SVC Soccer
11/11 @ Rio Grande (Region IX Semifinal)

The Bearcats jumped to a 2-0 lead over the #1 team in the nation, the University of Rio Grande, but the Redmen scored five unanswered goals to secure a 5-2 win in the NAIA Region IX semifinals.

Dave Suski, who will end his career as Saint Vincent's all-time leading scorer, gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead with career goal #56 early in the first half, heading a cross from Jarrod Weaver into the net.

With just under 19 minutes remaining, Scott Gross tallied his sixth goal of the season to give Saint Vincent a 2-0 advantage.  Suski recorded the assist.

Despite the fact that the Bearcats dominated play in the first half, Rio was able to even the game thanks to set plays, scoring on corner kicks to tie the game before the end of the half.

Rio, fielding a team consisting mostly of foreign players, took the lead early in the second half and went on to a 5-2 win.

"We played well, the effort was there," said Coach Keith Harmon.  "It was a good game and a good season.  They're the #1 team in the country and we played right with them for 60 minutes.  I can't be disappointed."

Saint Vincent ends the year 12-8-1, the second highest single-season win total in program history and the highest in 20 years.

11/8 vs Lyndon State (Region IX/X Playoffs)

The Bearcats earned the right to advance in the American Mideast Conference playoffs, defeating Lyndon State 4-2 at Bearcat Field in a steady rain.

The play was even during the first few moments, and the Lyndon State Hornets, representing Region 10 of the NAIA, got on the scoreboard first when Darren Roberge scored a breakaway goal after taking advantage of a Bearcat defender who slipped at the 19:04 mark.

The Bearcats got on the board at the 12:18 mark, when Scott Gross knocked in a deflection of a Mark Mastriano shot to even the game at one.

SVC took the lead at the 37:04 mark of the second half, when defender Jarrod Weaver dribbled the ball the length of the field, and scored.  It was his first goal of the season.

The Hornets evened the score nine minutes later, taking advantage again of a Bearcat defender who slipped for a two-on-none breakaway.  Lyndon State's Dean Hale sent a perfect crease into the box and it was knocked in by Christopher Cowan to make the score 2-2.

Just seven minutes later, the Bearcats' Jim Boland took a shot from 20 yards out and it found the lower left hand corner of the net for what turned out to be the game winner. With 15 minutes left in regulation, SVC's all-time leading scorer Dave Suski added an insurance goal off of a pass from Mike Schreck to put the Bearcats up 4-2.  It was Suski's 15th goal of the season and the 55th of his career.

11/5 @ Houghton (Playoffs)

The Bearcats defeated host Houghton College in the first round of the American Mideast Conference playoffs by a score of 2-0 to advance to the NAIA Region IX/X playoffs.

Saint Vincent, seeking revenge for a 1-0 home loss to Houghton a week ago to end the regular season, struck quickly, as Dave Suski scored off a free kick from 22-yards out just 4:53 into the game.  It was career goal #54 for Suski.

Bearcat keeper CJ Cameron kept the Bearcats in the game with a save off a one-on-one opportunity by Houghton's Ernie Walton.  Cameron managed to punch the ball over the net, giving the Highlanders a corner kick.  On that ensuing kick, Houghton's Josiah Snelgrove placed the ball perfectly, but Tyler Haggarty's header was once again punched over the top of the net thanks to a great effort by Cameron.

With 9:57 remaining in the first half, Snelgrove was called for a foul on SVC's Mark Mastriano, resulting in a yellow card.  It was Snelgrove's second card of the day, requiring a red card ejection.  This forced Houghton to play one man down for the remainder of the contest.

With 33:48 left in the second half, SVC's Bradd Picone started a play with a strong throw-in deep in the Houghton end.  Picone's throw was headed by Suski off the post.  The ball took a favorable Bearcat bounce right to the foot of Mike Schreck, who punched in the Bearcats' second goal and gave SVC an insurance goal.

Ultimately, they would not need it, as Cameron posted his school-record seventh shutout of the season.

10/29 vs Houghton

The Houghton Highlanders won a hard-fought game on a slippery field in Latrobe by a score of 1-0.

The only goal of the game came midway through the first half, when the ball caromed off a Bearcat defender's head into the net to give Houghton the advantage.

10/27 @ Mt Vernon Nazarene

Saint Vincent lost a non-conference matchup on the road against Mount Vernon Nazarene University by a score of 5-1.

After a scoreless first half, MVNU scored twice within a minute shortly after the start of the second half.  Adam Worrell and Josh Van Pelt sent shots past Bearcat keeper Rob Scudder, who replaced Ian Poole after the break.

SVC's Dave Suski scored with 28:59 remaining to cut the margin to 2-1.  Chris Stern recorded the assist. Stern had a breakaway near the 15 minute mark, but MVNU keeper Jordan Knight made the save, keeping the Bearcats from tying the game.

Mount Vernon added three goals in the game's final four minutes to seal a 5-1 victory.

10/22 vs Tiffin

The Bearcats scored three times in the second half - twice on penalty kicks - to secure a come from behind victory over Tiffin University.  The final score was 3-1.

