SVC Men's Track
4/1 - Western PA Championships

Saint Vincent College finished 9th among 15 schools in the Western Pennsylvania Championships, held at Carnegie Mellon University, despite competing in only a handful of the 20 events.

Senior Matt Robson set a meet record, winning the 10,000-meter run in a time of 32:21, beating the previous mark of 32:40 set a year ago.

Adam Smith also posted a top-ten finish, taking 5th in the 5000 meter run, timed in 15:22, while Albert Oduho finished 9th in the 800 meter run, timed in 2:01.14.

Also on Saturday, several members of the SVC team were in action at the Westminster Invitational.  Marc Duncan finished 10th in the 100 meter dash, timed in 11.97.

4/7 - Geneva

The Saint Vincent men’s track team finished 4th out of 6 schools at the Merriman Butler Invitational meet, which was held at Geneva College.

Wayne Hooper finished 2nd in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.14, and the Saint Vincent B team finished 2nd in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 8:15.34. Aaron Conway added a 3rd place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:24.16, and the Saint Vincent B team finished 3rd in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 3:35.04.

Saint Vincent entered two teams in the 1600 meter relay. Saint Vincent’s B Team (Shane Anderton, Alex Krupey, Albert Oduho, and Nick Stelitano) finished 3rd in 3:35.04, while Saint Vincent’s A team (Aaron Conway, Wayne Hooper, Dan Luther, and Eamon McDonough) finished 4th in 3:37.36.

Saint Vincent entered two teams in the 3200 meter relay. Saint Vincent’s B Team (Shane Anderton, Alex Krupey, Albert Oduho, and Nick Stelitano) finished second in 8:15.34, while Saint Vincent’s A team (Aaron Conway, Wayne Hooper, Steve Leuschel, and Eamon McDonough) finished fourth in 8:24.37.

In the 400 meters, Dan Luther finished 6th in 52.71, Alex Krupey was 8th in 54.24, and Eamon McDonough was ninth in 56.67.

In the 800 meters, Wayne Hooper finished second in 1:58.14 and Shane Anderton was sixth in 2:06.19.

In the 1500 meters, Aaron Conway finished third in 4:24.16, Albert Oduho was 6th in 4:27.08, Nick Stelitano was 8th in 4:36.49 and Steve Leuschel was 11th in 5:14.51.

In the 5000 meters, Bill Fischer finished sixth in 17:28.51 and Chris Wright was seventh in 17:53.55.

4/21 - AMC Championships

The Saint Vincent men finished seventh in the American Mideast Conference Championships, held at Cedarville University in Ohio.

Saint Vincent was 7th out of 10 teams, despite competing in only 7 of 22 events.

Matt Robson set a track record, winning the 10,000 meters in 31:47.75.  He finished just ahead of teammate Adam Smith, who also beat the previous track standard with a time of 31:49.15.

5/25 - NAIA Nationals

Five members of the men’s track team competed in the NAIA Track and Field National Championships held at Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, CA on May 25-27. Men’s Head Cross Country and Track Coach Andy Herr took freshman Adam Smith, juniors Nate Sylvester, Thaddeus Pajak, and Pat Hauser and 2006 graduate Matt Robson to compete against the nation's top track athletes in California.

Robson and Smith both competed in the 10,000 meter run on Thursday, May 25. Robson qualified for the 10,000 at the American Mideast Conference Championships that were held at Cedarville University on April 21-22. Robson made the A Standard of 31 minutes and 50 seconds by coming in first at the AMC Championships with a time of 31 minutes and 47 seconds. Smith also made the A Standard at the AMC Championships by coming in second behind Robson with a time of 31 minutes and 49 seconds. Both times were track records at Cedarville University’s track. Smith also qualified in the 5,000 meter run by making the B Standard of 15 minutes and 12 seconds at the Bison Outdoor Classic held at Bucknell University on April 14. Smith came in 31st place among the extremely competitive field with a time of 15 minutes and 0 seconds. Smith chose to concentrate on the 10,000 meter run at the NAIA Championships and to not compete in the 5,000 meter run.

Smith placed 17th in the nation in the 10,000 meter run at Fresno Pacific University with a time of 32 minutes and 19 seconds. Robson completed his extraordinary collegiate running career by placing 20th in the nation with a time of 32 minutes and 32 seconds.

Sylvester, Pajak, and Hauser competed in the marathon on Saturday, May 27. All three of the marathoners qualified at the Cook Forest Half Marathon outside of Clarion, PA on April 2. Sylvester placed first at the race by completing the 13.1 mile course in 1 hour, 14 minutes, and 25 seconds, which met the A Standard of 1 hour and 15 minutes. Pajak placed second and made the B Standard of 1 hour and 17 minutes with a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 40 seconds. Hauser made the B Standard to the second by placing fifth with a time of 1 hour and 17 seconds.

Sylvester placed 12th in the Marathon by covering the 26.2 mile course in 2 hours, 38 minutes, and 49 seconds; Pajak placed 18th with a time of 2 hours, 42 minutes, and 43 seconds; and Hauser placed 35th with a time of 2 hours, 56 minutes, and 39 seconds. The course started on the track at Fresno Pacific University, took the Saint Vincent Harriers through the neighborhoods of sunny California, and ended back at the track. All three of the Saint Vincent runners qualified for the Boston Marathon by shattering the qualifying time of 3 hours and 10 minutes.
