Saint Vincent College Small Business Development Center will host two free workshops for business owners who are interested in learning about contracting opportunities with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 19.
The morning workshop, “Doing Business with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Following lunch on your own, “Certification Made Simple” will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m.
Presented by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, the main purchasing branch of the state government, the morning workshop will include how the state purchases goods and services, finding and bidding on state contracts, finding state business opportunities and state programs that are available to help small businesses make use of contracting and subcontracting opportunities.
A special segment will also be presented on obtaining certification as a minority-owned and women-owned business.
The afternoon workshop, “Certification Made Simple,” is a hands-on, interactive, step-by-step walk-through of the certification application. Owners of businesses planning to do government contracting are urged to attend both. Participants may register for one or both workshops. Registration is required.
These workshops are co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Minority and Women Business Opportunities, a part of the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, whose main functions are to certify minority-owned businesses and to help small businesses become involved in state contracting. Additional co-sponsors are the Private Industry Council, e-Magnify,and DPAC.