With the Bearcats trailing 1-0 in the second half, Dave Suski evened the score off a pass from Jim Boland.  Later, Saint Vincent's Dave Lauteri was pushed by Tiffin's goalkeeper, resulting in a penalty kick.  SVC's Chris Stern converted on the opportunity to give Saint Vincent the lead.  A second penalty kick goal by Stern, as a result of a handball in the box, iced the game for Saint Vincent.

The Bearcat defense, backed by goalkeeper CJ Cameron, played well throughout the game helping SVC to earn the win.

10/15 vs Roberts Wesleyan

The Saint Vincent Bearcats fought back to tie Roberts Wesleyan College 1-1 in a game that could not be decided after two overtime periods.

The Raiders had the momentum early in the game before Saint Vincent started getting opportunities in the first half.  Neither team could get a quality shot on goal, sending the game into the halftime break scoreless.

Midway through the second half, Raider midfielder Jesse Johnson got a foot on a ball that was bouncing around in front of the Bearcat net, giving the Raiders a 1-0 edge.

SVC was unable to capitalize on a few opportunities, but the defense stepped up and kept the game close.  Roberts Wesleyan had an opportinity with 10 minutes remaining to ice the game, but a shot after a corner kick was diverted just inches in front of the goal line by Bearcat defender Jarrod Weaver.

With less than six minutes remaining, Dave Suski sent a cross from the right side to midfielder Jim Boland, who had pushed forward on the play.  Boland sent a 30-yard shot over RWC keeper Jack Burgasser to tie the game at one.  It was Boland's first goal of the season.

The teams played evenly through the remainder of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

10/8 vs Seton Hill

CJ Cameron posted his school record-equalling sixth shutout of the season as Saint Vincent defeated rival Seton Hill by a score of 1-0.

Seton Hill had the momentum early in the game but were turned away several times by a tough Bearcat defense.  Saint Vincent rallied midway through the half, only to be stopped by a pair of great saves by SHU keeper Sam Dukes.

With 6:40 left in the first, Shea Simpson dropped a pass back to defender Bradd Picone, who had pushed forward, 35 yards from the net.  Picone sent a crossing pass toward the net which was headed by Dave Suski past Dukes to give Saint Vincent a 1-0 lead.  It was career goal #51 for Suski, SVC's all-time leading scorer.

After the break, the Bearcat offense struggled, but the defense was stellar.  Cameron and the rest of the team turned back countless attempts by the Griffins, who managed to keep the ball in the SVC end for much of the second half.  Seton Hill outshot Saint Vincent 7-4 for the afternoon, but failed to get a shot past Cameron, as the Bearcats held on for a 1-0 victory.

10/4 @ Daemen

Dave Suski scored twice, including his 50th career goal, as Saint Vincent defeated Daemen 3-0 on the road.

Shea Simpson scored with 10:29 remaining in the first half, and the Bearcats led 1-0 at halftime.  Suski scored twice within a four minute span in the second half to seal the victory.  Chris Stern assisted on all three goals.  Suski and Dave Lauteri also posted one assist each.

10/1 @ Notre Dame (OH)

Saint Vincent managed just two shots on goal, falling to first place Notre Dame College by a 3-0 score on the road.

9/29 vs Myers

The Bearcats defeated the upstart program from Myers University (OH) by a score of 4-1 at Bearcat Field.

Saint Vincent started the scoring less than three minutes into the game.  Chris Stern's shot rattled off the crossbar and was put into the net by Dave Lauteri. Ten minutes later, Dave Suski scored, assisted by Nick Kozak and Mike Schreck, to make it 2-0.

Just six minutes after that, Lauteri added his second goal of the half in similar fashion -- following a Stern shot that hit the iron.

Midway through the second half, Myers' Rogers Delgado slipped behind Bearcat keeper Ian Poole and put the visitors on the board, but Myers, a first year program that will join the American Mideast Conference in 2006, couldn't muster enough offense to rally.

Scott Gross added a goal with just over two minutes remaining to finish the scoring.  Freshman Edison Silva was credited with the assist - his first point as a Bearcat.

9/24 vs Point Park

The Saint Vincent Bearcats shut out Point Park University at home by a score of 3-0.

Scott Gross started the scoring less than five minutes into the game with a 30+ yard shot from the center of the field.  Dave Lauteri was credited with the assist. Dave Suski added a goal later in the first half of a pass from Shea Simpson, giving SVC a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Bearcat defense kept Point Park from having many scoring opportunties, shutting them out in the first half with no shots on goal.   With 15 minutes remaining in the game, Suski scored his second goal of the day off a punt from keeper CJ Cameron.

9/21 @ Robert Morris

The Bearcats were toppled on the road by the Division-I Robert Morris Colonials on Wednesday, losing by the score of 5-1.

SVC came out flat in the first half, surrendering a quick goal to Colonial forward Jacek Przednowek just nine minutes into the contest.  Robert Morris added another tally with three seconds remaining in the first to take a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Bearcats, who were outshot 9-2 in the first frame, were kept in the game thanks in part to goalkeeper C.J. Cameron, who made a number of spectacular saves.

