Saint Vincent Summer Theatre will present Michael McKeever’s Suite Surrender, a farce harkening back to the glorious comedies of the 30s and 40s, from June 14 to 30.

Colleen Reilly will direct the production. “This is a zany delight,” Ms. Reilly commented “The time is 1942 and the place is Palm Beach’s luxurious Royale Hotel, about to play host to a star-studded USO benefit. The only problem? The benefit’s headliners are two Hollywood divas, who can’t stand the sight of each other; their long-standing feud is the stuff of tinsel town legend. When they are accidentally assigned to the same hotel suite, chaos seems sure to follow. Their long-suffering assistants must conspire with the hotel’s resourceful staff to keep the two grande dames from ever encountering each other. The result is a frothy blend of mistaken identities, witty wordplay, charming romance and riotous slapstick.”

The show welcomes three new actors to the Saint Vincent stage: Maggie Carr who will play Murphy Stevens, Matt Henderson who will play the part of Otis, and Brian Knoebel who portrays Francis.

Ms. Carr, a graduate of Point Park University’s Conservatory, has appeared with The Rep at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Black and White Theatre Company, and with Carrnivale Theatrics.

Mr. Henderson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre performance from Seton Hill University. In addition to university productions, he has performed with Prime Stage Theatre, City Theatre Company, Off the Wall Productions, Bricolage Production Company and Stage Right.

Mr. Knoebel also studied at Point Park before pursuing the stages at The Rep, Carrnivale Theatrics, Prime State Theatre, Pittsburgh Playhouse, Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre, North Hills Theatre and Paragon Studios. He has also done some commercials including one for the West Virginia Lottery.

Returning veterans include David Cabot (Bernard S. Dunlap), Renata Marino (Claudia McFadden), Karen Baum (Athena Sinclair), Kevin Daniel O’Leary (Mr. Pippet), Patricia Reilly (Dora Del Rio), and Cary Anne Spear (Mrs. Everett P. Osgood).

A preview performance is scheduled at 8:10 p.m. Thursday, June 14. Performances are set for 8:10 p.m. June 15-16, 19-23, and 26-30. Matinees are scheduled for 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 and Sunday, June 24.

Saint Vincent Summer Theatre patrons are asked to make ticket reservations in advance because seats are reserved at all performances except Thursday evening preview shows, which are general admission. Reservations may be made by calling the theater box office at 724 537-8900. Customers may also make reservations online at www.svst.org. A credit card is required for on-line reservations, and such reservations are transferable, but non-refundable.

Saint Vincent Summer Theatre performances are all scheduled in the comfortable, air-conditioned Performing Arts Center of the Robert S. Carey Student Center on the Saint Vincent College campus. Free van shuttle service is provided to and from the spacious and convenient parking areas adjacent to the Saint Vincent Basilica.

Saint Vincent Summer Theatre will continue to feature its well-known cabaret, the special after-the-show party to which all theatre patrons are invited. Saint Vincent students serve snacks, hot dogs and beverages after the production and also provide entertainment. The cabaret is open after all performances except Thursday preview shows and all matinees. Theatre officials encourage donations if patrons enjoy themselves at the after-the-show party.

Upcoming productions include The Foreigner, July 5 to 21 and The Chief, July 26 to August 19. The 23rd annual Saint Vincent Summer Theatre Gala will be held Friday, July 13. All proceeds benefit the Saint Vincent Summer Theatre.
