Registration begins February 1 for nearly 100 undergraduate and graduate-level credit courses in all major academic areas during Saint Vincent College summer sessions beginning May 21.
Undergraduate courses are being offered in art, business administration, chemistry, economics, education, English, environmental science, history, mathematics, music, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, sociology, Spanish and theology. Graduate courses are being offered in business, education and the health sciences.
The schedule includes two six-week options (May 21 to June 28 and July 2 to Aug. 9) and four 3-week options (May 21 to June 7, June 11 to 28, July 2-19, and July 23 to August 9). Some courses are scheduled consecutively so that students can enroll in both parts of two-semester courses, thus completing the equivalent of a year's study of a course in six to 12 weeks. There are also other courses with special scheduling.
Among the summer’s 85 offerings are undergraduate courses in Rock n Roll Criticism (English), Horses, Hardtack and Heroes (History), Ways of Modern China (History), Boxing Mind and Culture (Psychology), and Catholic Bioethics (Theology). The graduate courses include Marketing Strategy (Business), Health Care Law, Policy and Regulation (Business), Creative Programs for Children (Education), and Medical Physics (Health Sciences).
Area residents who attend other colleges and universities may enroll in Saint Vincent summer session courses. Credits earned at Saint Vincent may be transferred according to the policy of the student's school. Most Saint Vincent summer courses are also open to other persons without current academic affiliation.
On-campus housing is available in college residence halls for the upcoming summer sessions. Meals are available in the college dining hall. Summer students have access to Saint Vincent College’s outstanding educational and recreational facilities including the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion, Latimer Library, Fred M. Rogers Center, computer laboratories, lounges, study center, fitness center, swimming pool, gymnasium, as well as the outdoor fitness trail and playing fields on campus and a host of recreational opportunities throughout the Laurel Highlands region.
Area high school students may register for undergraduate summer session courses for which they feel capable and can fulfill prerequisite requirements. This opportunity is designed to give students the experience of taking a course on the college level to help ease the transition from high school to college. College credit is granted which may be applied toward a degree at Saint Vincent or at most other colleges and universities. A note of authorization from the student's guidance counselor is required for course registration. A half-tuition scholarship is available to students still in high school. A tuition reduction scholarship will also be offered to all college graduates. Persons 30 to 64 years of age may audit any course for one-half the regular tuition charge; course audit is free (except for registration fee) for persons 65 years of age and over.
Students currently enrolled at Saint Vincent may register via the Web Information System for summer courses. Other students may register by mail (Office of the Registrar, Saint Vincent College, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe, PA 15650-2690), by FAX (724 805-2063), or in person (Office of the Registrar, first floor, Alfred Hall, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily).
