The Step-Up Enrichment Program at Saint Vincent College recently hosted a workshop for home-schooled students and their parents at the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve. The workshop was presented by local authors Patricia and Richard Easton.

Both of the Eastons are on the faculty of Washington and Jefferson College. In addition to her contemporary fiction books, Patricia Easton has written Davey’s Blue-eyed Frog, which was the winner of the 2006 Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award. She is also the Regional Advisor for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators for the western Pennsylvania region. Richard Easton’s book, A Real American, is historical fiction and offers insight into many aspects of local history in this area of Pennsylvania.

The Step-Up Enrichment Program offers enrichment classes to home-schooled students in Grades Pre-K to 12. The courses are taught by Saint Vincent students who are enrolled in the teacher certification program. For more information about the Step-Up Program, contact Mrs. Wanda Reynolds, program coordinator at 724-805-2944.
