The Bearcats dropped their 2008 home opener to Kenyon College by a score of 13-6. Zack Wilfong scored three goals for SVC, while Jon McMahon made 17 stops in goal, but it wasn't enough, as the Lords won their fourth straight. Kenyon started quickly, scoring two goals in the first two minutes of play, before Jarrid Johnson scored from five yards out to put the Bearcats on the board with 11:50 to go in the first quarter. The Lords continued to press on offense, but were able to find the net just once more in the opening stanza, going up 3-1 with 5:30 left in the quarter. The Bearcats were the first team to find the scoreboard in the second quarter, with Wilfong scoring his first goal of the day to bring the Bearcats to within one. Kenyon then answered right back, scoring twice in 90 seconds, before SVC's Gavin Bates sent a rocket into the back of the net, off of a Wilfong assist, to bring the Bearcats again to within 5-3 with just under nine minutes left in the first half. The Lords then struck quickly again, scoring two goals in 40 seconds to go up 7-3. Each team then scored twice over the final five minutes of the second quarter, with Wilfong netting both Bearcat goals, and the visiting Lords took a 9-5 lead into halftime. Kenyon went up 10-5 on a goal six minutes into the third quarter, and the score stayed that way until Johnson scored his second tally for SVC with 1:36 remaining in the third. The Lords then put the game away, scoring the game's final three goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. Bret Fuller led the Kenyon (4-1) attack with three goals, while Noah Flessel, Devin Catlin, and Nate Pritchard each scored two apiece. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 1-3 on the young season, and will return to the field on Saturday afternoon, hosting Tri-State University at 1pm.
