A chess set made out of light bulbs by Ben Schachter, associate professor of fine arts at Saint Vincent College, recently appeared in a video on the New York Times website.

The video is a review of an exhibition of the Lewis chess set at the Cloisters museum in New York City. Discovered in Scotland more than 800 years ago, the Lewis chess set, featured in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, is now on display. At the end of the video, there are a few brief shots of other unusual contemporary chess sets including one crafted by Mr. Schachter. He is credited at the end of the video.

The Cloisters museum and gardens, the branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe, was assembled from architectural elements, both domestic and religious, that date from the twelfth through the fifteenth century.
