Saint Vincent College senior forward Brittany Sedlock has been named a 2011-12 Capital One Division III First-Team Academic All-American, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Sedlock, a native of Northern Cambria, Pa., and a graduate of Northern Cambria High School, becomes the first Bearcat to be named Academic All-America by CoSIDA since the schools' transition to NCAA Division III. She had twice been named Academic All-District (2010-11, 2011-12).

The defending-Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Sedlock leads the league with 16.3 points and a career-high 9.6 rebounds per game. A four-year starter, she also ranks first in the conference in free-throw percentage, .819, and is among the league leaders in most statistical categories.

Earlier this season at Messiah (Pa.), she became the 23rd player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career and currently ranks ninth in program history with 1,386 points.

In the classroom, the 5-9 senior boasts a 4.0 grade-point average while working toward her degree in mathematics with a minor in education. She has been selected to the Dean's List in each semester at Saint Vincent as well as being a three-time PAC Academic Honor Roll member.

To be eligible for the award, voted on by Sports Information Directors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games and be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic and academic credentials.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
