The Bearcats opened the 2008 season with a 19-9 loss on the road against
Virginia Wesleyan College.
Zach Wilfong scored six goals in his Bearcat debut. Jason Powell added a
pair of goals while Evan Chateauneuf scored once. Luke Swerdlow had three
assists and Ryan Kearney had one.
Jon McMahon took the loss in goal for the Bearcats (0-1).

The Gophers of Goucher College defeated the Saint Vincent Bearcats by a score
of 10-5.
SVC jumped to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals by Jarrid Johnson, but Goucher
stormed back to take a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and continued to
widen the advantage.
Johnson led the Bearcat attack with 4 goals on the day. Evan Chateauneuf
added a goal and an assist, and Luke Swerdlow had an assist.

The Bearcats picked up their first win of the season, holding on for an 11-10 win on the road at Wittenberg University.\ Zach Wilfong and Ryan Kearney led the offense with three goals each. Luke Swerdlow scored a pair of goals, while Gavin Bates, Evan Chateauneuf and Jason Powell added one goal each. Wilfong, Swerdlow, Bates and TJ Roney each tallied an assist. Jon McMahon earned the victory in the net for SVC (1-2).

The Bearcats dropped their 2008 home opener to Kenyon College by a score of
13-6.
Zack Wilfong scored three goals for SVC, while Jon McMahon made 17 stops in
goal, but it wasn't enough, as the Lords won their fourth straight.
Kenyon started quickly, scoring two goals in the first two minutes of play,
before Jarrid Johnson scored from five yards out to put the Bearcats on the
board with 11:50 to go in the first quarter.
The Lords continued to press on offense, but were able to find the net just
once more in the opening stanza, going up 3-1 with 5:30 left in the quarter.
The Bearcats were the first team to find the scoreboard in the second
quarter, with Wilfong scoring his first goal of the day to bring the Bearcats to
within one.
Kenyon then answered right back, scoring twice in 90 seconds, before SVC's
Gavin Bates sent a rocket into the back of the net, off of a Wilfong assist, to
bring the Bearcats again to within 5-3 with just under nine minutes left in the
first half. The Lords then struck quickly again, scoring two goals in 40
seconds to go up 7-3.
Each team then scored twice over the final five minutes of the second
quarter, with Wilfong netting both Bearcat goals, and the visiting Lords took a
9-5 lead into halftime.
Kenyon went up 10-5 on a goal six minutes into the third quarter, and the
score stayed that way until Johnson scored his second tally for SVC with 1:36
remaining in the third.
The Lords then put the game away, scoring the game's final three goals in the
first five minutes of the fourth quarter.

The Saint Vincent Bearcats defeated visiting Tri State University by a score of 12-1. SVC
jumped to a 5-0 lead with a strong first quarter, led by a pair of
goals by Evan Chateauneuf. The Bearcats added one goal in the second,
as Jarrid Johnson tallied his second goal of the day. The hosts led 8-1 after three quarters, then tacked on four more goals in the final panel for the victory. In
addition to Chateauneuf and Johnson, Luke Swerdlow scored twice for the
Bearcats (2-3). Other goal scorers were Ryan Kearney, Jake Dick, Jason
Powell, Pat Bursch, TJ Roney and Mark Duman. Assists went to Chateauneuf, Gavin Bates (2), Swerdlow, Johnson, Bursch, Vinnie DiSantis, Powell and Brendan Egan. Jon
McMahon played well for the first 53 minutes in goal and recorded 14
saves. He gave way to freshman Nick Kunz, who made three saves on
close range shots in the final 7 minutes.

