A team of four students from Greensburg Central Catholic High School were the winners of the 2012 Pasta Engineering Contest sponsored by Carbone’s Restaurant of Crabtree and the Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Computing, held at the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion on March 5. Teams from nine area high schools competed in the sixth annual competition in which students constructed miniature bridges made out of uncooked pasta and glue. Vincent Mangini, left, of Carbone’s, and Br. Norman W. Hipps, O.S.B., right, president of Saint Vincent College, presented the first place trophy to, from left, Claire Gongaware, Devon Nguyen, Abigail Evangeliste and Rosemary Tritschler. The competition is designed to increase high school students’ awareness about the role engineering plays in their lives, learn about career opportunities in the field and provide an opportunity to collaborate on design and construction.
