2006-07 Meet Recaps

The SVC men lost the first-ever meet held at the Frank and Elizabeth Resnik Pool on the Latrobe campus.  West Virginia Wesleyan College was victorious by a score of 102-69.

Jon Okonak set a new school record, winning the 50-yard Freestyle in 22:49.  Dan Brett took top honors in the 1000 Freestyle, while Eric Clouse finished first in the 200 Fly. 

The Bearcat men defeated visiting Penn State-Altoona by a score of 125-77.

Josh Shrum, Jon Okonak and Jarrett Linck each picked up a pair of wins in individual events.  Shrum won the 500 and 1000 free, Okonak captured the 50 and 100 free, and Linck won the 100 and 200 breaststroke. 

Penn State-Behrend narrowly defeated the SVC men by a score of 97-84.

Josh Shrum took first place in the 1650 Free, while Jon Okonak remained undefeated this year in the 50 Free.

Second place finishes were recorded by Dan Brett (1650 Free), Nick LoPresto (200 IM), Eric Clouse (200 Fly), Jarrett Linck (200 Breast), and Okonak (100 Free). 

The Saint Vincent men split their tri-meet at Grove City, losing to the host school by a score of 69-52, but defeating Frostburg State, 57-50.

First place finishes were earned by Eric Clouse (100 & 200 Fly), Josh Shrum (500 & 1000 Free) and Jon Okonak (50 & 100 Free). 

Second place efforts were turned in by Nick LoPresto (100 & 200 Back, 200 IM), Jarrett Linck (100 & 200 Breast) and Dan Brett (500 Free).

The Bearcats lost to Mount Union College by a score of 142-110

Top performers for SVC included Josh Shrum's first place in the 1000 Free and Jon Okonak's victory in the 50 Free.  Jarrett Linck captured the 100 Breast, while Shrum finished second.

Second place finishes for SVC on the day were by Dan Brett in the 200 Free, Nick LoPresto in the 100 Back and 400 IM, Okonak in the 100 Free, Linck in the 200 Breast, Shrum in the 500 Free, and Eric Clouse in the 100 Fly.

The Bearcat men finished in fifth place among eight teams at the three-day College of Wooster Invitational.

The Bearcat men defeated Bethany at home by a score of 83-64.

Josh Shrum was a 2-time winner on the day as well, scoring in the 200 Freestyle and as part of the 200 Medley Relay team.  He was joined on that team by Jon Okonak and Greg Jackson, who also won individual events.  Okonak also won the 50 Free, while Jackson won the 100 Backstroke

The Westminster Titans overpowered the Bearcats, sending the visiting SVC team to a 145-94 defeat.

Jon Okonak earned a victory for SVC in the 50 Freestyle, winning in 23.10.  Nick LoPresto finished second in the 200 Breaststroke.

Washington & Jefferson College defeated SVC by a score of 135-68.

Jon Okonak recorded first place finishes in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle, while Eric Clouse was first inteh 100 Fly and second in the 200 Free.

Dan Brett took a pair of seconds, in the 500 and 1000 Free, while Nick LoPresto was second in both the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke.

The 200 Medley Relay team of LoPresto, Josh Shrum, Clouse and Okonak finished second.

Fairmont State defeated the visiting Bearcats by a score of 121-101.

Eric Clouse won the 50 Freestyle in 24:02, then captured the 200 IM in 2:11.75.  Jon Okonak was first in the 100 Free (51:24) then took second in both the 200 Free and 100 Fly.

Other second place finishes were recorded by Josh Shrum (1000 Free), Greg Jackson (100 & 200 Back), Nick LoPresto (200 IM) Kyle Kuklewski (50 Free), the 400 Medley Relay team of Clouse, Shrum, Dan Brett and Mike Azzarello, and the 400 Free team of Okonak, Shrum, Brett and Clouse.

Saint Vincent finished 5th at Grove City Invitational with 200 points.  The Bearcats were led by sophomores Jon Okonak who set new school records in the 50 and 100 freestyle, 22.36 and 48.63, and Eric Clouse setting a new school record in the 100 Fly with a time of 53.57. 

Okonak and Clouse teamed with fellow sophomores Kyle Kuklewski and Greg Jackson to set a new school record in the 200 Free Relay and joined Dan Brett and Josh Shrum setting a new mark for the 800 Free relay. The distance duo of Shrum and Brett got things rolling on day one of  the three day meet by placing 12 and 13.  Clouse finished the day with a 12th place in the 200 IM.  Okonak placed 13th in the 50 as well.  The day ended with the 400 Medley Relay team of Jackson, LoPresto, Azzarello, and Brett taking 6th.

The distance swimmers continued to shine in day two with Shrum placing 9th and Brett right behind him in 10th.  LoPresto and Azzarello finished the 400 IM in 11th and 12th places LoPresto also finished 12th in the 100 Breast.  Okonak and Clouse both swam the 100 Fly.  Clouse placed 6th while Okonak took 15th.  Both the 200 Medley (LoPresto, Shrum, Clouse, Okonak) and 800 Free Relay took 5th.  In the final day of competition Shrum and Brett placed 7th and 10th, respectively, in the 1650. 

Clouse swam to a personal best mark in the 200 Back placing 14th and Okonak placed 12th in the 100 Free. The 400 Free Relay of Okonak, Brett, Shrum, Clouse finished the competition with a 6th place finish.