The Bearcats were defeated 13-12 by visiting Seton Hill University, who scored with 0.5 seconds left in regulation. Zach Wilfong and Jarrid Johnson scored three goals apiece for Saint Vincent, while Evan Chateaneuf and Ryan Kearney each scored twice. Luke Swerdlow and Gavin Bates added one goal apiece for the Bearcats. Johnson scored the first goal of the contest with 9:23 left in the first quarter, before the Griffins evened the score just a minute later. Chateaneuf and Wilfong then scored goals 10 seconds apart to put the Bearcats up 3-1 with just over six minutes left in the first stanza. The Griffins pulled it to within one with a goal two minutes later, and the first quarter ended with SVC ahead 3-2. Wilfong then scored for the second time at the 8:35 mark of the second quarter, as he curled from behind the net and let the shot go while falling to the ground, to put SVC up by two. The Griffins then scored two quick goals to tie the game at four, before Kearney and Johnson each found the net, giving the Bearcats a 6-4 lead with 7:45 left in the first half. Wilfong's third tally of the game, with 2:44 left in the second quarter, was sandwiched between Seton Hill goals, and the Bearcats took a 7-6 lead into halftime. The game was a back-and-forth battle in the second half, with the Griffins scoring two quick goals to open up after halftime, taking their first lead of the game with 11:34 left in the third. The teams then shared the lead twice, before Bates, Johnson, and Kearney scored within 90 seconds to put SVC ahead 11-9 with 5:30 left in the fourth quarter. Seton Hill answered back with three goals of their own, going up 12-11 with 2:30 left in regulation, and then Swerdlow tied it up for SVC with just under two minutes to go. Over the next 90 seconds, the teams shared possessions with neither getting a prime scoring chance. The Griffins called time out with 10.8 seconds left and the ball in their end, and on their ensuing possession, after a number of passes deep in SVC territory, Justin Starkey beat the clock and sealed the win with a shot from 10 feet out with just a half second left on the clock. The game was physical from the start, with a total of 19 penalties called. The Bearcats had 11 man-up opportunities, but were able to cash in with a goal on only three. Joel Zalesky led Seton Hill (5-5) with three goals, while Ben Petchel and Chris Horigan each scored twice. Johnson recorded a five-point day for the green and gold, as he added a pair of assists to his three goals. Swerdlow also picked up a pair of helpers, while Kearney, Wilfong, and Chateaneuf all had one assist.

The Bearcats lost to a tough Ohio Wesleyan team at home by a score of 17-2. The Battling Bishops set the tone early, scoring just 34 seconds into the game. Neither team scored for the next 6+ minutes, before Ohio Wesleyan tacked on two quick goals within 30 seconds to go ahead 3-0. With the score 4-0, Pat Bursch scored for SVC at the 5:51 mark of the first quarter, but OWU tacked on two more goals to take a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, thanks to several key saves by goalie Ryan Perone. OWU made it 9-1 in the second before Ryan Kearney scored for the Bearcats off an assist from Jarrid Johnson. Once again, however, Perone stonewalled the hosts and SVC was down 10-1 at the halftime break. The visitors changed goalies in the second half, but backup Jud Hall shut down SVC over the final 30 minutes, and OWU pulled away to a 17-2 victory. SVC was outshot 38-28 for the day, and managed only one shot in the fourth quarter.

The Bearcats lost to Denison University on the first day of a 2-game road trip. The final score was 19-5. Pat Bursch led Saint Vincent with three goals. Zach Wilfong added a goal and two assists, while Jake Dick added the other Bearcat goal. Jarrid Johnson had a pair of assists, while TJ Roney record one assist.

The Bearcats defeated the College of Mt. St. Joseph on the road by a score of 12-6. SVC opened up a 6-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, then took a 6-2 advantage into the halftime break. Saint Vincent scored the only goal of the third quarter, then tacked on five more in the fourth for a 12-6 win. Jarrid Johnson led the attack with three goals and an assist, while Luke Swerdlow added 3 goals. Evan Chateauneuf scored a pair of goals, while Zach Wilfong, Pat Bursch, Gavin Bates and Mason Fast each scored once. Wilfong added three assists on the day, while Jason Powell recorded two.

The Greensboro College Pride invaded Latrobe and defeated the Bearcats by a score of 10-6. Greensboro started quickly, as Jose Rodriguez scored just 59 seconds into the first quarter. Midway through the first quarter, it was 2-0 Pride before Jason Powell took a pass from Luke Swerdlow and scored, cutting the gap to 2-1. Neal McKinney added a man-up goal late in the first quarter, then scored again early in the second to make it 4-1 Greensboro. Powell, assisted by Zach Wilfong, added another goal to make it 4-2 at the half. In the third quarter, Greensboro added to their lead with three goals. Gavin Bates scored the lone SVC goal. The Bearcats mounted a comeback in the fourth. With the score 9-3, Jarrid Johnson scored a pair of unassisted goals less than two minutes apart, then Wilfong scored with 6:17 left to make it 9-6, but it was as close as the Bearcats would get.

