Adam Smith won the collegiate division of the 5000 meters at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University, becoming the first-ever Bearcat runner to break the 15:00 mark, timed in 14:55.18. Smith captured first among 79 runners, from all three NCAA divisions.
In the 110 meter high hurdles, Scott Steel lowered his own school record for the second time this season, finishing in 15.41 seconds. Alex Krupey also lowered his own school record in the 400 meters, running a 52.06. Wayne Hooper ran a 1:55.82 and Craig Anderton a 1:56.21 in the 800 meters, finishing 11th and 15th, respectively, out of a field of 90 competitors. Shane Anderton took 57th in the same event, finishing with a time of 2:00.25, a personal best. In the 3200 meter relay, the Bearcat foursome of Craig Anderton, Alex Krupey, Wayne Hooper, and Shane Anderton finished third in a field of nine teams with a tme of 7:54.02, just one-tenth of a second off the school record. Only Division-I squads Bucknell and Duquesne finished ahead of SVC.
"Any time an athletes from Saint Vincent finishes in the top half of the competitors in a meet like this is quite an accomplishment," said SVC head coach Dr. Andrew Herr.
