DR. MICHAEL GORMAN TO PRESENT THEOLOGY LECTURE

Dr. Michael J. Gorman, dean of the Ecumenical Institute of Theology at St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, will deliver the third presentation in the ongoing First Theology Lecture Series sponsored by the Saint Vincent College Department of Theology in the School of Humanities and Fine Arts at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15 in the Performing Arts Center of the Robert S. Carey Student Center. His talk is titled, “Cruciform Justice in I Corinthians.” Admission is free and open to the public.

Dr. Gorman has taught at the Institute for more than 20 years. He is also professor of sacred scripture at St. Mary’s where he holds a joint appointment. In June he will leave the dean’s position and become the first occupant of St. Mary’s new Raymond E. Brown Chair in Biblical Studies and Theology.

He earned his master of divinity degree and Ph.D. in New Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary. He is the author or editor of ten books and numerous articles on Biblical interpretation and on ethics, including four books on the apostle Paul. He has led four trips to the cities of Paul and John in Greece and Turkey. Dr. Gorman has taught for many years in the deacon formation program of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and he has also taught courses at Princeton Theological Seminary, Wesley Theological Seminary and Duke Divinity School, as well as at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Seminary in Cameroon, West Africa.

A native of Anne Arundel County in Maryland, Dr. Gorman lives in Odenton, Maryland with his wife. They have three adult children. He is an active lay member in the United Methodist church and a frequent teacher and speaker in churches and institutions of higher education of many traditions.
