SVC Center for Political Thought to Present Program on Super Committee

Saint Vincent College Center for Political and Economic Thought, in cooperation with the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government, will present Dr. J.D. Foster at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 16 in the Fred M. Rogers Center on the campus of Saint Vincent College. His talk is entitled, The Trials of Congress’ Misnamed ‘Super Committee.’

Dr. Foster is the Norman B. Ture Senior Fellow in the Economics of Fiscal Policy at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. He formerly served as associate director for economic policy at the White House’s Office of Management and Budget. He also worked as senior advisor in economics at the department’s office of tax policy, advising the assistant secretary on issues concerning the 2011 tax cut, the 2001 stimulus bill, reform of the tax expenditure presentation in the president’s budget, simplification, and options for tax reform. Dr. Foster has also worked on Capitol Hill. He was the legislative director for Rep. Philip M. Crane, then vice chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Formerly, he was the executive director and chief economist at the Tax Foundation. He served as chief of staff to chairman Michael Boskin at the President’s Council of Economic Advisors at the White House. Dr. Foster received his Ph.D. in economics from Georgetown University.
