'Home Stretch to Retirement' Second Presentation in SVC Personal Financial Planning Series April 4

“The Home Stretch to Retirement” will be the topic of Susan B. Garland of Kiplinger’s Retirement Report in the next presentation in the fifth annual Personal Financial Planning Lecture Series presented by the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4 in the Fred M. Rogers Center on the campus of Saint Vincent College.

Moderator will be Mark Abramovic, instructor of finance and executive director of the Series.

Garland is editor of Kiplinger’s Retirement Report, a monthly personal finance publication whose subscribers are retirees and those approaching retirement. The publication covers all topics related to retirement, including taxes, Social Security, pensions, investments, personal money management, annuities, estate planning, health care, workplace issues and leisure activities. Garland has been editor of the publication since 2006.

Before joining Kiplinger’s, Garland was a Washington-based correspondent for Business Week magazine for 12 years. While on the social policy beat, she covered benefits, pensions, retirement issues, health care and workplace issues. As a White House and national politics reporter, she covered the first term of the Clinton administration. While on the legal affairs beat, she wrote about the U.S. Justice Department’s antitrust investigation of Microsoft and the subsequent federal trial. Garland has also been a freelance writer, and her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Business Week, Modern Maturity (now AARP Magazine) and other publications.

Garland has appeared on the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, CNBC, AART’s Inside E Street, the Nightly Business Report, Retirement Living TV, Fox News, Court TV, WUSA9-TV in Washington, D.C. and WGN-TV in Chicago.

She is a graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. She lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with her husband, James Feldesman, an attorney.

The series is a special public education series on current personal financial issues and concerns sponsored by the Saint Vincent College Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government.
