Saint Vincent College junior political science and business management major Taylor Berinti will be among the 54 young women competing from across the state for the title of Miss Pennsylvania USA this weekend at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Pittsburgh, the official preliminary to the Miss USA Pageant.

Ms. Berinti, 21, said she has been preparing for the competition since she was accepted in July by working out daily, eating healthy and practicing her presentation skills at every opportunity. “This is a great opportunity for me to make professional contacts for my future career and to improve my public speaking,” she noted.

A newcomer to pageants, she was invited to enter the competition by Kaitlyn Pieri, a 2011 Saint Vincent College graduate who works in the state pageant office. “I had really never considered entering,” Ms. Berinti said, “but I thought it would be a learning experience and a lot of fun.”

“I think that having to think on my feet in mock trial competitions has really prepared me well for this,” she continued. “Responding to questions that you can’t predict is a real challenge. I know that I will grow from this experience no matter how I do. At Saint Vincent I have had an opportunity to try a lot of new things both in and outside the classroom.”

The daughter of Antoinette (“my mom is my mentor and role model”) and Brian Berinti of Bethel Park, she is a 2009 graduate of Bethel Park Senior High School.

At Saint Vincent, she has been active as president of the Pre-Law Society, secretary of the Aurelius Scholars, and a member of the Mock Trial Team. She has been honored as an outstanding student by Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. She has also been active as a volunteer serving during the summer with autistic children at the Watson Institute.

Ms. Berinti has two part-time jobs on campus working with the SAP Business I Program and serving as student coordinator for the Center for Political and Economic Thought lecture series. Off campus, she has done work as a promotional representative for Wilston Promotions in the Chevrolet tent at Steelers games and will be working at the Justice Children’s Clothing store at South Hills Village during the Christmas holiday.

After her graduation in May 2013, she plans to pursue an internship with a value added reseller of SAP Business I in either California or Florida and to eventually attend law school.

She is a member of Holy Angels R.C. Church in Hays (Diocese of Pittsburgh).
