Dr. Dawn Edmiston, assistant professor of management and marketing at Saint Vincent College, has won the 2012 Middle Atlantic Association of Colleges of Business Administration (MAACBA) Innovation in Teaching Prize. She will receive the honor during the annual MAACBA conference in Pittsburgh on Oct. 16.

Dr. Edmiston created a teaching concept titled, “Creating Competitive Advantage Through a Professional Online Presence.” The concept involves a ten-step process that leverages social media and empowers students to creatively market themselves to achieve a distinct advantage in a competitive career environment. Dr. Edmiston is integrating this concept in various courses that she has developed, to include Essentials of Selling and Internet Marketing, and has made the process available online at www.dawnedmiston.com.

Dr. Gary Quinlivan, dean of the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Education, and Government at Saint Vincent College, commented, “Dr. Edmiston is an incredible marketing professor, faculty adviser, academic scholar and role model. I admire her natural ability to connect with our students while infusing them with meaningful knowledge that will impact their future careers.” Dr. Edmiston was also the recipient of the 2011 Marketing Management Association Teaching Innovation Award.

Dr. Edmiston has served as a member of the Saint Vincent College faculty since 2005. She previously taught at Howard University, Johns Hopkins University, Trinity College, University of Maryland, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and West Virginia University. In addition to her teaching at Saint Vincent College, she serves as marketing consultant for the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children’s Media.
