2003 Game Recaps

 

11/2: Saint Vincent ends season with win

The Bearcats, playing their second game in as many days, defeated their Ohio rivals by a 6-1 margin. 

Rick Seigh, a junior forward from Monroeville (Gateway HS) had two goals, as did freshman Matt Hanley (St. Joseph, MI).  Brian Bowers (Ridgway, PA/Ridgway HS) and Chris Stern (New Castle/Neshannock HS) also scored for Saint Vincent.

Assists were recorded by Scott Gross (2), Steve Davidovich (2), Bradd Picone, Shea Simpson and Bryan Poole.

The Saint Vincent men finish their season with a 7-10-1 record, 2-4-1 in the American Mideast Conference North Division.

 

11/1: Bearcats lose to ranked Houghton team

Houghton College, ranked #22 in the nation, defeated the Saint Vincent Bearcats in a close game, by the final score of 2-1.

"Our defense was outstanding," said Coach Keith Harmon.  "Brent White played an excellent game in goal, and our four defenders -- Bradd Picone, Scott Gross, Matt Hanley and Shea Simpson -- all played well.  The ball was in our end 80% of the game."

Chris Stern scored for Saint Vincent, assisted by Simpson and Rick Seigh.

 

10/29: SVC men defeat Slippery Rock

Saint Vincent won a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon on the road, defeating NCAA school Slippery Rock by the final score of 3-1.

Rick Seigh (Monroeville/Gateway HS) starred for the offense, scoring two goals and assisting on the team's third, which was scored by Nick Kozak.  Bryan Poole, Dave Suski and Mike Schreck also recorded assists.

Ian Poole (North Delta, BC) played a great game in goal, and was helped by excellent defense from Shea Simpson and Matt Hanley. 

 

10/18: Tough loss for Bearcats 

It took two overtimes to decide the winner of the Roberts Wesleyan/Saint Vincent men's game.  Roberts Wesleyan scored five minutes into the second overtime to garner the 3-2 victory. 

Bryan Poole scored the first SVC goal, assisted by Michael Schreck.  Nick Kozak added the second, assisted by Chris Stern and Rick Seigh. 

"We played hard, it was a tough one to lose," said Coach Keith Harmon.  "We had our opportunities, and they cashed in on theirs.  In the second overtime, we had three straight shots on goal.  One hit the post, the other two were blocked.  Still, our guys came back well from the game versus Geneva and played hard."

 

10/16: Geneva topples SVC men

Geneva College defeated the Saint Vincent men by a 3-1 margin in an American Mideast Conference North Division contest. 

Dave Suski scored the lone Saint Vincent goal, assisted by Rick Seigh and Chris Stern.  "They outplayed us," said a disappointed Coach Keith Harmon.  "They beat us to every ball.  I'm not saying we didn't play hard, but they played harder and deserved to win."

 

10/11: Bearcats defeat Seton Hill

Thanks to strong defensive efforts by defender Bradd Picone (freshman, Harrison City/Penn-Trafford HS) and goalie Brent White (junior, Mt. Pleasant/Mt. Pleasant HS), Saint Vincent defeated crosstown rival and fellow AMC North challenger Seton Hill University on Saturday afternoon in Latrobe.  The final score was 2-0.

Sophomore midfielder Chris Stern (New Castle/Neshannock HS) opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal for Saint Vincent.  Dave Suski (sophomore, Donora/Ringgold HS), the team's leading scorer, added a goal, assisted by Picone and Rick Seigh (junior, Monroeville/Gateway HS).

 

10/7:  SVC, Daemen reach 3-3 tie

The Bearcats and AMC North rival Daemen College fought to a 3-3 tie on Tuesday afternoon in Amherst, NY. 

Sophomore Dave Suski scored the hat trick for SVC.  Sophomore Chris Stern and freshman Nick Kozak (N. Huntington/Norwin HS) assisted on the first goal, while Rick Seigh recorded the assist on the second.  Suski's third goal of the day was unassisted.

Saint Vincent outshot Daemen 31-7 for the game, but the Daemen Wildcats made their shots count, resulting in the tie.  Teams received one point each in the conference standings for a tie.

 

10/4: SVC men lose to NDC
The Saint Vincent Bearcats dropped a 3-2 decision to Notre Dame College of Ohio on Saturday afternoon in a road game.

