Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve at Saint Vincent College will offer two nature camps for children during the month of July.
Five-year-old children (accompanied by an adult) may attend Bug Camp from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday, July 24 to Thursday, July 26. They will have an opportunity to “go buggy” along the tall grasses, along the trails or among the cattails in the pond searching for butterflies, spiders, ants, dragonflies, bees, beetles and other insects native to the Reserve. Hands-on investigations, games and mini-labs will take children on a nature adventure within the 50-acre site. Each camper will receive a mini insect investigation kit. Registration ($50) is required and is limited to 25 children who must be age 5 by July 9.
Children ages 6 and 7 may register for Fuzzy-Feather Camp from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, July 9 to Friday, July 13. Campers will enjoy a week of nature adventure as they explore the world of mammals and birds as they learn about song birds and birds of prey native to Pennsylvania. They will also discover mammals native to the region. Each day campers will explore “feathered and furry friends” which occupy the Reserve. Each camper will receive a mini nature explorer kit. Registration ($125) is required and is limited to 25 children who must be age 6 by July 9.
Registration deadline is Friday, June 15 and may be completed online at www.wpnr.org. For questions or further information, contact the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve at 724 537-5284.
