Recent Saint Vincent College graduate Megan Matich of Uniontown (class of ’11) was accepted to the master of fine arts program in creative writing -- poetry at Columbia University in New York.

She has received a $25,000 yearly fellowship to attend. The MFA is the terminal degree in the field of creative writing, and it would enable her to go on to teach at the college level when she graduates.

Ms. Matich will be one of 14 to 18 other first-year graduate students in the highly competitive program. In addition to her creative writing coursework, she will be studying Russian and Slovak, while continuing her studies of German. The poetry program has a literary translation component, which is another of her professional interests.

Ms. Matich plans to take advantage of the program’s opportunities for travel. Also, she plans to apply to the University’s Leipzig program, a translation exchange with a student from the University of Leipzig.

She has published poems in The Drunken Boat and Architrave Press. Her parents are Michael and Sharon Matich of Uniontown.