The Bearcats came back from a 10-4 deficit at the start of the fourth quarter
to post a thrilling 12-11 win over Wheeling Jesuit University at
home.
After Wheeling took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter, Jarrid Johnson
tied the game with a goal at the 5:46 mark. The teams continued to
play evenly throughout the quarter, until Sam Futrovsky set up Vinnie DiSantis
with just 17 seconds left in the first, as SVC took a 2-1 lead.
Wheeling came back strong in the second, scoring three
straight goals to take a 4-2 lead. Johnson then got one back for
SVC off an assist from Jason Powell, making it 4-3, but Wheeling added two more
goals to make it 6-3 at the half.
Things didn’t start much better for the Bearcats in the
second half, as the Cardinals increased the lead to 8-3 before Johnson’s third
goal of the day made it 8-4. Still, the Bearcats couldn’t stop
Wheeling, as they added a pair of goals to take a 6-goal lead into the fourth
quarter.
Just 51 seconds into the fourth, Pat Bursch scored a man-up
goal off an assist from Gavin Bates to make it 10-5.
Three minutes later, Luke Swerdlow tallied his first goal of
the game, cutting the margin to four goals.
After Wheeling answered with a goal, the Bearcats scored
again, as Swerdlow fed Zach Wilfong for a goal with just under 8 minutes
remaining.
A minute and a half later, Johnson scored again, making it
11-8.
After a Wheeling penalty, Pat Bursch scored his
second man-up goal of the quarter, making it a 2-goal game at the 4:44 mark.
Less than a minute later, it became a one-goal game when Ryan
Kerney scored off a Wilfong assist.
As time wound down, the Bearcats needed a big play, and got
one from Zach Wilfong, whose hit jarred the ball loose from the Wheeling
defender. Just a few seconds later, Powell found the net, assisted
by Swerdlow, to tie the game with just one minute and 12 seconds remaining in
regulation.
Overtime looked like a strong possibility, but Jarrid Johnson
scored with just 53 seconds left in regulation to give the Bearcats the 12-11
lead. The team held on for the hard-earned, come-from-behind
victory, outscoring Wheeling Jesuit 8-1 in the final quarter.

The Bearcats posted a 20-10 win over visiting Oberlin College on Senior Day
at Chuck Noll Field.
SVC went up 4-0 early and it appeared as though Oberlin was going to be
unable to mount any offense. SVC led 5-1 at the end of the first quarter, but
Oberlin outscored the hosts by a 4-3 margin in the second, making it 8-5 at the
half.
An Oberlin goal a little over 5 minutes into the third quarter made it 8-6,
then the teams traded goals, making it 9-7. The Bearcats then scored four goals
in a two-minute span to not only extend the lead to six, but also deflate the
Oberlin attack as Saint Vincent pulled away to a 10-goal victory.
Jarrid Johnson and Zach Wilfong each scored 5 goals on the day. Johnson
added a pair of assists and Wilfong had one helper. Gavin Bates, playing in his
final home game, had three goals and an assist. Luke Swerdlow, also in his last
game at SVC, had a pair of goals and three assists.
Other goals were tallied by Ryan Kearney (2), Jason Powell, Vinnie DiSantis
and Jake Dick. Recording assists were Nick Aspiotes, Brendan Egan, Mike
Fishman, Pat Finneran and Powell.
Jon McMahon had five saves in the net, while Nick Kunz played the final 12
minutes and recorded 2 saves.

Seton Hill University held off a late charge by the Bearcats, winning
11-10.
The teams played evenly through the first half, reaching the break tied,
5-5.
Seton Hill held a 7-6 lead at the end of the third, but Gavin Bates tied the
game for the Bearcats less than a minute into the fourth quarter. However, over
the next eight minutes, the Griffins scored four unanswered goals to take an
11-7 advantage.
With 3:20 left, Jarrid Johnson scored his fifth goal of the game to make it
11-8.
At the 2:27 mark, Zach Wilfong cut the deficit to two goals. With 1:03
remaining, Wilfong set up Ryan Kearny for a goal that made it 11-10, but SVC was
unable to score in the final minute.

The Bearcats finished their season with an impressive win, defeating Wells
College by a score of 22-2.
SVC led 12-0 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, cruising
to an easy victory.
Zach Wilfong led the offense with four goals. Jarrid Johnson also had a
four-point day, with two goals and two assists. Jason Powell scored three
goals, while TJ Roney, Ryan Kearney, Brendan Egan and Luke Swerdlow each scored
twice.
Mike Fishman had a goal and 2 assists, while Evan Chateauneuf and Jake Dick
each recorded a goal an an assist. Vinnie DiSantis and Mason Fast had one goal
each. Gavin Bates, Karl Kornides and Pat Bursch each posted two assists on the day, and Nick
Aspiotes had one assist.
Jon McMahon picked up the win in the net, but the SVC defense kept him from
facing a single shot in the first quarter. Nick Kunz played the final 3
quarters and had five saves.
