The Bearcats took the overall team title at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational at the Longue Vue Club in Pittsburgh. With a team score of 298, Saint Vincent finished 10 strokes ahead of second place Carnegie Mellon. SVC's Jeff Varga took second place individually, with a one-over 71, one stroke behind the leader. The Bearcats' Doug Mehall finished fourth overall, with a three-over 73, while John Lutzka finished seventh (75), and Matt Bronkar eleventh (79). A total of 35 golfers participated. Following Saint Vincent and Carnegie Mellon, Davis & Elkins College took third with a team score of 309, Westminster fourth (318), and Waynesburg fifth (335). The Carnegie Mellon Invitational is the first team title for the Bearcats in the 2008 season, as SVC finished second at both Washington & Jefferson and Waynesburg. The Bearcats return to the course on Monday, taking part in the two-day Indiana University of PA Invitational, held at the Indiana Country Club.