SVC came out sharp in the second half, however, and Chris Stern scored SVC's first, and only, goal at the 22:25 mark, with Dave Suski  being credited with the assist.  The Bearcats owned the play for much of the second frame, but the Colonials scored three more times with time winding down to pick up the non-conference victory.

9/19 vs. Urbana

The Bearcats rebounded from the heartbreaking loss against Geneva, defeating Urbana 2-0.

Senior Chris Stern opened the scoring up with just 55 seconds remaining in the first half, stealing an errant Blue Knight pass, dribbling past two defenders, and drilling the ball into the lower right corner of the net for his fourth goal on the young season.

Shea Simpson put the Bearcats up 2-0 midway through the second half off of a Dave Suski assist.

In a strong defensive effort, the Bearcats limited Urbana to just five shots on goal, with senior C.J. Cameron picking up his third shutout in goal.

9/17 @ Geneva

The Bearcats lost their American Mideast Conference opener to Geneva on the road, losing by a 3-2 score in overtime.

Geneva took a  1-0 lead into the half, but David Lauteri evened the score at 1 just four minutes into the second half off a pass from Dave Suski.

The game remained tied until there were just 3 minutes left in regulation.  Shea Simpson's corner kick was headed in by Suski to give the Bearcats a 2-1 advantage.  However, less than a minute later, Geneva scored to send the game into overtime.

Just over eight minutes into the overtime period, Geneva scored the game winner.

9/13 @ West Virginia Wesleyan

The Bearcats used their heads to defeat a tough West Virginia Wesleyan team on the road...both figuratively and literally.

Dave Suski scored on a header with 15 minutes remaining in the game to break a 1-1 tie and give the Bearcats the victory.  Scott Gross started the play with a pass to Mike Schreck, who crossed the ball in front of the net where Suski finished the play.

Earlier in the game, Bradd Picone's header off a pass from Shea Simpson on a set piece-play from the corner tallied the Bearcats' first goal.

Saint Vincent (4-2) also received solid play from goalkeeper C.J. Cameron.

9/10 @ Pitt-Greensburg

The Saint Vincent Bearcats scored a convincing 4-1 victory over crosstown rival Pitt-Greensburg on the road Saturday afternoon.

Dave Suski  tallied a goal and two assists.  David Lauteri contributed a goal and an assist, while senior goalkeeper CJ Cameron recorded the win in the net and a pair of assists.

After a slow start, Chris Stern started the scoring at the 40 minute mark of the first half, giving SVC a 1-0 lead at the break.

Eleven minutes into the second half, Lauteri found Suski, who collided with the opposing goalkeeper but managed to get to the ball and score the Bearcats' second goal.  Goalkeeper Cameron, who started the play with a punt from inside the box, was also credited with an assist.

Nine minutes later, UPG's Steve Forbrich nailed the upper-left corner of the net past Cameron to make it 2-1, but the Bearcats fought back.  With 11 minutes remaining in the game, Cameron again sent a punt to midfield, where Shea Simpson found Lauteri, who worked his way through the defense to score his third goal of the season.

Late in the game, Mark Mastriano sent a pass from the corner to Suski, who fed defender Scott Gross. Gross added his second goal of the season to make it a 4-1 game.

9/7 @ Salem Int'l

The Saint Vincent Bearcats dropped to 2-2 on the season with a loss on the road Wednesday. Salem International University defeated the Bearcats by a 2-1 margin, with SVC's only goal coming on a Shea Simpson penalty kick with five minutes remaining in the game. CJ Cameron took the loss in goal for the Bearcats.

9/3 @ Malone

The Bearcats rebounded with a 4-0 shutout over Malone College on the road.  Senior CJ Cameron recorded the win in the net and freshman David Lauteri scored his first two collegiate goals.

The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Scott Gross scored off a corner kick with help from Shea Simpson. After the break, Dave Suski made it 2-0, with help supplied by Mark Mastriano.

Lauteri scored the first of his goals off an assist from fellow freshman Ian Ramsay, then added a late goal to cap the victory.

9/2: SVC @ Walsh

The Bearcats suffered their first loss of the young season, bowing to Walsh 2-1. The lone Bearcat goal was scored by Chris Stern, who was assisted by Mike Schreck.

Walsh's game-winner was on a penalty kick with 18 minutes left in regulation. For the afternoon, SVC was only able to muster four shots on goal.

8/29 vs. Davis @ Elkins

The Davis & Elkins College Senators survived a driving rain throughout much of the season opening game in Latrobe, but they could not overcome the host Bearcats.

Saint Vincent dominated D&E much of the game en route to a 4-0 victory.

The teams played evenly for the first 15 minutes, before a foul inside the box led to a penalty kick goal by SVC's Chris Stern.  Later in the first half, defender Bradd Picone added another SVC goal to make it 2-0 at the halftime break.

In the second half, Shea Simpson found Dave Suski, the Bearcats' all-time leading goal-scorer, who drilled home the 41st goal of his career.  Mike Schreck closed the scoring, with an assist from Suski.

Senior Cal U transfer C.J. Cameron went the distance and recorded the shutout in the net.
