A lecture on the history of quilting and a brunch, titled “Quilted Wares and Breakfast Fare,” will be offered at the Foster and Muriel McCarl Coverlet Gallery at Saint Vincent College from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.
Participants will have an opportunity to hear a presentation of the history of quilting presented by Patti Peer.
The show will be an exhibit of antique and new quilts, antique coverlets, vintage linens and items made out of old quilts.
The event includes the quilt lecture, a tour of the McCarl Coverlet Gallery and a seated brunch featuring assorted pastries, scrambled eggs, home fried potatoes, Belgian waffles with assorted toppings, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit wedges, penne pasta with feta cheese and tomato and coffee, hot tea and juice.
Cost of the lecture, tour and brunch is $32 per person, payable with required registration in advance. Because of limited seating, early reservations are advised.
The McCarl Coverlet Gallery opened in 2008 and houses the lifetime collection of handmade American Jacquard woven coverlets of the late Foster and Muriel McCarl of Beaver Falls, which were a permanent gift to Saint Vincent College. Public exhibits of selections from the collection are shown throughout the year.