Scott Gross and Bryan Poole scored for Saint Vincent, with assists credited to Bradd Picone and Shea Simpson.

"We outplayed them in the second half," said Coach Keith Harmon.  "It was a good game.  We're young, and next year we'll win this kind of game."

 

9/30: Bearcats defeat D&E

The SVC men defeated Davis & Elkins College of West Virginia by a 3-1 margin.

Dave Suski, who entered the game fourth in scoring in the American Mideast Conference, had two goals, while defender Shea Simpson added the third Bearcat goal. Nick Kozak recorded the assist on Suski's first goal, while Rick Seigh and Chris Stern assisted the second.  Simpson's goal was unassisted.

 

9/27: Bearcats win divisional contest

The Bearcats of Saint Vincent opened AMC North Division play on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout against Point Park College. 

Brent White recorded the shutout in goal for the Bearcats.  Dave Suski scored two goals, while Rick Seigh added the third.

Assists were recorded by Bradd Picone, Jim Boland and Bryan Poole.

 

9/24: Comeback falls short against CMU

The Saint Vincent men's team lost a close decision to Carnegie Mellon University on Saint Vincent Field Wednesday afternoon by the final score of 3-2. The Bearcats trailed 3-1 at halftime but played a strong second half.  They cut the margin to a goal but could get no closer.

Sophomore Dave Suski scored both goals for Saint Vincent.  Mike Schreck and Chris Stern assisted on the first goal, while Scott Gross and Shea Simpson recorded assists on Suski's second goal.

 

9/21: Bearcats record tie

The Saint Vincent men played 110 minutes against the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown on Sunday...two 45 minute halves plus two 10-minute overtime periods, but neither team was able to put a ball in the net.  The final score was 0-0. 

The Bearcats dominated the field much of the day, outshooting UPJ 31-10 (14 on goal vs. 2 on goal), but the end result was a tie.

 

9/16: Suski scores 4 in Bearcat win

Ringgold graduate Dave Suski scored all four goals on Tuesday afternoon in the Bearcats' 4-1 non-conference victory over Lake Erie College.

Suski, a sophomore Communication major, had a career-game, thanks to assists from Rick Seigh (2), Bryan Poole (2), Nick Kozak and Chris Stern. 

 

9/9/03:  Suski header in OT gives Bearcats win

Sophomore Dave Suski scored on a header off a cross pass from freshman Bradd Picone to give the Saint Vincent men a 2-1 victory in overtime against AMC South rival Malone College on Tuesday afternoon. 

Suski's goal gave the Bearcats their first win of the season.  Freshman Nick Kozak also assisted on the play. 

Earlier in the game, defender Shea Simpson recorded the first Saint Vincent goal, with junior Mike Schreck recording the assist.

 

9/6/03:  SVC men lose hard-fought game to King College

The Saint Vincent men's soccer team concluded their two-game trip to Tennessee with a tough loss at the hands of King College on Saturday afternoon.

Thanks to a solid performance in goal by sophomore Ian Poole, the Bearcats stayed close throughout the first half, trailing 1-0 at the intermission.  King's other goal came in the second half on a penalty kick. 

The Bearcats received quality defensive performances from freshman Bradd Picone and sophomore Scott Gross.

 

9/5/03:  Milligan defeats SVC men, 5-2

The Saint Vincent men's soccer team opened a road trip in Tennessee with a 5-2 loss to Milligan College on Friday night. 

The Bearcats led 2-1 ten minutes into the second half, but were unable to hold the lead against a flurry of shots by Milligan in the final 35 minutes.

Junior Rick Seigh (Gateway HS) opened the scoring for the Bearcats, assisted by sophomore Chris Stern (Neshannock).  Mike Schreck (Cross Lanes, WV) added the Bearcats' other goal on a penalty kick. 

 

9/3/03:  Near miss for SVC men against Walsh

The Saint Vincent men lost a tough 1-0 contest against Walsh on Wednesday afternoon.  Freshman Matt Hanley (Lakeshore, MI HS) and sophomore Shea Simpson (Edmonds, WA) played solid defense for the Bearcats.

 

8/29/03:  Tough loss to Salem International University

The SVC men lost a tough game, 1-0, to the SIU men.  Both Brent White (Mt Pleasant HS) and Ian Poole (North Delta, BC HS) played well, sharing time in goal for the Bearcats.
