Three SVC Students to Sing with Pittsburgh Symphony All-Star Chorus

Three Saint Vincent College vocal performance majors will be among the 40 Pittsburgh area college students selected to perform with the 2013 Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s All-Star College Chorus directed by Robert Page and Chris Hestwood at Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts, 600 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.

Selected to perform are, from left, Javier Ferrer, a junior from Miami, Fla., Rona Gehring, a junior from Robinson and Margaret Jumoville, a continuing education student from Baton Rouge, La. They are all students of Thomas Octave, assistant professor of fine arts.

The All-Star Chorus is part of the PSO’s Broadway and Beyond performance with Brian Stokes Mitchell, a Tony Award-winner for his performance in Kiss Me Kate who will perform songs from classic Broadway musicals.

This performance, directed by Ted Sperling, will mark the first by the All-Star College Chorus since the death of Principal PSO Pops Conductor Marvin Hamlisch. Mitchell’s performance is made possible, in part, by the Marvin Hamlisch Pops Artistic Excellence Fund.
