The Bearcats shut out Franciscan University 1-0 in the opening game of the Bethany College Kickoff Tournament. Saint Vincent got off to a slow start, as the Bearcats were out-shot 5-3 over the first 45 minutes, but sophomore goalie Jacob Gilbertson was up to the task, making a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless. The Bearcats increased their offensive pressure in the opening stages of the second half, with senior Ben Fecik scoring the eventual game winner in the 61st minute, picking off a pass at midfield and dribbling through a pair of defenders to cash in on the breakaway with the unassisted tally. For Fecik, it was his fourth goal in the past three games. Gilbertson and the Bearcat defense made the one-goal lead stand up down the stretch, as he made five saves over the final 40 minutes to earn the shut out win. SVC ended up with a 12-11 advantage in total shots, including a 9-6 margin in the second half. With the win, the Bearcats up their record to 2-3 on the year, and will be back in action again on Sunday afternoon, traveling down Route 30 to face the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg beginning at 4pm.
