Opera Workshop Plans Concert Dec. 9

Saint Vincent College Opera Workshop will present a concert of arias and scenes at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, in the Performing Arts Center of the Robert S. Carey Student Center. Admission is free and open to the public.

The concert is entitled Magic Moments: Scenes from The Magic Flute and other operas, and will include performances of enchanting operatic music including two famous arias from W. A. Mozart’s fantasy opera, The Magic Flute.

Students will also present the romantic love duet from Gounod’s Romeo et Juliet, a captivatingly serene trio from Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and arias from Le Nozze di Figaro, Louise and My Fair Lady.

The student performers include Chantal Braziel, a junior music performance major from Pittsburgh (15235); Javier Ferrer, a sophomore music performance major from Miami, Fla.; Rona Gehring, a junior music major from Robinson; Edward Graybill, a sophomore music performance major from Pittsburgh (15215); Margaret Jumonville, a continuing education student from Greensburg; Abigail Sugrue, a sophomore music major from Export; and Hannah Wojtowicz, a sophomore music performance major from Pittsburgh (15227).

The production is directed by Ms. Colleen Reilly, assistant professor of fine arts and director of theatre. Vocal coaching was provided by Ms. Susanna Lemberskaya, lecturer in music. Thomas Octave, assistant professor of music, will be the conductor.

The production is made possible by grants from the Robertshaw Charitable Foundation of Greensburg and the Marilyn K. Kiefer Foundation of Scottdale.
