The Bearcats had a strong start to the 2008 season, participating in the Western PA Championships at Carnegie Mellon University.

Three Saint Vincent College records were broken on the day, while two Bearcat runners qualified for the 2008 ECAC Championships and five qualified to participate in the Bucknell Invitational later this season.

With a time of 15.74 in the 110m hurdles, Scott Steele finished in fourth place, setting a school record while qualifying for the ECAC's.

Wayne Hooper finished in second place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:04.14, earning a spot in the SVC record books while qualifying for Bucknell.  In the 5K run, Adam Smith took second with a time of 15:07.40, qualifying for the ECAC's and Bucknell.

The Bearcat 1600m relay team of Shane Anderton, Craig Anderton, Alex Krupey, and Hooper finished with a school-record time of 3:31.43, good for third place.

Shane and Craig Anderton also turned in strong performances in the 800m run, with times of 1:59.60 and 2:02.20, respectively, both qualifying for Bucknell.

As a team, SVC finished the day in ninth place out of 15 teams, with a score of 34, despite having no participants in any jumping, throwing, or sprinting events.  Carnegie Mellon took the overall championship with a score of 151.
