Despite being close in several matches, the Bearcats fell to visiting Notre Dame College (OH) by a score of 7-2.

Paul DiVincenzo was a two-time winner on the day in both singles and doubles.  He eased to victoryi n the #6 singles spot with scores of 6-1 and 6-2, then teamed with Chad Meholic in the #3 doubles position and pulled out a close victory, 8-6.  In that match, Meholic came up with several skillful shots to help the pair earn the win.

In other doubles action, Zac Parkhill and Steve Filipiak faced a dominant team in the #1 position.  Despite a hard fought effort, they fell by a score of 8-2.

Troy Smith and Carl Rovnak nearly pulled off a giant comeback in the #2 doubles match.  After falling behind 7-1 early, the duo gained momentum and battled back, winning five straight games to make it 7-6.  Unfortunately, they were unable to come up with another win and lost 8-6.

Three singles matches also proved to be close losses.  Smith (#3) and Stefan Genzor (#5) both had to go to the third set tie-breaker, while Filipiak (#4) had his match go to a tie-breaker in the second set.

Genzor's match went down to the wire.   He played well in the first set but fell short, 7-5.  In the second, he rebounded with impressive play to win, 6-3.  For the third set, a super tie-breaker to 10 points was played.  Both rivals played well, and Genzor was using his height to his advantage to smash overheads and win crucial points.  The match went the distance, with the NDC player coming out ahead, 11-9.

Smith's match was equally intense.  In the first set, he was very competitive, winning 6-4.  In the second set, Smith fell behind early and could not catch up, losing 6-2.  In the third set super tie-breaker, Smith fell behind early, 3-1.  He won the next two points to tie the intense match, but ended up falling 10-4.

Filipiak lost his first set 6-1, but battled back to take the send the second set to a tie-breaker, which also went to the wire before Filipiak lost by a tally of 8-6.

Saint Vincent (3-5) is back in action on March 27, hosting Washington & Jefferson College at the Greensburg Racquet Club at 3PM.
