TWO MUSIC STUDENTS TO PERFORM IN PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY POPS CONCERT

Two Saint Vincent College vocal performance music majors will perform as members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops All-Star College Choir at Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts in Pittsburgh this weekend.

Rona Gehring, a freshman from Robinson, and Ashlee Lamar, a freshman from Indiana, will perform in the 70-member choir directed by noted conductor Marvin Hamlisch. The program includes classic movie selections including Laura, The Trolley Song, The Way We Were and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. They were selected for participation by Thomas Octave, assistant professor of fine arts and chair of the music department at Saint Vincent.

Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, January 27 and 28, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 29.

Ms. Gehring, a 2011 graduate of United High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gehring of Robinson. Ms. Lamar, a 2011 graduate of Indiana Area High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Lamar of Indiana. Both students are active at Saint Vincent as members of the Gilbert and Sullivan Players, The Company student theatre group, SVC Singers and in other music department performances.

Ms. Gehring is a member of the United Methodist Evangelical Church in Robinson. Ms. Lamar is a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Indiana.
