49, and held Houghton to shooting

12/27: "Bearcats" defeat Bethel in FL tourney
They may not have looked like the Bearcats, but they played like them.
Coach D.P. Harris' men's team overcame a bit of adversity and defeated Bethel
College of Indiana in overtime by a 109-104 score in the first game of the
two-day Palm Beach Atlantic tournament.
The Bearcats fell victim to USAirways' luggage problems over the holiday
weekend, forcing the team to borrow uniforms from host school Palm Beach
Atlantic in order to play on Monday evening. While the colors may have
been different, it was a solid victory for Saint Vincent.
After losing a halftime lead, the Bearcats found themselves down by seven
points with less than a minute remaining in the game. Jeff Street grabbed
a rebound and hit a layup to cut the Bethel lead to 98-93 at the 41 second
mark. A Bethel turnover led to a quick three-pointer by Tony Washam which
made it a two-point game. With just 14 seconds remaining, Washam stole the
ball and passed to Marcus Fisher who hit a layup to tie the game and sent it to
overtime. The Bearcats scored first in the extra period and never looked

12/10: Washam breaks record, Bearcats lose on final shot
Early in the first half, Tony Washam grabbed his first rebound of the game,
#782 in his Saint Vincent career. The total surpassed the 781 amassed by
Ron Spinosi from 1975-79.
It was a bright spot on a disappointing night for the Bearcats, as Walsh
University's Corey Jones hit a three-pointer with 1.7 seconds remaining to
give the Cavaliers a 64-66 upset victory over the 18th-ranked Bearcats.
The Bearcats trailed 40-28 at the half, but started the second half shooting
well, cutting the lead in half in the first two minutes.
SVC took its largest lead of the second half, four points (62-58), with just
under 5:30 remaining. A Walsh trey cut it to 62-61 with 5:04 left, before
a defensive struggle began. Over the next five minutes, only four total
points were scored. A pair of free throws gave the Cavs a 63-62 lead with
2:00 remaining, then a jumper by Washam with 1:36 left put SVC back in front,
64-63.
With 29 seconds remaining, SVC gained possession after a jump ball was
called, but a Walsh steal gave the host team a final opportunity. The
Bearcats thwarted one effort by knocking the ball out of bounds with 8 seconds
left, but Jones, a freshman, was given an opportunity to win the game in the
closing seconds and became the hero of the moment.

The Bearcats, despite trailing by as many as 12 points in the second half,
defeated the NAIA Division I eighth-ranked team, Georgetown College (KY),
in dramatic fashion, 71-70.
Trailing 70-69, sophomore Ian McCollough stole an inbound pass with less than
three seconds left and passed to a wide open Tony Washam underneath the hoop for
the easy lay up.
The Tigers roared out to a 10-0 lead in the opening moments. The
Bearcats continually chipped away from the Tiger lead, and took a 33-26
deficit going into the half.
The Bearcats slowly cut into the Georgetown lead throughout the second half,
narrowing the margin to two with less than a minute remaining. After
a GC foul shot, the Bearcats trailed 70-67, before Kenny Roberts drew a
foul. He connected on both shots to make the score 70-69,

Saint Vincent Bearcats to a 100-36 victory in the season opener over Penn
State-Beaver.

coached Tony at Sanford High School in Delaware. Other family members also
took part in the presentation.
