A new job shadowing program in the Saint Vincent College Department of Information Services got underway this Spring and on April 19 Chelsea Zamborsky, left, 17, a junior at Jeannette High School, spent part of her day shadowing John Sharbaugh, right, service desk analyst, and other administrators in computing services including network operations, service desk operation and website management. Sharbaugh showed Zamborsky the procedure for removing the hard drive from a computer, placing it in a docking station and copying the files onto a data disk that could be read by users who had received new computers. He also showed her how to add RAM to a computer. Zamborsky said she thought the shadowing program offered an excellent opportunity for her to learn more about a career in computing and to begin to determine what areas she might want to study in college as a computing and information science or software engineering major. The shadowing program is open to students from any high school in Westmoreland County considering a career in information services. Further information is available by contacting Peter E. Mahoney, chief information officer, at 724-805-2241. Mr. Mahoney and his staff are responsible for the planning and operation of all academic and administrative computing services at Saint Vincent including hardware and software installation and maintenance, computer network and databases.
