- To create the necessary tools for understanding change and
complexity in the global marketplace and in the contemporary political
forum, the McKenna School requires its graduates to obtain a strong
liberal arts foundation which incorporates courses in religion, the
sciences, philosophy, the arts, foreign language, English, history, and
mathematics. And for those students who seek further educational
challenges, the McKenna School also offers a particular curriculum in
the Western and American intellectual traditions - students who
successfully complete the required courses receive special Departmental
Honors as a "Classical Liberal Arts Scholar."
- For our
business majors, the McKenna School offers a preparation for life. A
basic insight from the Bell System studies is that the stronger the
liberal arts foundation obtained in college, the higher the future
position the student realizes in management. As evidence, click on Our
Alumni.
- Accounting, Finance and Management majors of the
McKenna School Business Administration Program are accredited by the
Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, one of the few
undergraduate business programs in Pennsylvania meriting this
distinction.
- Acceptance of McKenna School students by
highly competitive graduate and law schools, typically in the 90% to
95% range, combined with extensive faculty scholarship testify to the
strength of all of our programs.
- Our programs not only
advance your knowledge in specific subject areas, they also encourage
and develop analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, writing
and technological skills.
- Apply for the Alex G. McKenna Economics and Policy
scholarships, four-year scholarships awarded annually on the basis of
demonstrated academic achievement, leadership qualities and a mail in
essay competition. The competition is open to high school seniors.
- George
Washington Fellowships are awarded to three to four students per year.
Competition is open to Political Science, Economics, and Public Policy
majors during their sophomore, junior, and senior years.
- All
students may apply for financial aid. The average annual financial aid
package, including scholarships, grants, loans or work/study, is more
than $14,000.
The McKenna School has four Centers under its auspices: Center for Political and Economic Thought, Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Global Competitiveness Center, and the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE, Westmoreland Chapter 555). The Centers are devoted to community, academic, and business development and also provide internships and special education programs to SVC students.
